Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the TomTom Start

monique -
Yes to both questions, we are thrilled with our Tom Tom.
-
-
is it easy to operate, as i,ve not had one before, and is it clear to understand the instructions as your driving, would it tell you which lane to get in to, i,m forever getting lost so its something i really need.
-

monique -
Very easy to operate. Just follow the steps and away you go. It has been so helpful taking us around places where we usually get lost! and telling us which lane to get into in plenty of time.

We hope to use this to go geocaching. In other words we need maps of footpathpaths as well as roads.
Does it locate latitude and longitude from where you are to where you wish to go?-

-
-

-
-

-
you could i had problems with signal in my town I returned mine after a day
-
Yes you can. No problems
-
yes no problem.
-
-
How does it fix into your car ie where do you stick it?
-
You get a windscreen bracket with it that attaches to the windscreen
-
-
Which Tom Tom would you recommend for me. I am new to driving in the UK, not a tech junky so like it simple and accessible?
-
i would recommend the tom tom start
-
-
Can I upgrade tomtom start to include north america.
-
dont no for sure but i would think you could up date it by putting the USB into your computer. if you need anymore help get back to me and i will try it on my laptop. good luck
-
-
I see that some other SatNav Models provide a live services free subscription for the first 2 or 3 years. Do you have to subscribe to the live services subscription? And how much does this service cost?
-
Im sorry but i dont know didnt have it for long enough my sat nav couldnt pick any sihnal in my town so returned it after 2 days of trying to find my own address.
sorry i wasnt any help
-
-
How do you upate the tomtom and is it free?
-
your car will update the tomtom but your computer will also do the same job but abit better and yes its free
-
-
does it recognise speed camara's
-
Yes it does
-
Yes and there is a feature to add any you spot and upload to the internet. When you plug your Sat Nav in it apparently automatically updates though I havent done that yet.
Cheers

Does the Tomtom start have a connection port for 3.5mm Headphones? I want to use the Tomtom while on my motorbike but obviously wont be able to hear the directions with my helmet on, hence my need to use headphones. I have looked on all websites and connot find out if it does or n0t. All i need to know is confirmation that you can indeed use headphones and if so do they plug straight into the tomtom? or do I need to buy an adaptor to use headphones?
Hoping you can help,
Thanks.-
Hi Stuart
i bought the tomtom for my boyfriend he isn't hear just now so i cant check for you but i have been on Amazon for you they do have headsets for the tomtom. so i think the answer to your question could be yes. get back to me if you need anymore advice
-
-
Does it include Channel Islands?
-
Just checked. Yes.
-
-
What accesroies does it come with, such as in car charger, home charger, case, brakcet etc
many thanks
-
yeah it comes with car charger.it plugs into the cigarette socket ect you can charge it also on your computer with the usb this you get with the tom tom. lets no if you need anymore help
-
It comes with the bracket to mount to your windscreen, car charger, usb lead to connect to your pc. No home charger or case.
-
Comes with car charger, bracket and usb lead. It doesn't come with a case or home charger. Just use the usb lead to charge it up from your pc
-
-
I just want a simple, easy to use sat nav. Is this the one for me?
-
Definitely. Thats what I wanted and its a straightforward sat nav with no frills that never seem to get used.
-
I am rubbish with technology and I have found this very easy to use - I honestly wouldn't be without it now!
-
-
Apart from adhering to the windscreen can you use an attachment to stick the TomTom to the dashboard or can you place inside the beanbag type holder?
-
not sure but have a go i dont drive bought this for my partner i will find out for you and get back to you if you want
-
Sorry but can't help with this one. Have only used the supplied windscreen sticker type mount. I would think though that there is possibly a way of attaching it to your dash. Try going on the tomtom website to see what's available, as you only get the windscreen mount with the sat nav when you buy it. Sorry can't help any more. Good Luck!!
-
-
I wondered if you can get an update for NSW, Australia so I could take it on holiday with me?
-
Im afraid I dont know. The device only has UK built in. Might be worth checking with Tom Tom direct, cant find the manual to check Im afraid.
Sorry I couldnt help.
Steve -
I am sorry, I don't know
-
i would think so try updating it with the usb on your computer. there you will find all the information you will need good luck
-
-
can you navigate to a street name not just postcodes?
Also does it have an option to navigate to recent destinations?
-
Hello , it does do both options I am well pleased with the tom tom
-
Yes you can navigate to sreet name as well as postcode providing obviously you put the town/city you want too, and you can navigate to recent destinations too.
-
Hello , it does do both options I am well pleased with the tom tom
-
-
If I put the house number will it take me to the house frontage? And does it tell you which side of road it ios on?
-
Pretty much depending on how big the area covered by the post code is. I dont think the map is detailed enough to show the side of the road but if the post code is different then it will.
-
I doubt it will show you which side of the road the house you are looking for is on, and it depends how big an area the postcode covers as to whether it will take you to the actual house frontage
-
i live in newcastle i was visiting my son who lives in choppington. i put his door number in post code ect it did take me to his house but dont think it can tell you what side of the road the house is on. when you get to the road or street your looking for it tells you that you have reached your destination
-
-
Does it have a Yoda voice already installed?
-
Not that I am aware of but pc you can download from
-
you can download free tomtom voices from the internet. just type in download free tomtom voices. should come up with yoda yoda just follow instructions. hope this helps
-
-
Can you input complete postcodes? The original Tom Tom Go would only take the first part of the postcode, which is virtually useless.
-
Yes.
Iit obviously gets you straight to the location with the full postcode.
You can put less in and it will get you as far as it can.
There are other options on finding key locations and landmarks etc. So several ways of getting to a place if you dont have full postcode and straight to it if you dont.
Rgds

-
Does it warn you if you exceed the speed limit for its current position
-
not sure about that. it tells you if you are getting near to speed cameras. also when you are approaching a bridge ect. so it should be able to tell you that i will ask my partner as i bought the tomtom for him he is a very good driver when i'm in the car.
-
It constantly shows the speed you should be doing and the speed you are doing. It also makes a litle warning noise. it also warns you about speed cameras.
-
-
can i add aditinal maps to this tom tom start and if yes can you tell me where can i download aditinal maps thanks
-
Hi,
you need to download Tom Tome Home onto your PC. You can then arrange to purchase different maps through this with your sat-nav linked to your PC . Similarly you will receive free up-grades to your exsisting map within the warranty period. Looked quite straight forward.
-
-
Need it for traveling round Spain can you download maps from your PC?
-
sorry but I have not tried to download any maps,
but the sat nav is great. -
yes sat nav is good for its value. I think you have to purchase map.
-
-
Is a case a desirable accessory. If so I found difficulty in finding the appropriate one on Tesco Direct
-
I don't have a case for my TomTom. I keep it in a bubble wrap bag when not in use.
-
No - I keep mine, along with the mount & the charger etc in a small coolbag !
