Robin, Poole Avid reader

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
First of all let me explain that the reader was a reconditioned item. However it is brilliant and I have spent many hours using it. The text is highly legible, in pretty well all lights. The size for the majority of books is perfect but it has a magnifier to make the text highly visible.
Bad points:
A very few ebooks are produced with a very small font which is not readable in the true page size, but the first level of magnification soon sorts this out.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony Reader Pocket PRS-300

  1. I haven't used my ereader for a while and recently i decided to purchase an e-book. During the download I had to register with adobe which I can't remember doing with the free books I got initially of Sony web site.
During the synchronization of the library with the e-reader I got the message that 'the reader is authorised to another user'. Now I don't know what's going on and how to fix it!

I'd bea grateful for any tips!
    Marika asked on
    1. hi i got that message as well, you need to uninstall your e-reader then install it again,
      Elizabeth replied on

  2. I have 100's of books that I've had for years, they are all in PDF, when I attach my reader to the PC there is no option to sync, I assumed it would be similar to my Iphone mp3 player but its not, has anyone got any suggestions as to why there is no sync option in the Library reader

    Jo asked on
    1. I dont use the supplied software for uploading and downloading books. I use a book library called calibre, google it, I find it will convert all formats to all other formats. It has enabled me to obtain e-books from sites that do not always have e-pub downloads.
      regards Peter
      Peter replied on

  3. I have got a new computer, my wife installed her reader with no problems but I cannot install mine.
Can more than one reader be installed on the same computer?
    Nick asked on
    1. im not sure as we both have computers but have you tried just using her reader software on the computer with your sony
      roger replied on

  4. is it worth the money
    wendy asked on
    1. In my case yes. I am an avid reader and the Sony reader means I can build a personal library. Using all main e-book suppliers.
The cheaper Kindle restricts you to using Amazon only.
      David replied on

    2. Absolutely. It makes its work great, good capacity, practical size, efficient battery.
      Adriana replied on

  5. Does the PRS-300 have a built in dictionary?
    sofie asked on
    1. No 'fraid not, it's a basic reader. You load books on to it and read them, that's it! Good at that though!
      Gordon replied on

  6. it was given a reader but thats all how do i use it charged to computer but nothing happening
    linda asked on
    1. Hi, You will need to download the free software which is a reader library and Adobe digital editions. Once you plug the e-reader into your computer, it should detect it automatically and ask if you want the downloads. From these you can organise which books you want on the reader at any given time and use the software to download from places like WHSmiths and Waterstones. Whilst charging, the screen on the e-reader should show a no entry sign meaning you can't use it whilst it is charging. Hope that was some help but if not, please come back to me.
      Nicola replied on

    2. Yes to use this e reader you will need the installing software. With it you can download 100s of free e books. Also you can download free e books from www.free-ebooks.com. You will need to also download Adobe as e reader takes pdf files. Amazon kindle ebooks do not work on this e reader.
      tricia replied on

  7. how do i put books actually on to my e reader
    jack asked on
    1. You can only download books from the computer but first you must make your choice hope this answers your question......enjoy
      Jacqui replied on

  8. I downloaded the twilight series of books but can no longer access them either on my reader or in library. Can you help.
    Christine asked on
    1. Hi, unfortunately I have also had a lot of trouble with my reader which I am VERY annoyed about. It only happened after I had about 10 books on it and then wouldn't let me open any of them, just said access denied.
I have looked on a couple of forums and it seems to be a product fault..but if you remove all of your books from your reader, go back to your account where you bought the book from e.g Waterstones, download it again from there and just have the one book on at a time it should work.
At the time I wrote the review I was really pleased with this product but if I could write the review again it would be a bit different !
Hope this helps, I am going to try to contact Sony and get my money back.

  9. I have had my e reader PRS-300 since June 2010. Have had problems recently when attempting to recharge. Also there seems to be a problem with memory retention. Any one else had these problems? Can you give me some pointers?
    Marie asked on
    1. mine has qlways been hard to charge using usb. Power pac works best for me.
Mine came with less memory than stated but never rerention problems, even when flat.
      John replied on

  10. MY PRS300 E/READER SOFTWARE AS BEEN WIPED OFF MY COMPUTER AND I HAVE NO E/READER SIGN ON MY COMPUTER COULD ANYONE TELL ME HOW I GET THE SOFTWARE BACK ON MY COMPUTER

    THANKS,
    PETER asked on
    1. Just go on to the sony site don't worry I?e done it on three different computers. They give you the instructions just follow and if I can do it you can too.
      Fionnuala replied on

  11. how do I return to the beginning of a story on my e reader
    Brian asked on
    1. With the current page open, type in "1" using the side buttons. The screen should dim and the page number should show up in the middle of the screen. Then press the OK button, in the centre of the navigation ring, below the screen.
      Alan replied on

  12. Is there any upgrades on the PRS300 . Had mine since 2010 and very happy with it
    Yvonne asked on
    1. Not that i am aware of, you would need to buy the newer model PRE600 onwards I think.
      Claire replied on

  13. My PRS-300 will no longer take a charge. The screen is frozen saying Reader... Opening Book... is there anything that I can do? It hadn't been used for a while and the battery ran down.
    Jan asked on
    1. You need to reset it find the little reset hole and put a pin in it until you feel the little button push in then switch it of and back on again and it should be ok then
      Deborah replied on

    2. As above
      david replied on

    3. I agree with comment above. It does seem like the screen has frozen if you have a reasonably large library loaded. Best to go away and have a large breakfast and extra coffee whilst it's reloading.
If all else fails, make sure the charger is a) rated high enough to actually charge the reader, b) if you've registered you reader with Sony, ask them, and of course don't forget the reset button.
