Good points:
You can pay a lot more for a home-theatre system, and overall this has a pretty good sound for the money. It's 600 watts, so you could certainly annoy the neighbours with it. DVD's in 5.1 sound awesome, though you may need to tweak the individual speaker volumes depending on personal taste.
It's reasonably simple to use, and you can get the sound from the TV going through it. You connect your TV via the 2-way scart socket, so the sound from the telly can go through all the speakers with anything transmitted in Dolby surround. The 5.1 effect is actually "simulated" using the Dolby pro-logic system, but it sounds great, hard to tell any difference between DVD's using "real" 5.1 audio.
Not the best on the market, but good quality sound nevertheless. I'd be surprised if there was anything much better at this price.
Bad points:
The main problem I have with this system is that there are no inputs, so you can't plug in any external sound source apart from the TV. It's a real shame about this as I can't get all my other gadgets going through it. I bought it mainly for 5.1 DVD's though, and you can plug in a USB stick so it's not a huge problem.
I would have liked some control over EQ, but there is none. For audiophiles like myself this is a real shortfall but for films and TV the EQ is more or less fine. Live music is another matter, and it could really do with a basic graphic EQ, especially to boost the top end. You can attenuate each speaker individually, but only by a maximum of 6db. In an average living room the sound is really bass-heavy, so my sub-woofer is permanently set at -6db, as quiet as I can get it, which just about suffices.
