- Good points:
- Nice looking and very slimline. Terrific features for the price although that comes with acres of instructions which you will need to keep referring back to . Great web wifi feature and 3d is fun but you do need to buy DVD player for 3d films unless it's in a bundle deal like we bought
- Bad points:
- Had to buy 3 d glasses for 4 people and unless you shop around could easily spend another 120 pounds unless your buy them fro China for about half that . Other than this it's a great buy but you need to cost out all the extras first!

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony KDL-46HX823
-
how do I get subtitles?
-
The button to the right of the 0 button is the sub-titles select button. It depends on what input you are on and if the broadcaster is providing sub-titles. Also if you sellect the i-MANUAL button then go to WATCHING TV then TEXT the instructions say you can control sub-titles there. Hope this helps.

thinking about buying sony kdl46hx823 as they have come down in price .cant find any reviews in what tv & hi fi so asking any one out there to give me some info . really concerned about rasheeds review but others gave it a high score , please advise .....
-
I am quite satisfied with the Sony in all respects apart from the original price and having to buy 3d glasses and webcam as extras. Otherwise it is a very good television.
If I was you I would have a good look at the Samsung 46" D8000, my son bought the 40" model and I think it is equal to the Sony and maybe a better picture.

-

any 1 having trouble with it not being able to read an external hard drive to play movies etc?
-
I haven't used a hard drive but I have used both a bluray and bose system and they are both fine. Check what cables you are using? It may have to be HDMI.
-
-
How easY is it to connect to the Internet? Has anyone watched YouTube and how's the quality? Thanks
-
Very easy to connect to Internet. We chose wireless option which was intuitive to set up and a very strong signal. Quality on you tube is remarkable considering the underlying quality of some of the content. BBC Iplayer is excellent too.
-
-
sorry to be a pain ive brought this tv and now waiting for delivery but some 1 told me the power plug ia attached so you cant put a longer lead on it unless you cut a cable tie and void the warrenty is this true? again sorry for the questions.
-
Don't think this is true.
-
-
I see this model has a web broweser, is it possible to watch say ITV Player (I know it as a BBC app but not for ITV)
-
My guess is no - unless they have a preinstalled app or widget. I tried to access RTE player but you needed to install adobe flash player and you couldn't do that.
-
-
can the power lead be removed to put a longer power lead in for mounting on the wall or how long is the power cable it comes with?
-
The TV comes with the power lead attached to the it and is approx 1.5 metres long.
-
-
SO DO YOU RECOMEND TO BUY THIS TV ?
-
Absolutely. It is a beautiful looking TV with a stunning picture. Upscaled SD TV is good as well as HD
-
Definitely, It is a good looking TV with great sound and a brilliant picture.
-
I would absolutely recommend this Sony model. I am very impressed with the quality and design and have found it easy to use and very flexible. I decided to buy this model in order to update to HD and have since upgraded our Sky box to provide HD facilities.
-
-
Does the TV come with the silver stand? Also does the stand have speakers built into it?
-
The stand is a plain black plate and there are no speakers built in.
-
The stand is black and the speakers are not built into stand.
-
-
is this tv the newest of the kdl 46 hx models and is there a new one due out to superseed this
-
Was newest at time - last autumn. But product cycle is very quick. You should check with dealers if another model is due out soon.
-
My reply would be the same as Owen's, the tv was listed on Sony's web site as NEW in September last year.
-
-
Is it possible to download paper instructions for this TV? Can't find anything on the Sony website so maybe not.
-
It's all on the TV - don't know if there is a paper version.

-

-
-
how do I get full web browsing - I can only get the SONY website
-
You & me both, no idea, sorry
-
Then you are not choosing the correct icon in the Bravia menu. Look in the I- manual as it covers this topic in a quite simple manner.
-
Press the HOME button that gets you into the menu, press the direction arrow until you get to INTERNET BROWSER, select this option. Then press the option button, this will bring up a menu on the right hand side of your screen, scroll down to URL ENTRY and select, this will bring a dialogue box up that will have an address in the box. Select the CLEAR box and type in you web address then press the select button. This will get you to where you want to go.

