- Good points:
- Rather complex to install.
- Bad points:
- I've had four similar SONY HDR-recorders and two of them have broken in a similar way, i.e. when I try to burn a DVD it hangs and I have had to wait four weeks to have it repaired the last time. No good.

Does exactly what you want. 1080P up-scaling is great, better image on HDTV in SP than a live transmission.
Menu's easy to work out and the series link is a fantastic feature, even if Channel 5 can't differentiate between the main transmission and repeats!!
Image very stable, blank screen mid-recording is very very rare (but we do have a high-gain arial on a 12' mast as well) - Bad points:
-
Shame you can't record HD back down the HDMI cable from the new Barvia Freeview HD TV's.
Only 1 decoder so can't record 2 clashing programmes.
When dubbing to DVD in a different quality it records in 4:3 not 16:9 and does it real time so takes ages, rather than post-processing and then high-speed dubbing.

Only does most of what it says on the box.
I think it is appalling that Sony choose as a partner (GuidePlus) a company that ceases its service before analogue services are all switched to digital.
Personally, I will not trust Sony in future.

Can I record from the Sky +HD box to the Sony HDD recorder? How easy is it to set this up? Can it be set up via Scart leads?
Cheers John-
Hi, John
Yes you can and I do it regularly. You set the programmes you want to record on the Sky box to 'Copy' and start it playing. There are only two caveats -
1. You need to identify which input to select on the Sony - Line 1 or Line2. Some Sky boxes work differently to others. As there is no HDMI socket on the Sony, you will need to use Scart leads.
2. The Sony will only record a certain legth of time as a single programme, before it starts recording as a second programme. This can create an unwanted break in the middle of something important, so you will need to check the manual (I can't find mine at the moment, or I would have checked it for you).
Hope it all works.

I have a programe in the HRD drive , i want to copy into DVD,but this message is coming Title can't be dubbed at high speed in video mode
How to change-
Never had this message, I'm afraid. Have you chosen the correct way to make the dubbing? So sorry for not being able to help you more.

-
can cvbs signals be recorded on this machine via scart or other sockets
-
Robert,
I'm sorry but I don't know what cvbs is. If you could enlighten me, I will try to help. -
Robert,
Apparently it is not as good as RGB or S-Video.
-
-
HI CVBS is the normally phono connections yellew red white on the front panel of the recorders ,,in some cases this can be in the rear and / or scart .. i use this on my present dvd for a security camera 'but find that a greater hard drive would be better , hence my quiery, Robert
-
Robert,
The machine has inputs for both S-video and three phono plugs on the front, as Line 2 input. If you go to the Sony support page http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/RDR-HXD995 you can actually download a manual which should give you all the information which you require. -
Robert,
Hope the advice Jeffrey has given you will help you.
-
-
What editing can you do on a recorded programme, does it do A-B erase, chapter edit and split title?
-
Paul,
You can divide titles, and divide a title into chapters. You then delete chapters as required. -
Yes, you can do all these.
