Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony Reader Touch PRS-600

  1. Hi,

Does it support cyrillic fonts (i.e. Russian language)?

    Thanks,
    Nat
    Natalie asked on
    1. I'm not sure but I would expect so.
      Phil replied on

    2. If its in a recognised format EPUB PDF EBOOK format it would,
      Shirley replied on

  2. Does this e-reader has any connectivity to internet, using wifi or 3G?
secondly, Is the screen size same as in amazon kindle 3G. because they state that 6inches diagonal screen, where Sony says this 177mm tall, i am little confused on that.
    Thanks
    Waseem asked on
    1. Sorry there is No 3G conectivity.
As regards the screen size it is 120mm x 90mm viewing area.
      Keith replied on

  3. I have a new computer uploaded all necc software and purchased some new E books. I did a sync with my Sony E reader PRS-600. However can not read the books on my e reader. I get a warning secured page. Has anybody seen this before and what do Ineed to do?

    Wadick asked on
    1. I've not experienced that. Have you got Adobe digital editions software - it's needed to allow you to read bought copyrighted books.
For different book formats, I use the excellent (and free) Calibre software that'll convert all to e-pub format.
      Tim replied on

  4. I have this eBook reader but am worried that it came with a factory defect. Whenever it comes on or you change the page, The screen flickers. That is to say it has a black background with white lettering before having the white background with black lettering. Is that normal ?

    chine asked on
    1. It is something I gave noticed but have not given it another thought
      Simon replied on

  5. I have been given a second hand Sony Reader. Can I run it off a the battery? If so, Where do I find it? Mine doesn't appear to operate unless plugged into a mains. HELP.....
    Ellie asked on
    1. It should have its own battery - either the readers battery or your charger is faulty. I only need to charge mine every 4/5 days
      Brian replied on

    2. yes, if look at bottom will see on left a yellow dc in 5.2v charging socket, on right is a usb socket you can use to download e-books onto reader. On the top left is a charge light next to the on/off slide switch, is red while charging and goes out when fully charged.

    3. If you google Sony Reader Touch PRS-600 manual, you can download the pdf manual free.
      cliff replied on

    4. I bought my charger from e-bay for about £10.00. or you can charge from the computer.
      Pam replied on

  6. Thanks Cliff and Brian. Great advice which I am now acting upon. I've downloaded the manual (why didn't I think of that.! Doh..!!) and now understand how to charge the thing.!

Can someone please help me again? I cannot seem to gain an answer from the manual to this one. It says that once I have charged up the reader (using the USB for 4 hours) I should then disconnect the USB and follow the on screen instructions (on my reader) to complete the initial set up. I've done all of that but cannot get my reader to give me any further instructions - it just reverts back to the home page. How do I now download the books I soooo want to read????
    Ellie asked on
    1. You can load books in various ways,
      1. By installing books already on a SD card or memory stick, and inserting these into the appropriate slots in the Reader. Switching the book on you should be able to select the book you require.
      2. Or by connecting your book to a computer via the USB lead.
When you connect the book to the computer it should load an initial programme onto your computer from which you tell it that you are using a Mac or Windows. Select the correct type and follow the on screen instructions (computer screen) and it will then down load a Reader Library (this will take some minutes) Once you have this library established, it is up to you to purchase your books over the internet or via Cd, etc, load them into the library on your computer, and the synchronise the library on the computer to that on the book(via the USB connection).

I would suggest that you do not try and put too many books on at any one time because although you can store a considerable number the more you store the harder it is to find the next book you want to read. There is an index but with more than say 20 books it get harder to select the on you want. Once you have read a book remove it from you computer library, ie store it somewhere separate from the synchronising section.

    Dewi asked on
    1. Only if you buy a sony charger appropriate to your reader
      Alison replied on

    2. No Must be from computer. I tried initially with a Sony charger but did not work.

      Alan replied on

    3. It is not worth the trouble trying different methods, keep to the family of aids that Sony advise. I am speaking from experience of spoiling my equipment by using different chargers.
      Bill replied on

  9. how do you trans books from book list to collections
    duncan asked on
    1. I keep all my e-books on a seperate hard drive, and when i want to transfer them to my book i have the book and hard drive open on my computer and just left click and drag into the e-reader.
Or the opposite way around to save them.
      ANNE replied on

    2. I'll assume you have already created a collection and named it (The "+" button on the bottom left of the reader proggie). Using the Reader Library program, go to the main library of the e-reader and find your book. Left-click the book, then drag it into the collection. It really is that simple to do.

I keep my e-books on an SD card, as well as backed up on my PC, so I always have my entire collection with me wherever I go.

  10. Anyone had a problem with the on/off switch failing?
If so, can one fix it oneself?
There are 2 very small screws on one side of the Reader, which may allow access.

    Malcolm asked on
    1. Hi Malcolm,

No never experienced a problem with the on/off switch so unfortunately can't help as to a fix.

  11. I have downloaded a book onto my pc but cannot transfer it to my reader!
Where it says in the manuel about e.book library and dragging to reader well i have nothing like that on my pc. Please help this very silly woman!
    Terry-Ann asked on
    1. There must be a left menu that lists the items. You can drag and drop a book on to that, then the book will appear in Books category. So now you can upload it to your reader.
      Doruk replied on

  12. What is the protected page that I am getting on my screen
    kijakazi asked on
    1. Home page

  13. I have a PRS600 which I have linked to my PC. I have purchased a Mac and would like to know if I will be able to link it to this now instead without encountering any problems?
    Lee asked on
    1. Not sure now. I upgraded my MAC OS last year to Lion and my PRS stopped communicating. Apparently the Reader wouldn't work in 64-bit mode. I was told by Sony Help to hold down 2 and 3 on starting the Mac, this will put it in 32 bit mode allow the eReader library to function. I do not know if they have fixed this yet.
      Peter replied on

    Margaret asked on
    1. go to the library then right click on the book you wish to delete. then choose the option "Delete"
