- Had troubles with the first player. Needed a repair or exchange but it was 30 miles to nearest repair centre. Fortunately the seller, after hearing my concern with the distance agreed to do an exchange even though it was past the time they normally allow.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony BDP-S470
-
can you play divx discs on the player or does it have a usb port that will play divx
-
It can play divx xvid and mkv from disk. I have not tried the usb port for playback as I use a sumvision media player for this. This unit is a European region bluray, dvd multi region player from Richer sounds.

Hi, how do i set up my s470 so i can control it with my iphone? thanks.
-
Hi Miles, I set up my Adroid phone as a remote. I guess it would be the same to set up an IPhone. I downloaded the Sony Media Remote App. For it to work the S470 was connected to my broadband router via Ethernet. My phone also had to be connected to the router via Wi-Fi. I was then able to register the S470 as a device. I also tried to register my PS3 but that didnt work. Hope this helps - Matt
-
Well i did say i would be glad to help, but sorry on this one i havent tried to set up my iPhone with my s470... Why dont u just use the remote ?.

Does this model play MKV files?
-
Yes. I've been able to play some files in an mkv format. I think it has something to do with the setting used in the conversion process though, something I don't know a great deal about I'm afraid.

-
can this player stream live football from internet web sites
-
Hi Jeff,
I've never tried streaming live football from the web. On the player's on-screen menu you have icons for various web services (e.g. BBC iPlayer) so you can stream any programmes that are available through those services but not sure about live football.

i dont seem to be able to play 3d dvds ive uploaded and it says all up to date
-
hi chris , did u mean downloaded dvds, if so it depends on what file type the film is, eg divx, xvid, avi, mp4, if they r any of these they will all play, as this machine doesnt play every file type and their are lots, also alsomay be a silly question but av u turned on ur 3d on ur tv.

i have sony 3d tv,can i play 3d movies stored on my hard disc via usb port or i must have a blu ray disc.thanks
-
Mine is a dx724 and yes you can according to the specifications but I have a media computer I created that has a dual tuner card so I record,d/l 3d films as well and play back on tv. The BR player is not needed but may well also be another way of playback but I have not tried it,
-
sorry I never tried that. My Sony TV is also 3D and I can get some good 3D from the BRAVIA Internet Video, but never tried to download anything through my PC. Do you mean pirate movies?
I think the BDP can play back video from the USB connector, but if its pirate content I expect it does not work. -
I do not have 3D facility. As far as I can see, you must play them on disc. The user manual does not say whether it will play 3D movies from hard drives
I can say that it is a very good player, particularly when streaming online such as BBC iPlayer and LOVEFILM.
Blu-ray and DVD performance is exceptional and I can highly recommend it for those formats.
Hope this helps

Have just purchased and need to know how to get the internet content - I have a wireless dongle but it does not seem to be recognised.
Do I need a special kind?? Hope you can help.-
Yes, I believe that you will need the Sony WiFi dongle - not sure of part No. Mine wires to the router so do have that problem. It seems a bit of a con as these tend to be a bit pricey - I had intended to get the webcam for Skype but this is in the region of £70!!!
