  31. I am stuck at the moment between this phone, the Nexus S, the Galaxy S I and or Nokia N8.
I have an gmail account, and usually talk to my boyfriend a lot on Gtalk. I know the Nokia doesn't have this, but in terms of usage, which phone is better?! Cost is an issue for me right now, but I am liking the look of the Nexus however, but really am leaning towards the Galaxy ace. HELP!!!! Thanks Natalie
    Natalie asked on
    1. The ace has full use of gmail. I us it myself. My partner has the galaxy s answer the ace is much better looking and more impact but also has better streaming. Don't know what the nexus is like but would definitely chose the ace over the Nokia.

    Mike asked on
    1. You can put your contacts into groups and set different ringtones for each group(you can use songs you have saved on your phone). Not too sure how you could go about doing it for individual contacts because it doesnt seem to give you that option unless you put the contact in a group of their own? Hope that helps!

  37. Hi i'm am baout to get the Galaxy Ace, but read a few reviews on Carphone Warehouse and near enough everyone mentioned the phone switching itself off or going into sleep mode. Most people seem to be on their second or third replacemnt handset, is this the case with anyone here?
    Michelle asked on
    1. Hi. Had mine around two months now and not had this problem at aall.
      Mark replied on

    2. Hi. This has happened to me 3 times. I took the battery out then put it back in again and it works straight away. It does go into sleep mode a lot but it's easy to turn it back on so not a problem.
      Louise replied on

  38. I really like the Samsung Galaxy range (especially the S2, but its a bit too expensive!). Based on the following daily useage, would the Ace's battery last for the day (ie about 7am to 9pm):
30 min or so of calls
    10 texts
About 15 min browsing (mainly checking Emails)
    Checking and entering the diary.
For comparison, my phone at present is the Nokia 6700 Classic and I can go for 4 days easily between charges (I know the Ace won't be as good).
    Many thanks!
    Helen asked on
    1. It would definately last for that period of time. My battery lasts all day and i probably treble your call & browsing times
      Philip replied on

    2. Now i have got used to the phone, it definately lasts for that period of time. and i have just changed from a nokia 6700 classic.
      Paul replied on

    3. Yes It would
I use mine from 5-6pm daily to 6am with no problem
      Roy replied on

      Lee replied on

  41. Two parts:

And does it display text messages as a thread?
    Thanks!
    Lee asked on
    1. yes and yes mate hope that helps
      simon replied on

  42. how do i load music onto the phone from my laptop?
    kevin asked on
    1. The only way I could do it was to download kies from Samsung website then transfer play lists. Alternatively, load memory card, insert into handset - et voila!
      Mags replied on

    2. i put my memory card into the memory card slot on laptop (for some reason it dont register it when i attach via usb cable).... then just transfer it like you would transfer anything else

      Paul replied on

  46. im thinking about getting the galaxy ace, is it true that you have to charge it 2-3 times aday?
    anthony asked on
    1. I suppose it depends how many features you have switched on and how much you use it but for normal use like mine it lasts for days at a time! I have had one occasion where i left the wireless, bluetooth etc on overnight and it was dead in the morning but apart from that i've not had an issue with battery life! Hope that helps!
      Jonathan replied on

    2. Really not as bad as people say, once a day after heavy use bluetooth, wifi emails surfing etc, normally it is fine.

      Matthew replied on

  47. Considering purchasing the Galaxy Ace but don't like querty keypad. Is there a choice?
    Jules asked on
    1. Hi, yes you can change it to a 3x4 keypad (like on a non-touchscreen phone, abc, def etc).
      Kelly replied on

  48. how much memeory does this phone have??
    yvonne asked on
    1. Hi it had an 8 GB card with it and i think it has 8GB internal memory
      robert replied on

  49. Hi does the Samsung Ace have a good calendar/diary for use to avoid me keeping a manual diary also/ If yes is it easy to use and access, also can you set it up on the internet and transfer to phone. If not which phone can that you would recommend? Thanks
    Pauline
    Pauline asked on
    1. Hi Pauline,

