- Good points:
- Very good for distance photography as demonstrated on a recent safari.
- Bad points:
-
Very short battery life and battery can only be re-charged in the camera so a spare battery doesn't really solve the problem.
Very poor handbook therefore one needs to download about 100 pages!

- Good points:
- Excellent lens, viewing screen and all round performance. A lot of camera for the money. Probably too good a camera for my current level of digital photographic ability!
- Bad points:
- Not really a bad point but camera turned out to be larger than I had expected. It's only just "pocket sized". Check dimensions before buying!

Digital Cameras Buyers' GuideManufacturer's Description
compact high zoom
See how the unbelievably compact WB500 hides a 24mm ultra wide 10x optical zoom lens in its thin design. This amazingly versatile lens is perfect for shooting indoors, landscapes and group portraits. The powerful 10x optical zoom brings the action to you so there’s no need to move around. While the ultra wide angle lens enables you to get everything you want in the shot.
dual image stabilisation
Blurry images can be caused by many factors, such as hand shaking, zooming or insufficient light. Dual Image Stabilisation eliminates the blur caused by camera shake and delivers clear, crisp images every time-even under difficult lighting situations. Integrating the best lens shifting mechanisms of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) with the sophisticated algorithms of Digital Image Stabilisation (DIS), Dual Image Stabilisation-another superior SAMSUNG innovation-corrects even the tiniest of shakes.
high definition movie recording
With the ability to record HD movies with your SAMSUNG camera, you can enjoy HD-quality movies of 720p resolution at 30ftps. The Latest H.264 compression format enables more than doubled efficiency compared to the previous format which surpasses the capabilities of a digital camcorder. So say goodbye to your video camera and transform your living room into a personal movie theatre!
Smart Album
With a 4GB SD card, your camera can store up to 2000 7-megabyte photos-that’s a lot to keep track of! But with the Smart Album function sorting and organising your photos is easy: it allows you to sort your photos by time, content, colour, or theme. Smart Album lets you get straight to the best or sort through the rest.
photo style selector
Taking a simple snapshot, framing an artful pose, or doing something different have never been easier. You can select from a wide variety of optimized advanced photo effects and know exactly what you’re getting with a suite of preview images to show you the results before you take your shot.
high sensitivity ISO 3200
With a true ISO 3200 setting, your SAMSUNG camera can effectively minimise noise for crystal clear images. The super speed sensitive ISO 3200 feature give you the ability to take amazingly detailed photos-even under low light conditions. Plus, ISO 3200 lets you take perfectly focused photos of fast-moving images, like during a sporting event.
the world’s first 24mm ultra wide, optical 10x zoom
Whether you’re indoors or out, snapping a landscape or friends around a table, the amazing 24mm ultra wide angle lens gives you a wider shooting range from a shorter distance and more flexibility. Now you have the ability to capture images of beautiful landscapes and entire buildings from a very short distance-not something you can do with a standard 35mm. The 24mm ultra wide angle lens and the 10x optical zoom is a perfect marriage of advanced versatility with the convenience of a stylish, compact camera.
10.2 Megapixels
High picture quality is obtained by employing an 10.2 mega pixel 1/2.33" high resolution CCD sensor. Clear picture quality can be achieved even for images larger than A2. A robust mounted image processor allows for rich gradation, fast and high quality picture processing.
perfect portrait system
With our unique Perfect Portrait system, imperfect photos are a thing of the past. For example, the Beauty Shot feature is like having your own make-up artist-right in your camera. It automatically identifies imperfections such as blemishes and dark circles on the face, and retouches them so that faces appear brighter and smooth. And with different level settings, you can control the amount of retouching that takes place-it’s that simple! Plus, the ultra-intelligent Smile and Blink detection technologies will never let you ruin another picture-perfect moment again by detecting when the subjects’ eyes are open and their smiles are at their peak.
frame guide
Never be left out of the picture again
Imagine be able to compose a photo even before it’s even shot. The world’s first Frame Guide feature on the WB500 has turned that into reality. The Frame Guide feature allows you easily set up the composition of the shot so it can be used as a guide for the photographer. Simply hand off the camera and you’ll never have to be missing from another photo. Now your vacation pictures will come out exactly the way you envisioned them.
