Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Turn off the auto rotate and don't leave the wifi / wireless on when it's not needed and the battery will last for days; switch it to 'airplane mode' overnight to keep alarms on and the battery will push 3 days with light use (lots of texts, minimal calls, light internet use, minimal games); smaller than the Galaxy S II; handles the internet and email well.
Bad points:
The phone is large, I am a small female and this is about as large as I can hold in 1 hand (insert cheesy 'Carry On' joke here); Shows every fingerprint and speck of dust on it but a case would get round this; camera is terrible, takes forever to focus and does not work well in the dark, then again, you're buying a phone not a camera.

Score 4.0/10
Good points:
A nice looking phone with a clear, big screen. Mostly easy to use, similar to iphone and ipod with menu navigation and 'keyboard'
Bad points:
very poor battery life even without internet or bluetooth use. alarm wont sound if battery runs down during night (not been a problem with previous phones) very poor connection to internet when indoors - regardless of location, on rare occasions when experiencing good 3g signal.- very slow web browsing. additional case is essential as phone case is very slippery. would not reccomend for those wishing to use the internet - the ke factor in my decision choice and phone suggested by advisor purely for this

  5. How often do you have to charge the phone after how much usage please?

    Tallat asked on

      coleen replied on

    2. i usualy charge my phone every other night it does not always need this but i do it as it is the only point of contact i have but it does last a couple of days unless u r using it all day then it will need charging at least every other day
      katie replied on

  6. How does this phone compare with the i phone.
    John asked on
    1. I considered the i phone, but opted for The Samsung. The Galaxy is much more ergonomic than the i phone 4, and much more like the i phone 3g in design. The Galaxy is also much lighter than both i phone models. I don't profess to be an expert on the i phone so suggest you have a look at both phones for your self. Hope this helps.
      Kevin replied on

    2. Hi John,
I haven't actually owned an iphone. However, I had tried a friend's iphone before I committed to the upgrade. I have seeveral friends who own iphones and a couple with Galaxys. Since getting my hands on my Galaxy I can confirm that in my opinion, although different, the Galaxy's android features do pretty much everything an iphone does and more. One of the first and most obvious differences is that you don't have to send it away to get into the battery. I bought a 32 gig micro sd card on ebay. Probably more than I'll need but I'll be able to copy across all my music collection.
I'm still learning with it but am impressed with the swype texting and the multitude of available apps. I've downloaded a few. It was easy to link to my Gmail account and access internet.
If you think outside the iphone box and are not bothered by not being one of that particular flock, the Galaxy is ideal.
      Gerald replied on

  7. How is the screen in daylight? Are you able to see it and able to use the phone?
    Paul asked on
    1. Yea can use it no bother
      david replied on

    2. I havent had any problem seeing mine and im blind as a bat
      NIKKI replied on

  8. My callers say there is alot of interferance at they're end when i'm in a car or my excavator at work, it could be picking up static from the altinator . It sounds like i'm talking into a bucket of water.
    stuart asked on
    1. mine is fine apart from losing reception but my daughter has i phone and hers does the same with reception but apart from that it is always clear when speaking think you just got faulty one
      jane replied on

    2. Interferance is not caused by phones but something interfering with the signal in the area. I have had no problem with signal.
      Carol replied on

  9. How is it to use for texting, is the keypad?screen big enough to see and use ??
    tracey asked on
    1. I find it brilliant for texting, it's very quick and easy to text on the touch screen, a real pleasure. Very clear screen. I have big hands/fingers and find it very quick and easy..........Don't hesitate get your self one, you'll love it!
      Kevin replied on

  10. How do you forward a txt?
I have an i8910 and I tick the box next to the name in my contacts.

Can I enter txt 'old school' (predictive from a number pad display)

    Cheers in advance Kev
    Kev asked on
    1. i have I9000 if u go to a txt u want to forward press the white button not he arrow it gives u a list of what u can do just press forward and type in the number u want and press send
      katie replied on

    2. I too graduated from an i8910. To forward a text, press the bottom left, options key, then tap 'forward' Text is displayed with the keypad, to allow editing. Above on the screen is 'Recent', 'Contacts' and 'Group' options to select recipients. Tick boxes alongside contacts, as i8910
I used predictive texting at first. However, once I had tried the Swype and went through the tutorial it made things so much quicker and easier.
      Cheers, Gerry.
      Gerald replied on

  11. whats the camera quality and does it have a flash
    stu asked on
    1. Yes it does and the quality is really quite good.
      Neil replied on

  12. Does lack of flash for the camera mean only pics in daylight?
    John asked on
    1. No. I was a bit concerned that there isn't any flash, but there is a night setting scene mode, although i haven't really taken many night photo's yet.
      Kevin replied on

    julie asked on
    1. Battery life is ok depending on how you use it. If like myself you like to be on the internet most of the day you will find you can charge it most nights.