Firstly - yes it does have a calender which is easily accessible, so you would not need a manual diary, however, I do not know anything about setting it up on the internet! Sorry.
      Kelly replied on

  50. Hi i am thinking about purchasing the galaxy ace.Is it worth it and what features does it have and what is bad about the phone?
    nic asked on
    1. I love my phone. You can down load loads of free apps for it. Camera is brill. The only thing that i think is bad is wen you use navigation app on the phone it uses the battery very quick. Other than that i think its brill and easy to use.
      shelly replied on

    2. As long as you install a app killer to shut down background apps and remember to keep WIFI, GPS and bluetooth off when they're not needed you can get 2 days out of the battery, so that sorts out the only 'problem' some owners complain about. I love this phone as the apps let you do EVERYTHING! I read books on Kindle, track my runs with MiCoach, access Gmail, do my internet banking, use it as sat nav in my car and as an MP3 player (and many more!). I'd be lost without it!!!
      Helen replied on

  51. is the battery life that bad? how long would it last (hours)?
    jessica asked on
    1. hard to say, i charge mine every day, the battery really goes down quick if you play games and music
      simon replied on

  52. how do i forward text messages on my galaxy ace

    Lore asked on
    1. Keep your finger on the message you won't to forward and the options will come up
      Pat replied on

  53. on pay as you go if you are using the wifi or 3gs does it use your credit up?
    ryan asked on
    1. not sure im on pay monthly sorry
      alan replied on

  54. I just got this phone and noticed that the 3G icon doesnt show on the page with the wi-fi. Is this packet data? and should it be on or off, or do I just turn it on when there is no wifi available?
    Lorna asked on
    1. I would only turn it on when I couldn't get wifi, it can be temperamental and takes a while to register once I have pressed the icon...but it does eventually come on
      Natalie replied on

  55. What is the internet connection and speed like?
    sal asked on

  56. can anyone tell me the size of the keys on the keypad when you are texting
    Stuart asked on
    1. it gives you 3 different options the full keyboard which with the phone right way up can be a bit tricky but is managable, you can also turn the phone on its size so the full keyboard is larger this is then easy to use after you get used to where the keys are. The other option is like the old phones the 3x4 pad and this is very easy to use and large.
i have no problems at all with it love the phone.

    shannon asked on
    1. I use it for a few diff things on the web. Looking at facebook uses more energy than just looking at news. If you keep your data connection on all day it does use up the battery. It should last till you charge it up at nite.

    Rebekah asked on
    1. Hi I can only talk about my phone - Yes the battery life was very poor, but the main problem is the phone keeps shutting down for no reason. I did a search on the web and appears this is a problem that others have experienced. My suggestion would be - buy HTC, I wouldn't recommend this phone. Good Luck Dave

    2. Hi Rebekah

I find the battery last a couple of days if I am only using it to make the odd call and send a few texts. Once I start using the internet etc it only lasts a day....still better than my partners iphone though. Overall I am really pleased with it, far better than the htc I had previously. Texting etc is easy and making/receiving calls is a sintch! I did struggle to update my contacts when I first got it and had to add most manually but that was probably just me LOL.

  65. There are a lot of comments about the battery life of this phone dating back months. Am looking at maybe buy this and wanted to know if Samsung had made any updates to the problems. Am a silver surfer so don't really make full use of all these phones can do mainly texting, calls (because its cheaper than my land line) and a bit of internet. Has anyone used the Kindle app on this phone. If you dont have a Kindle get one they are fab.
    Jeanette asked on
    1. I found the battery life on mine to be fine once I turned off the 'Network notification' option in the wireless settings. Another tip is to use a battery saver app (I use 'Green Power') which really makes a difference to battery life.

