Score 10.0/10
Good points:
Having used SLR cameras since the 1960s, I have found this camera one of the easiest to use due to it's ergonomic shape and weight balance. As cameras got smaller and more powerful I had progressed to smaller cameras, but having had two strokes I returned to a larger camera with a good grip and an anti-shake option, or in this case the Super Steady Shot option.

No reliance on poorly lit creens to become invisible in sunlight as this camera relies on the view finder for aiming and focus, making great savings on battery life.
Bad points:
None that I have found, not even minor dislikes on the build or any features.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 (Body Only)

  1. Hi i have the above camera, i am an ASTRO-PHOTOGRAPHER is it possible to take photo's of the night sky with it, and how should i set it up, i have tried on the night setting but with little success, as i find it somewhat awkward without using the conventional cable release,

    KEVIN asked on
    1. Hi, I have used this camera for a few months now and have an 800 mm mirror lens and a 2x converter and a 3x converter. I also used a 650 mm to 1300 mm telephoto lens. I have found the 800 mm with a 2x converter is able to get good lunar shots while hand held. However the 650 to 1300 mm is very dificult to focus accurately without a good quality tripod, due to it's length. Once it is firm, focused (using manual settings) and ready to shoot I use the cabled electronic shutter release, available on eBay or from many digital photographic suppliers.

Actually setting up the camera for astro photography will (in my experience) be subject to experience on assessing the amount of light being transmitted (or reflected from) the subject. This may need the taking of a lot of images to get the one you are satisfied with.

Sorry if this is not very helpful to you, but I have not actually tried astro-photography with a powerful telescope, so hoe someone who has experience will help you more.

      Regards

      Eddie

    2. Hi Kevin. If you set your camera to BULB this will keep the shutter open long enough to snap the midnight sky. The setting should be in your manual. I myself don't take photos like that so I would be interested in the out come.
