Good points:
Nice looking and very slimline. Terrific features for the price although that comes with acres of instructions which you will need to keep referring back to . Great web wifi feature and 3d is fun but you do need to buy DVD player for 3d films unless it's in a bundle deal like we bought
Bad points:
Had to buy 3 d glasses for 4 people and unless you shop around could easily spend another 120 pounds unless your buy them fro China for about half that . Other than this it's a great buy but you need to cost out all the extras first!

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony KDL-46HX823

  1. how do I get subtitles?
    john asked on
    1. The button to the right of the 0 button is the sub-titles select button. It depends on what input you are on and if the broadcaster is providing sub-titles. Also if you sellect the i-MANUAL button then go to WATCHING TV then TEXT the instructions say you can control sub-titles there. Hope this helps.

  17. hi there, i just bought this tv and my 3d is not working. ive replaced the glasses and still cant get it. i have sky 3d but girl in shop told me i need a 3d hdmi cable too. would this be the case because i didnt think it would. dnt know what im doing wrong. Help!! lol thanx
    susan asked on
    1. You dont need a 3D HDMI cable...!!! No such thing. Make sure you have changed the mode on your TV set through the options so the TV broadcasts in 3D and switch on your 3D glasses.

      I hope that helps.
      Junior replied on

    2. Don't have 3D myself but I think the girl in the shop is wrong and you should be able to get it ok. Are you selecting the Sky 3d channel.?
      Harry replied on

    3. The girl in the shop is wrong. I just use a normal hdmi cable. Check the broadcast is in 3d, in the case of Sky there will be two images side by side, if using a DVD not sure there but it should be a 3d player you use. Once you see the image press 3d on the tv remote, turn it to 3 d on, scroll to side by side, or whatever picture you see, select then press return to clear the options from the screen. If you are not seeing a picture it may not be the tv at fault but the source.
      Jeff replied on

  18. if this product has built in wi fi and a wireless router in my home do i still need to conect an internet dongle to my dv?
    susan asked on
    1. I have a wireless router in my house and connect the TV to it without using any other equipment, but you must go through the set up and input the necessary codes for your router. Don't know what dv means?
      David replied on

  19. the TV seams to have a webcam but I can't use skype. How can I start using it? Do I need to have a separate camera and microphone?
    Dorota asked on
    1. The TV is ready for video and voice calls with Skype but you will need to add a voice control camera and microphone to make Skype calls.
      Hope that helps
      Nigel replied on

    2. You need to connect a Camera and microphone to use Skype
      Mark replied on

  20. Is this TV LED or LCD and which is better and what is the difference between the two. Reading up on it some places say LED edges, sorry but I really don't understand. Thank you
    Pauline asked on
    1. It is somewhat confusing but it is both. The screen on which the picture can be seen is made from a type of technology called Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). However for it to work properly it needs a separate light source to shine on it from behind to activate the LCD.

Most LCD screens are being lit with a flourescent or similar light source. The newer technology is an LCD screen which is back lit a light source called light Emitting Diodes (LED).

The LED backlight can be further organised into an array or grid of many LED's wich are then secured directly behind the sreen (often called Direct LED).
The other option is where the LED's are arranged arround the back edges of the screen(often called Edge LED or Dyamic Edge LED).

Any of the two types of LED backlighting will vastly reduce the power consumption of your TV . However the Direct LED is much more expensive than the Edge LED to manufacture and this is reflected in the price.
In terms of picture quality you need to judge for yourself but I was more than happy with the quality of picture I received from Edge LED set I reviewed. I hope this proves helpul.

  21. Hi there, can you tell my if you can record programs on this TV, and if so how does it work? Also can you pause and rewind TV. Have ordered this TV and am waiting for delivery.
    Leeann asked on
    1. I have not done it but you can plug an external hard-drive into it and the TV acts like a freeview PVR. Sorry but don't know if you can pause/rewind - I doubt if you can but would not like to say one way or another.
I have Sky+ so the recording functionalitry you ask about is of no interest to me. I do know that the TV encrypts the recording you'd make on the HD so you can't transfer recordings to a PC... you can only watch your recordings on your own TV.

  22. I have a sony 3d laptop. It upscales from 2D to 3D brilliantly. Can this do the same ie dvd or bluray to 3Rd. Also can it upscale normal tv 2D to 3D. Thanks for your help. Matt.
    matt asked on
    1. no the upscaling of sony is not that brilliant and also the picture quality is not that perfect