I typically get 3 day's usage from a single charge on mine which is more than enough for me. You can also buy better batteries with a third more charge for around £12 but thus far I haven't found the need to do so.

    margaret asked on
    1. If you want a smart phone you need a monthly contract as it will be much cheaper. My contract is with T Mobile. I pay £13 a month (I also received a £40 cash back through Quidco) for this I get 600 minutes, 500 texts and unlimited download time. Be prepared to charge a smart phone every day and buy an in car charger if you use the very good built in sat nav.
      james replied on

    2. I was previously with O2 on pay as you go.
      For £15 a month i got unlimited internet,free txts.
So in theory, pay as you go is an option for a smart phone.
The only reason i went with a monthly contract is because Quidco offered this phone free for £10.43 a month..600 mins talk, unlimited txt and unlimited internet with £40 cash back. Only down side is i don't get a great signal strenth at my place of work with T-mobile. (Have to go out side of builing to ensure i dont get cut off) If this phone was on O2 it would be PERVECT. But overall i'm very happy with this smartphone.

    1. yeah should be fine. i found that if you are on the internet alot it will run down quick. textin and calls are ok and would last all day. you will need to charge it fully every night still

  115. what does 3g mean?
    pheobe asked on
    1. Its mobile internet but much faster than old mobile internet. If you want to use your existing SIM card in in 3g phone check to see that the card says 3g somewhere on it - my '3g' was actually hidden in the long serial number on the card. If your SIM isn't 3g ready just tell your neteork, they should be happy to send you one free of charge and move your old number to it.

    1. the samsung galaxy ace is an android phone as is the san francisco mobile phone, in my opinion the san francisco is only 99 pounds to buy where the samsung is more expensive, for your son the san francisco is fine if he is not on a contract but if he is going on a contract the samsung galaxy ace is ok.

    Peter asked on
    1. I was looking through the marketplace yesterday to download apps, I didnt see one on there, if you go to the website you should be able to find out, if not, if you contact your provider they should be able to tell you. I have got googlemail and email apps already loaded on my phone. I use hotmail and my mail goes into my email box with no problems. It is a fabulous phone and I would highly recommend it. hope this is helpful to you

I just ordered the mini and it'll only do portrait which make the keys on the qwerty keyboard so small you can't press the key you want. If it would only turn around landscape I'm sure it'd be fine!

when you buy a phone, any phone? do you have to charge it up fully on its first charge or use it till the battery runs fully out, then charge it, because on the instruction manual on every phone, it says to put it on charge for its first use. But then people say that if you charge it up while it still has some battery life on it then it slowly breaks the battery? if anyone understands what I mean :$
    Ashleigh asked on
    1. Hi, I know its confusing. I charged it up fully when it arrived and haven't had any trouble with the phone. I do tend to let the battery run almost down before I fully charge it again and this seems to work. CJ

    sarah asked on
    1. I shouldn't make a difference, since I mainly use Aol account. If you go to Menu and press the internet button, and just type in the BT url. Just make sure the WiFi is ON from the drop down menu. Bt has it's own wi-fi network all over UK. Hope this helps.
      amit replied on

    2. I assume you have a router with WiFi for your BT connection. If that is working fine, then your wireless network is connected to the internet. You then need to connect your phone wirelessly to your router - on the phone - Settings, Wireless and networks, WiFi settings to connect and enter your password

    1. The camera quality is more than adequate, though if you're looking for an excellent camera phone then this is probably not for you. It's 5 Mega pixels and works as such - more than good enough for the quick and convenient snap, but not high enough quality to use in more formal publications/work.

    1. The Samsung Galaxy Ace has better wifi and significantly better battery life. The Orange Monte Carlo has a slightly newer OS. As far as I'm aware, there are no differences between the black and white Galaxy Ace models except for the colour. It really depends what you're looking for in a phone. 165. Thinking of buying the Galaxy Ace in a couple of months, as my current phone is 2 years old and starting to lag behind in the smartphone market. I also have an iPod Touch 4th Gen, and am wondering if the Ace is similar to the iPod Touch (i.e. easy to use? Applications? Layout? etc.). I'm looking for a phone around the £150 mark, would the Ace be one of the best in this price range?
    Thanks! x
    Nat asked on
    1. My experience with the iTouch range is limited due to personally not owning a product but I have used them naturally. When it's set up I would be confident in saying that I feel that its just as easy to use as the asthetic is similar.

