- Good points:
- I've had two of these before over about thirty years, only thing I think is different is the clock time not on all the time. I don't have a normal type of oven because I haven't got the room for one, but with these being so big, they do the job really well. Thank you.
- Bad points:
- Can't think of any...

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Sharp R959SLMA
-
Can you roast a joint on combination? I have had a Panasonic for years but they have now removed this from their new micro/combis and I'm wondering about changing brand. thank you.
-
Yes you can roast a joint on combo you can also express cook joints from frozen
eg press roast beef /lamb
enter weight press start auto minute once to start cooking
dual cooking combo
beef 15 min per 450 gms
pork 16 mins " " "
poultry 10 mins" " "
hope this helps you to make an informed decision. -
You can set the combo in many different manual combinations, the cooking charts within the operating manual provide guidance on settings and cooking time dependent upon type of meat and weight.
-
-
as the r959 slma have shalves
-
No, but it comes with a round wire stand that could be used as a shelf.
I bought a earlier model and it lasted 11 years so this is a replacement. Well worth the money.
-
-
is the oven fan assisted.
-
no
-
-
I have to replace my m/wave Model R953SLM, but it has shelves.
Can I use my Oven shelves in model R959SLMA.-
Yes if the shelves are 14.5" wide.
-
dont use shelving so cannot give you a accurate answer, but it does come with wire racking that can be used as shelving.
-
why would you want to use old shelves in a new microwave that is already supplied with shelves.
-
-
why all the confusion about shelves? Pauline says it has shelves whereas Brenda
says it hasn't. Are they talking about different model?-
It most certainly has 2 shelves, plus the usual round free-standing, different height duo.
-
Oh yes it has two shelves. Mainly used if using the oven mode. Like baking cakes. Where you don't want rotating mixture. You still get rotating bottom bit. Oven is great. Baked a cake- and come out well. Its a good buy.
-
-
is this true combination cooking
-
I dont use the combination but the instruction book shows how to use it as a combination and it has all the racking and shelves to do so.
I am very pleased with my microwave.
-
-
What takes the place of the fan assissted pven
-
It is a convection oven & microwave.
There are fans to keep the case cool, but no internal fans moving the air. -
you're right, but I don't find it a problem. I just use the conventional oven part on normal temps (not reducing for fan) It cooks all my cakes just like a large oven, although, if big, I sometimes turn half way, to prevent sides burning. Very pleased with the whole thing.
-
The hot air blows thru the back of the oven. I do tend to drop the temp one notch from conventional temps as with other convection ovens. This is the second Sharp model of this size I have owned. I was so satisfied with the first one, which I owned for 12 years. And don't forget Nigel, it is also has a high wattage Grill too!
-
-
How can I change the temperature of the microwave? When I try to heat anything in it, it just comes out cold.
-
press once comes up 250-press again etc to lower temp
microwave is same..start as above...every time you open door ..start button must be pressed.
hope that this helps
-
Punch in the time first using the 10 minute, 1 minute, 10 second buttons and then the power required by pressing the Microwave power button until you get the percentage you require. Then press Start.
-
-
can you set the oven to a high temp then lower it during cooking
-
Yes. I turn it off and straightaway turn it back on with the new parameters. However, I think one can simply reset the required temperature by pushing the appropriate buttons! ;-)
-
-
Hi bought one of these today and roasted a chicken the back at the fan is covered in burnt juice how do you remove this tried lemons no good any ideas ?
Thanks Keith-
Sorry Keith I have no idea - the book suggest that you warm lemons and water then wipe down. When I have roasted a chicken I do it in pyrex casserole dish with lid on breast down so that it soaks all the juices/flavour into the breast to keep moist.
-
sorry cannot help. Have never used my microwave to roast chicken.
-
-
Have had combination microwaves for many years. I'd like to know when you cook in CONVECTION mode only does the grill stay on or go off? Recently tried a Panasonice which had the grill on for pre heating but then the grill also stayed on CONSTANTLY when cooking in convection mode and thus burned everything. Returned to retailler for refund and was advised must be faulty, have read on other reviews that this is not the case?.. Thanks.
-
This has not been an issue. Just cooking bread and had a look- grill definitely not on. It is great, but be sureyouhave enough clearance above as this was not on the details until we unpacked the instruction book! It need 13cm clear above
-
there is no grill in the sharp combination microwave
-
-
There seem to be two models - the SLM and the SLMA. Do they both have a grill? If not, which one has the grill and is this the one on sale at the moment?
-
the one I bought is a R959SLM with a top grill, I dont know about a SLMA or if they do another microwave with the same large capacity as mine that also has a grill. hope this helps
-
-
Can you program it e.g.:wait for 20 minutes then cook for 6 minutes, wait for one minute and cook for 10 minutes on a different power setting? My current microwave does this and I use it all the time. Also, can you stick in a bowl of frozen peas and just press "cook" and it will stop when the peas are cooked? Again, my current microwave used to do this but that feature has broken which is why I am here!
-
I think you can get three cooking cycles rather than 4, so you would end up with cook - wait - cook.
Amongst the 'express defrost' options there are no peas, but perhaps mince might work for you? There is not a huge suite of automatic microwave only cook cycles.
I would add that this machine is bought by people who want a small convection oven/grill - its capable of microwaving too but its real power lies in combined microwave/oven/grill.
It works for me - I save a few kilowatts by not using my main oven for small loads - but it looks like you might need a microwave only product theat has lots of programs?

Hi Diana,
I'm afraid the A to your first Q about the Sharp's program-ability is that it is not able to do complex settings such as that. As Nigel has stated, the strength of this model is it's convection/grill/micro power. I bake bread, cook main meals and simply re-heat coffee with mine.
I have now used a Sharp for about 12 years. This is my second unit. The first wore out after about 11 years.
It does what I need and it's reliable. -
agree with johns reply but might add it is a big oven its also my second sharp i got rid of the old onewhich was still working after 20 years or more we had a new kitchen so it was updated have had no problems with this one
-
-
about to replace my Sharp R-957M. What is the difference between R959SLMA and R959 SLM?
-
hi pamela ,
no difference at all, both know as the same number hope this answers your question -
I've had three now 1st was great, 2nd nothing but probs, 3rd 2yrs old seems ok (touch wood) all very similar to close to bother. its the biggest I've found without going comercial
-
it's the same machine my 1st lasted over 8 years gave it to a relative , still going strong. just bought a new one from dixons great machine.
-
-
Could you tell me if there is a timer I can use to set the conventional oven to come on?
-
sorry no timer.
-
Sorry. as above no timer
-
no timer no clock
