No more camera shake

Wobbly pictures caused by unsteady hands are a common problem when youre shooting without a tripod. Optical SteadyShot Active Mode Image stabilisation cuts the effects of camera shake for clear, steady photos and video clips, even if youre walking along while shooting.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55

  1. what is the battery life on this camera
    Theresa asked on
    1. for vidio around 90mins ,for stills number on screen
      marsden replied on

    2. I managed a whole two weeks on one charge ( 50 pics). I do not use the camera for movies. If on holiday always remember the charger and universal plug adaptor and charge overnight
      Philip replied on

  2. Can you download to PC and print out panoramic sweep photos or must they be printed professionally and at what cost? The DSC-H55 appears on paper to be a good bye, any pit falls to watch out for?
    Gwyn asked on
    1. Downloading to a PC is exactly the same as with any other photographs. I use one of two printers, either HP Photosmart D5460 or HP Deskjet F4580 and I usually print out panoramic sweep photos on A4 size paper approximately 250mm x 100mm with two photographs per sheet. I am very pleased with the camera and have had no problems to date, and in fact I now use my single lens reflex only for safari holidays where I need the 400mm telephoto lens.

How can i find the original H55 by watching the product?

    Roney asked on

  7. Been looking at the DSC H55 which looks really good. Q- Can you zoom when using movie mode ? What size card would be needed for say half hour shooting in movie mode ?
    George asked on
    1. Yep it is an amazing value for its price as well , and you can zoom in when using movie mode. Sorry dont know the answer to the last q
      Sanya replied on

  8. Thanks to Sanya for the fast reply to my Q. I have another Q. Can you downloasd the video from the camera to your PC using software, say something like Studio 8.
    George asked on
    1. hmm, Not sure.
I use a card reader to read the Sony Pro Duo Memory card, and just 'drag and drop' all files to my PC or Laptop, whether they are jpegs or mpegs. You can then view your files with whatever software you have. Photos I use Google Picasa, and for mpegs I just use Windows Media Viewer, the Quicktime, Real, CyberDVD all seem to work.

  9. Is there a background defocus function?
    Scott asked on
    1. Not specifically. If you go into Menu and then Focus, you can select Centre AF which will focus on the sub ject in the centre of the frame. If you use the AF lock function, you can play around and move the subject where you want it.
You can also defocus the background by choosing Spot AF for very small subjects.
You cannot use the AF range finder with digital zoom.

  10. Is there a written instruction book on the DSC-H55, I have just been given the above camera and have only the basic instruction book. Just a quick point one of the questions above "were is the camera made" mine is a very recent one,and it says "Made in Japan" ? thanks Alan

  15. i am just confusing which camera i should buy.

at the beginning i was thinking to buy a cheap camera but the Sony H55 changed my mind.....do u recommend it?

however, i still have some alternatives:
    Sony w360, w570, w380

i mean i don like to spend more money on nothing, so if the H55 does not have more advantages over those cameras, then i wont buy it

plz feel free to suggest any cameras
    Ali asked on
    1. I considered the other cameras as well, but in the end chose the H55. I recommend it very highly as it is easy to use. My wife uses it as well and this is the first camera that she has been totally happy with. There are also advanced features if you wish to use them, but the results on automatic are consistently excellent.

  16. Is the casing metal and also does it have anti shake
    Karen asked on
    1. it is ---and it has anti shake
      marsden replied on

    2. Yes as Marsden post it's metal.the only "possible" weak point could be the plastic battery cover. There are two modes of steady shot: a standard & active, which gives a more powerful Steady Shot, also is a Anti Blink mode when shooting images, the camera takes two shots and displays or saves the image with no blink, shear genius

  17. Hi, I am confuse between W580 and H55. Please help me. What camera is better? Just between W580 & H55. Price is not impotant.
    Elenaz asked on
    1. I'm not familiar with the W580 so can't really coment. 'Best' depends on what you want from your camera. I am very happy with the H55 but made
I made my choice on just what I wanted from the camera. No camera is perfect. If I can give any advice it would be to list just what you yourself want your camera to do, then look at the specs and see which matches up the closest. With ANY Sony you can't go too far wrong.
Sorry I can't be more help.
      Barry replied on

    2. Hi,
Personally I would prefer H55 mainly because of its 10x zoom. 14 MP & 16 MP difference wont make much difference unless you are going to print the photos in large size. Instead we can feel considerable difference in 5x zoom and 10x zoom. As long as there is no considerable price difference, you can go for H55. Hope you will have a nice experience with your new Sony camera.
      Deepu replied on

  18. Can this camera use SDHC memory cards or does it only use the Sony memory stick?
    Dave asked on
    1. Hi Dave,
It takes SDHC cards. Get the biggest you can though because 14MP photos take up a lot of space! Even setting it on 10MP takes photos around 3.5MB each. I bought a Samsung 16GB SDHC Class 6 Extreme Speed from Amazon for under £30 and it's excellent
      Cheers
      Simon
      Simon replied on

    2. It works nicely with Sony Memory stick but wa can also use other brand SDHC memory cards but why not the best one like Sony? I strongly believe cheaper comes with the cheap quality.
