- Good points:
- Blue background lighting to selection buttons makes identification easy - certainly a lot easier than a previous model (with red background lighting) I'd purchased for another car.
- Bad points:
- Difficulty in identifying/locating albums on USB flash drive when using USB input. (Though this may be the fault of the flash drive or me).

Excellent quality and easy to use. The built in Bluetooth with the built in microphone makes connection to a mobile phone a breeze, none of those over the ear or sun visor receivers needed. The USB socket also means that a memory stick can be plugged in a MP3's played through the unit. An ipod plugged in there is automatically recognised and when in use is charging the battery.
I love the 'Zappin' feature which gives a short preview of CD/ipod music tracks, when you get to the track you want, press a button and it plays - Bad points:
- I've not found any.

- Good points:
- Good sound, bluetooth works well
- Bad points:
- Too many steps to switch from cd to radio, operating buttons very small and crammed into a small area - i have to look at them to change things. A real pain that it does not switch on and off with the ignition - i probably wouldn't have bought it if i had realised this. Otherwise what you would expect from Sony in terms of performance

- Good points:
- Value is top notch, to have all the features this unit offers for such a low price is what attracted me in the first place. The icing on the cake is "They all work as well as anyone could expect them to" From hands free to the quality of mp4a files off USB, the only downside is I now realise my speakers don't do this unit justice!
- Bad points:
-
The mention off it takes a FIVE SECOND press of the Blue-tooth button to start the search for new devices could be clearer, but once I got over the initial impatience to get up n running and read the instructions a bit more carefully I had no more problems in the setup!
So bad points! Non really, Have already recommended friends! But a quick listen and play, does this best.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony MEX-BT3800U

i was just wondering if anyone culd tell me why my cd player has stopped playing cds?
-
It could a few different things. If it still plays music, then it could be the cd laser is dirty (Buy a cleaner etc) or try other cds.
Or something is broken (I hardly use the CD due to ipod so I don't know if this is common).
Is it still within a year old/warranty? take it back to shop?
Repost when you have sorted it too. Good luck. -
Does the radio/other functions still work?

Hi I cannot seem to get the Bluetooth to work on my unit I have held down the bluetooth button to turn the Bluetooth on I have searched it with an iPhone 3GS iPod touch 2g and an old nokia 6230 and none of them find the stereo. Am I missing a step?
-
Hi, I had the same problem, are you making sure that you're holding the Bluetooth button for at least FIVE seconds. The Bluetooth icon should now be flashing on the display and you should be in pairing mode, the phones should now see XPLOD pair to it using the code supplied. Good luck
-
I have also got an iphone3gs.Press the Bluetooth button on radio to bring up Bluetooth icon.Make sure Bluetooth is turned on on iPhone and discoverable, preserve Bluetooth button on stereo and hold it in until EXPLOD Appears on phone .Press connect and hold down until connected.Once connected does not need doing again. You can then make hand free calls through your stereo speakers or play music from your iPhone. You can pair unto 5 different things this way.

My Motorola Razor works fine. when the bluetooth on the head unit is on I leave it on all the while and my phone auto connects if the BT is turned on the phone. Some times it takes a while to link but then I just search for xplod appears then it connects

I recently had a problem with lights so checked all fuses by removing them and replacing, also checked one of the relays. But since then my stereo won't work, its like no power to it. I have a vauxhall corsa 51 reg. Is it something I can fix or would I need to go to Vauxhall and get the coding thing done even though it is my own stereo.
-
I would consult an auto electrician, you do not need any coding for this unit
-
I don't understand why the lights would affect the audio equipment? I would check that you replaced the fuses in the right fuse holders, it's easy to put the fuse in an adjacent empty fuse holder. Also check the relays are correctly seated. If you have access to a multimeter (or a 12v bulb in a holder with a couple of wires), check that you have a permanent positive then with the ignition on, a switched positive at the stereo connector. As far as I am aware, there is no security code on this stereo.
You could also check the back of the stereo because I think there is a fuse there which could have blown. If you still have no joy, I'd see an auto electrician - he'd probably be cheaper than the Vauxhall dealer !

I can pair my Samsung SGH-F480 with my head unit and the phone icon appears on the head unit display, however, when the ignition is turned off and the radio goes off when it is next turned on, I have to confirm reconnection on my phone, does anyone know why it doesn't connect automatically? It works perfectly with my TomTom Sat Nav, it seems that either the Sony Head Unit or the Samsung loses memory of the pairing and I suspect it is the Head Unit because the same phone works every time with the Sat Nav.
-
I'm sorry I can't answer your query mine is fine and I connect through bluetooth
-
same here. my motorola razor connects automaticly when the phone is in range and when you first turn on the head unit. do you loose the radio presets, it might be that when you turn off the ignition you loose all power to the head unit
-
Yes, I bought Sony MEX-BT3800U, it works fine with my iphone 3G and 4S.. it connects automatically when I power on

Hi. I have been trying to get this unit to work with my iPhone 4s. I've paired it ok and works with streaming music but I can't hear any sound gone through when I try call or receive a call. Any ideas? It worked ok only yesterday today I can't get any sound.
Any help would be great-
Hi,
I had lots of problems with this player it would work in my car some days with steering wheel controls and then on other days it would not work.
I had it replaced with a Kenwood, the same problems so that is going to be removed by the installer. I will try again with another installer this time with an Alpine unit. Hope I get better luck if not will give it all a miss.
Sorry to be so negative but the whole thing has left me wondering if some units really are compatible with all cars.
Just a thought try to use sony parts/connectors as I am not convinced the generic ones are all that reliable. -
What I do:
Pair with Bluetooth for calls etc.
For long journeys and low battery on the phone:
Pair with Bluetooth, then wack on the USB cable.
Since the apple update, I've never had a problem.
Calls and music are fine.
Never had a call work via USB alone. -
My installer would not connect to steering controls.Phone was paired under Xplod ,I used to steam my music through a 32GB memory stick plugged into the USB socket, this way i could have over 5000 song available.Set the controls to USB music will play and when phone rings music will stop.Press the centre of control button and callers voice will come though speakers. When call ends music will resume
