Good points:
Very pleased with this tv, took less than 10 mins to tune in. The picture is great, so is the sound.
Bad points:
Only 1 scart, but makes up for it with the HDMI. I replaced my very old dvd player to one that uses HDMI, so it solved the problem cheaply and easily. Other than that I don't think there are any bad points. :)

TV Buyers Guide

Manufacturer's Description

600Hz subfield Motion
Ever notice how with plasma screens, motions can get a little jerky? Unless you happen to be looking at one of Samsung’s new plasma TVs. Every frame is seamlessly smooth because we put 10 full subfields into each frame. That’s 600Hz. So contours are crisper, scrolling text sharper and the juddering issue is finally put to rest.

3 HDMI
All it takes is one cable to connect your TV to your other audio and video sources. Our HDMI slot allows you to import all kinds of content without compression including pictures and videos from your digital camcorders and multimedia PCs. Now enjoying it all on a wide HD screen couldn’t be easier.

Mega Dynamic Contrast (PDP)
Getting a true cinematic experience used to mean going to the cinema. But with Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio true cinematic clarity comes to plasmas. Every frame is saturated with dense, rich colour. Blacks have more depth and the whites are unbelievably pristine. The only thing missing is a large head blocking your view.

Every angle is right with Clear Image Panel.
Amazing picture quality cant exist with blurring on your screen. Thats why we developed Clear Image Panel for our new plasma TVs. It uses a film filter instead of conventional glass to eliminate layered images and produce ones that are ultra-clear and blur-free from almost every angle.

Wide Colour Enhancer
Capturing nature is the goal of an artist. We’ve achieved it as well with our Wide Colour Enhancer. Our unique 3D colour stretching technology saturates each pixel until it achieves the true colour and luminescence intended by nature. So every colour on the RGB spectrum is brought to life. It is a work of art.

Response Time 0.0001ms
It’s hard to beat the speed of light. That’s how fast our plasma screens respond to each new image. 0.001ms is all it takes for each pixel to re-generate clear, crisp, robust colours. That’s why there’s no blur or ghosting in the picture. And there’s less strain on your eyes. You can’t beat that.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Samsung PS42C450

  1. I've got a chance of buying this at £399 from Tescows - they're also offering a Sony LCD (display £90 off) 40BX400 40". I'm tempted to go for the Samsung but am a little concerned that the plasma colour and contrast (black blacks is important to me) won't be as good. Any thoughts?
    Brwendan asked on
    1. i am more than satisfied with my plasma 42 INCH
      jeannie replied on

  2. I can't find the separate installation guide for the
    stand; This was called a bit difficult what an explanation would be welcome;
The screws for the stand don't fit.

    William asked on
    1. hi i did not use the stand ,i have an oak unit for my samsung to sit on.
      alan replied on

  3. hi just bought this tv and wondered if anyone had the code for sky remote (old remote). thanks
    maureen asked on
    1. Hi there, i assume you want to work the TV with the sky remote, i have no idea of the code, i managed to get my dvd recorder remote to work the tv using code in dvd book, i suggest ask sky or samsung, sorry Fred
      Fred replied on

    2. Hi Maureen, I don't have sky but a quick search on google found this - 0600 or 060 - if that doesn't work try this link and search for samsung (there's quite a lot of them) http://www.letsautomate.com/pdf/SkyRemoteTVCodes.pdf
      Derek replied on

  4. will i be able to wall mount it? not very up on tvs. my last telly was a 42" viesa panasonic plasma which i paid £1,200 for and it only lasted 3 years before all lines appeared on it so i am abit reluctant to spend that much again. Back to the question though "would it wall mount" as i am limited for space.
    JOANNE asked on
    1. hi Joanne, I got a hanger that was not right for it so I just returned it and put it on a stand instead but am certain, I could have found a more convinient hanger if I wasnt in so much of a hurry. Plus, it cost only £399 and not £1,200! i have enjoyed it so much.
      titi replied on

  5. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER IT WILL WALL MOUNT
    JOANNE asked on
    1. yes it will Joanne.....
      brian replied on

  6. i am really tempted to buy a Plasma TV i wanted your opinion on the long terms quality of this particular set. 1st question is how long have you had this TV. 2nd is have you have any pixel problems or burn-in pictures over time?
    Lucas asked on
    1. 2 Months. No problems of any kind. For the price and performance it is hard to beat. Did a picture comparison of LCD / LED and plasma. Plasma gives a slightly softer feel that i liked and handle detail at speed better. I found it hard to spot the difference between this model and the full HD so could not justify the additional cost. Great buy. Now avialiable from around £360 lowest price for the 42". !!!!
      Richard replied on

    2. Bought this tv for my daughter's bedroom wall - the picture is brilliant and have had no problems - she loves it !
      Lorraine replied on

  7. does it switch on or off. or is it on standby only?
    chris asked on
    1. Hi, it goes into standby only.
      A verified owner replied on

    2. Hi, it goes into stanby only, other wise a very good tv. We love it is very clear viewing.
      JOSE replied on

    3. standby only. great tv at a great price.
      Joanne replied on

  8. Hi. Is this good value for money and would you recommend this TV?

    Mumbles asked on
    1. Yes to both - but you may have problems find one as I believe its now end of line.

      Anthony replied on

    2. Totally good value. I would. Highly recommend it to anyone. Once the TV has settled in the picture is amazing
      Alexandra replied on

    3. I agree with both Anthony and Alexandra. We bought ours via the Tesco Website. I would indeed recommend the TV.

  14. can i watch films from my hard drive using samsung usb port?
    Juliana asked on
    1. I haven't used this feature but in the manual it is written "connect a USB device containing photo, music and or movie files to the USB port on the back or side panel of the TV" "media play only suport USB mass storage class (MSC) devices, MSC is mass storage class bulk only transport device. Examples of MSC are thumb drives, flash card readers and USB HDD (USB HUB are not supported). Devices should be connected directly to the TV's USB port."

I hope this will be useful and answers your question - like I said i've not tried to use the USB so can only tell you what is written in the manual. :)