Layout of your homescreen(s) is entirely customisable to yourself as well so that makes it easy on a personal level.

The menu if you choose to use it (but can mostly be avoided actually if you set up homescreen(s) well and dependent on your usage of the phone) is listed alphabetically which can actually be a bit bizarre to get your head around, especially when you add new apps and things move around a bit.

Apps themselves differ for it is an Android phone, but as the biggest rival to Mac, alot of apps are the same and there are equivalents.

      Hope that helps x

    lulukuni asked on
    1. Battery life is no worse than any other phone, despite many other comments. It's quite simple - if you use the phone a lot then the battery is used and then needs charging regularly.
The phone is easy to navigate, simple to use and has lots of "todays" features already installed (depending on your network of course as to what you get but getting additional apps is quick and easy). I wouldn't say it's the best phone in the world. I personally prefer the Galaxy Mini but it's an alright phone.

    3. For my use, it's fine. I don't use apps, had a short play with a few on the phone and noticed the battery started draining quicker than just using it as a phone. I've left it on several days on stand-by and even after 4 days I still had half battery power. I think the people who complain about the battery power are people who just can't put down an electronic device and need to be entertained by it on a constant basis. Some of the things, like tweaking options for your text messages, do take a little bit of fiddling about, but it's not overly complicated, it's just figuring out which options are where. One downside is that while old obile phones usually came with a couple of basic games, ie. tetris, you have to go online and download the games you want. It gives you about 2 minutes of play time and then stops. For me, going online means paying extra so I don't.

    2. I enjoy it more than a blackberry. I used to have a blackberry for work, good for email but otherwise hated the damn thing. When it comes to typing on the Samsung, you really have to aim for the key on the virtual keypad so although I have small fingers, I do have to do lots of backing up and re-typing to get the required key and not the one next to it. However would take it over a blackberry anyday.

Having read some of the reviews I am particularly concerned about the battery life and how often you need to re-charge it with the Galaxy Ace. My own phone which is 5 years old has to be charged up most days, so there would be no advantage with any phone if you need to keep charging it everyday with average use. Thanks.

    2. Hiike most phones nowadays batterylife depends on how you use it. If you keep wifi and sat nav off until you really need them it will last longer although to use it for video recording will use it up quickly, ie charge every day.

    please can u help
    thanks!
    courtney asked on
    1. Hi, mine came with a black back and a white back - i used the black textured one, the white one makes it look a bit like an iphone. I don't remember how fast is strated up/switched off, but from new it did randomly switch off when using the gps and google maps, and a couple of other instances. Speed was poor compared to the other high end phones I used to own a galaxy s, but broke it and didn't want to pay that price again. Infact the problem really is that all aspects of the phone are made for a price, low res display, sound and speed. Which im my opinion are not upto the job of the requirements of the latest android os. I've moved over now to windows phone 7 and not looked back, its the best on the block in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Also can u download a photo you take as a wallpaper for the screen such as a picture of a baby we have a grandchild and would want to put one on.
On my nokia 6700 when a text message comes in it blinks on the pad until you get the message does this phone do that.
Sorry for all the questions but never had a touchphone before and not sure about the galaxy that is why i am asking questions.

