can you put ear phones in it, and can you get radio 5 live on it , dont know too much about them but wanted to buy my partner one .

Yes you can get 5Live, no problem. Can attach a set of headphones to the port on the curved side of the radio. I'm only getting sound from the left headphone right now but I think the headphones are faulty!

Length of battery life

Not sure yet - it's still on it's first set of batteries and I bought it on 15th May. It's only used for approx. 5-10 mins a day at the moment. Hope this helps!

What type of adapter can I use for this radio.

I've no idea. I just use the batteries. It says on the back DC: 4.5V if this helps. I don't need to know this for my usage so can't be much help I'm afraid - sorry.