-
Like the look of this tv - toss up between this and a Samsung 46" - I wasn't planning on buying a sound bar - how good are the built in speakers? Seem to be twice as powerful as the Samsung equivalent
-
you seem to have answered the question your self?
not has good as hooking up to a home hi-fi / home cinema system - but more than cope -
The sound is OK but not its best feature. Recommend listening in the shop to both tv's if that is possible. Everything else is great.
-
Sound is fine - I generally don't have it up that loud but for a good sic-fi I'll turn it up and it's fine.

-
hi there, i just bought this tv and my 3d is not working. ive replaced the glasses and still cant get it. i have sky 3d but girl in shop told me i need a 3d hdmi cable too. would this be the case because i didnt think it would. dnt know what im doing wrong. Help!! lol thanx
-
You dont need a 3D HDMI cable...!!! No such thing. Make sure you have changed the mode on your TV set through the options so the TV broadcasts in 3D and switch on your 3D glasses.
I hope that helps. -
Don't have 3D myself but I think the girl in the shop is wrong and you should be able to get it ok. Are you selecting the Sky 3d channel.?
-
The girl in the shop is wrong. I just use a normal hdmi cable. Check the broadcast is in 3d, in the case of Sky there will be two images side by side, if using a DVD not sure there but it should be a 3d player you use. Once you see the image press 3d on the tv remote, turn it to 3 d on, scroll to side by side, or whatever picture you see, select then press return to clear the options from the screen. If you are not seeing a picture it may not be the tv at fault but the source.
-
-
if this product has built in wi fi and a wireless router in my home do i still need to conect an internet dongle to my dv?
-
I have a wireless router in my house and connect the TV to it without using any other equipment, but you must go through the set up and input the necessary codes for your router. Don't know what dv means?
-
-
the TV seams to have a webcam but I can't use skype. How can I start using it? Do I need to have a separate camera and microphone?
-
The TV is ready for video and voice calls with Skype but you will need to add a voice control camera and microphone to make Skype calls.
Hope that helps -
You need to connect a Camera and microphone to use Skype
-
-
Is this TV LED or LCD and which is better and what is the difference between the two. Reading up on it some places say LED edges, sorry but I really don't understand. Thank you
-
It is somewhat confusing but it is both. The screen on which the picture can be seen is made from a type of technology called Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). However for it to work properly it needs a separate light source to shine on it from behind to activate the LCD.
Most LCD screens are being lit with a flourescent or similar light source. The newer technology is an LCD screen which is back lit a light source called light Emitting Diodes (LED).
The LED backlight can be further organised into an array or grid of many LED's wich are then secured directly behind the sreen (often called Direct LED).
The other option is where the LED's are arranged arround the back edges of the screen(often called Edge LED or Dyamic Edge LED).
Any of the two types of LED backlighting will vastly reduce the power consumption of your TV . However the Direct LED is much more expensive than the Edge LED to manufacture and this is reflected in the price.
In terms of picture quality you need to judge for yourself but I was more than happy with the quality of picture I received from Edge LED set I reviewed. I hope this proves helpul.

Hi there, can you tell my if you can record programs on this TV, and if so how does it work? Also can you pause and rewind TV. Have ordered this TV and am waiting for delivery.
-
I have not done it but you can plug an external hard-drive into it and the TV acts like a freeview PVR. Sorry but don't know if you can pause/rewind - I doubt if you can but would not like to say one way or another.
I have Sky+ so the recording functionalitry you ask about is of no interest to me. I do know that the TV encrypts the recording you'd make on the HD so you can't transfer recordings to a PC... you can only watch your recordings on your own TV.

-
I have a sony 3d laptop. It upscales from 2D to 3D brilliantly. Can this do the same ie dvd or bluray to 3Rd. Also can it upscale normal tv 2D to 3D. Thanks for your help. Matt.
-
no the upscaling of sony is not that brilliant and also the picture quality is not that perfect
-
-