    1. yes! you can zoom by touching the screen to make the pics larger and yes for wallpaper too I change mine all the time with family pics. Also you there is a good flash and I like the quality of the camera. When a text message arrives, a little envelope shows on the front or it will bleep if you enable it to or have the text settings on silent, you will still have an envelope alert. It will take a day or two to get used to it but I never used a touch phone before this one and I love it now. you can download easy too. Hope this helps... ask away:-)

  221. Does this phone freeze? Is it good for bacic texting, music and gaming? I have read lots of reviews and a lot says don't get this phone and a lot say do! Would you reccommend it for an 11 year old as i'm thinking of getting it for my daughter? She really wants a touchscreen that is 'stylish.' My absolute max would be £150 and am already stretching the budget here, PLEASE HELP!
    samsung asked on
    1. i like my phone, but it has frozen about three times when i was taking photos. i just turned it off and it was fine again for a few days. it is easy to use and would suit an 11 year old well there are a load of colourful covers to personalise it ect. my nephew (13years) showed me how it worked lol, he has the galaxy before this one and loves it. can't hel with gaming, but the music app. is good and i downloaded much of my music and with earplugs the sound is good. hope this helps u decide

    3. I really like my phone it hasnt frozen on me at all in the 3 months i have had it. It is quite sensitive and does jump onto different screens. The answerphone is a bit tricky when picking up voicemail as screen goes black when trying to key in numbers and the battery life is not great but in terms of ease of use i think an 11 year old will manage a lot better than me.I believe it does a lot of what the I phone does and looks good.

    Thanks for all your answers.
    samsung asked on
    1. As I think I said in my review this is my first smart phone ,so can't really compare it to others. My daughter who has a much better phone thinks it compares well with hers for much less money. Not sure it is still available at that tariff though!

I am still having difficulties with some aspects of it but that's probably just my lack of experience. Sorry can't be more helpful.

    3. I had a blackberry curve before this phone. The samsung is a lot faster - probably just because its newer. The samsung is far better value for money in my opinion. The only things better was that the blackberry has better email as well as blackberry messenger. Those are the only two things that I would rate better over the Samsung. On the Samsung the camera is far better, its more integrated and faster. Also it has better apps and is easier to watch videos on as its has a really good screen.

    1. My 10yr old daughterhas this phone and yes very strong and she is always playing her music and games on it,, i would say go for it after seeing how she plays and treats her phone lol
      Gary replied on

    2. I don't know how it would be with horses... (because I've never ridden a horse) however I've dropped this phone onto concrete and it hasn't got any scratches yet. The camera is a little hard to take pictures as the shutter button is on screen and it often goes blurry, but if you've got a steady hand it's perfect, with good extra settings. The video is a little pixelated, but what can you expect with a mobile phone? Over all, I would say it's a brilliant phone. I think it would survive a fall from a horse, and you can buy cheap screen protectors to reduce scratches. (about 99p on Amazon)
      I hope this helps!

I am sorry I don't use Facebook so can't answer that question. Can I suggest you go onto one of service providers sites to see if they can tell you?

As for the phone its really good but takes a little getting used to if you haven't had an android system before. Battery life is great if you take off WiFi and Bluetooth when you don't need it.

how long does the battery last if the WiFi and Bluetooth isn't on? and how long does it last when any or both of them are on?
    10x 4 answers.
    Elvis asked on
    1. my wifi i leave on all the time and my bluetooth only when i require it to be on and i can go 3 days without a charge. but on that note it really depends on how much you use the phone, ie when i make a lot of calls it can be only a day and half before a recharge is required. so the bottom line elvis is really to experiment with your phone but a guideline as to how mine is used is given above
      Gloria replied on

    2. I agree with Gloria's answer above: 3 - about4 days is about what I get too. I rarely use bluetoith ans switch it on and off as required. I used to leave wifi on all the time but have found that in areas where there are likely to be lots of available hubs or hotspots it's as well to turn it off as it seems to drain the battery more quickly. Also make sure you end any open applications using task manager - this also drains the battery.

    Catriana asked on
    1. most ace's are now on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and even if on 2.2 are easily upgraded using Kies, my only issue with the Ace is the battery but as long as you remember to keep an eye on the apps running it's not too bad. The Barcelona is yet another BB copy with orange bloatware so if you can get the Ace at a competitive price i say Ace all the way.
