Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony RDR-DC205
-
can I plug an external hard drive into the usb socket and record programs on it ?
-
Not so far as I'm aware.
There doesn't appear to be any means by which recording can take place other than to the internal hard disk.
-

CAN YOU RECORD OF SKY+
-
Don't know since I don't have a Sky+ box. However, since it's possible to record from several sources (I record from a VCR), as long as that source is not protected, I can't see why not.
-
-
can you record directly on to a disc or do you have to record to the hard drive then dub it onto a disc?
-
Sony RDR-DC205 is an excellent recorder. You have to record to the hard drive then dub it onto a disc. The quality of the recording is superb, well done Sony. Sony RDR-DC205 is user friendly as well.
-
Not possible to record direct to DVD but first to hard disk, thence dub to DVD. The only problem that dubbing can only be done in real time. Otherwise fine.

where i purchase this model in trichy
-
SORRY I don't understand the question
-
I bought mine on ebay, pre-owned. We have now had it for around 6 months and it has worked well, the only thing that I would say is that it is slow to react to commands compared with other models.
-
I don't understand the question
-
-
how can i link my sky digibox so i can get a tv signal to the sony rdr
-
Can't tell you - have never used a Sky digibox. Surely Sky tech support can tell you.
-
-
I'd like to know how to link it up to my Sky+ box, too - has anyone managed this?
-
nor me - only an ordinary Sky box. There is a page on the website that shows how to link up external boxes. I also had to put the tv onto AV1 to be able to see tv when the recorder was switched on

-
CAN YOU PLAY BLU RAY DISCS ON IT ????
-
I'm sorry but I don't know, as I don't have any.
-
No - DVD and CD only.
-
-
Where can I download/obtain an instruction manual for the RDR-DC 205
-
I don't know as we had a manual with our dvd.
-
Try the Sony website.

Will this machine play dvd's recorded on other recorders/computers, and will it play pre-recorded (commercial) dvd discs?
Many thanks, Tony-
Yes. In my experience it will play all commercial DVDs (dependent upon region) and those created on other DVD recorders and PCs. I have done the latter many times with few problems. However beware PC software that produces non-standard file formats.
-
It will play whatever region you are in pre-recorded dvds.
Some of my early DVDs in +rewrite won't play - but that could just be the age!
Some files that have been sent to me from outside theUK and burnt won't play on anything so I just convert them to AVI

has anyone had a problem with this recorder not recording some programmes set on series recording.also picture freezing and skipping on playback through hdmi connection? i have had my hdmi cable checked, it is of good quality and was o.k. this is doing my head in !!!!
help would be appreciated thanks-
Sorry No I've not had this problem.
-
Haven't used it for series recording, but I am having problems with it skipping, freezing & pixalating during playback. Also having problems with dubbing to DVD discs. I was told by Sony that this was probably due to the switchover to digital due to take place. This has now happened & still not working. Sony gave me an update disc to try, but it was up to date. I am taking my recorder back to Sony next week to be repaired.

Hi
My RDR-DC205 was on timer recording but stopped halfway through the prog.Error message E01 came up.Checked HDD and in the formetting section it stated that the Druve was full which was incorrect as there was 160+GB left.Switched off and on restarting next day back it came appearing to work OK apart form Skipping badly on the lest part recording,it does tend to pix a lot.Does any one know if reformatting drive would clear this??-
I don't actually know but I would assume that reformatting should clear any problems. Hope this helps.
-
Not exactly that problem but I do have skipping issues on recordings which reformatting the hard disk failed to resolve. I would suggest contacting Sony support but their responses to my queries on this matter have not been impressive, i.e. their final advice was "re-set to factory settings" after I told them their initial instruction on accessing a particular menu option was not available on my machine.
My impression is that they don't try very hard!

-
How do I record one programme while watching another both on digital
-
If you mean simultaneous Play and Record then go to page 57 of your owners manual. If, however, you want to watch a TV program while recording then go to page 30.

Score 8.0/10After a while I met problems with (a) recorder failing to start for a pre-set recording; (b) missing sections of a second or so in the recording. The recorder was returned to the supplier who diagnosed firmware that was not up-to-date; it appeared that this was a not uncommon failing since they had seen the problem before. I don't think most users would expect to have to update internal software - or know how.