I didn't use the instructions i'm more of a learn by using type of person. However it didn't take me more than a few hours until i had it all set up n was downloading apps. It is a great phone and highly recommend.
      Carol replied on

    2. easy to set up the only down side is the battery life is not that good especially if your playing music or games you get a couple of hours at most
      jane replied on

    3. Battery needs charged every day, but I got a spare 1 for £10 from an accessory stand . I think I use this phone more due to internet, facebook, e-bay, games etc but easy to use
      LESLEY replied on

  20. I currently have an HTC Hero and want to upgrade. My issues with the Hero are 1) Battery sometimes doesnt last a day if GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi are used and 2) Synchronisation with Outlook using HTC Sync software is hit and miss; mostly miss. For anyone who has used both of these phones, is the Galaxy S an improvement in these two areas? Thanks.
    Colin asked on
    1. If you want to keep wifi etc on then sadly would have to say that it won't be any better. Also i haven't tried getting outlook on to phone but have no problems with picking up e-mails from yahoo.
      Paul replied on

    2. battery life is very poor on the galaxy s also, i use advanced task killer to kill apps in background but still the battery drains quite rapidly

      steven replied on

    2. Providing you have saved all your contacts on your old phone's sim and then put this sim into Galaxy S.
The old sim card needs to be on the same network too.
      Les replied on

  28. i want to know if the phone has english words dictionary....because i have SAMSUNG MONTE and it has dictionary which i so much like

  29. i got my galaxy today. how do i download games and stuff? do i need to connect to my pc? and having trouble getting on the net. is this becouse i havent regesterd my phon?
    cordelia asked on
    1. Yes think you will have to register your phone and get on line. You need to activate the data transfer icon which is done by pulling the list down from the top of your phone.
      hope this helps.
      Dave replied on

  30. I have two questions, please, to anyone kind enough to answer!

    1. Is it true that you cannot type more than three pages of text or it goes automatically to MMS and there is no way of disabling that? I type quite long texts!
    2. Does anyone have an Applemac computer and a Galaxy S phone? If so, how easy is it to download my music, etc from the Mac? I had been going to get an iPhone for ease but the Galaxy sounds so much better.
    Gail asked on
    1. Yes thats right about the messages, but i've only come across that a couple of times, no wonder orange offered me 50 mms with my contract on this phone!! Unfortunately I can't answer about the applemac as I just have a bog standard laptop but that is easy to but music onto my phone. I do however have no other faults with the Galaxy S, barring the battery life, which if your on the internet a lot it does zap it, but I have installed an app advanced task killer and superbox which does help a little with the battery life.
      Laura replied on

    2. I only send sort messages therefore have no idea what happens when one texts long messages. As for your second question, am sorry to say I do not do much of music on my phone.
      Rudo replied on

  31. Thank you to Laura. I have another question: How do you turn off the 3G and just have it on 2G to preserve battery life and also to reduce radiation?
    Gail asked on
    1. Radiation? Are you having a laugh? It's a mobile phone, not a lump of uranium! Anyhoo, go to Settings, Wireless And Network, Mobile Networks then select GSM Only whih will mean your phone is on 2G only. Or you could just join Orange as their 3G service never works anyway! lol
      Banjo replied on

  32. i just accepted the Galaxy s for a contract but now iv seen the s2 being advertised is this a better phone have i just gone into the contract too early? while im still in the seven days that i can change it please could somebody tell me if the S2 is better than the S?? thank you
    cheryl asked on
    1. I can only assume that the newer version phone would be better, I believe the processor is faster best thing would be to go to a phone comparison site and compare both phone that would flag up any differences.
      A verified owner replied on

  33. what is good about thi phone and does it have 3g/ media player.
    natalie asked on
    1. its just a fab phone so easy to use and navigate round. yes it does have 3g media

    Jorge asked on
    1. sorry to say but my phone broke before I got chance to insert card.Really sorry that I can't help
      chris replied on

    2. Go to menu, settings, storage, mount sd card and format sd card if you need to.
      Michelle replied on

  36. Is there any problem to leave the battery under charge longer than when it shows 100% or leave it the whole night under charge? Many thanks
    Jorge asked on
    1. None that i have found, i quite often leave mine plugged in & charging overnight as i find it easier.
      tracey replied on

    2. I'd tend to suggest you do leave it plugged in for longer, even if it says 100%. reason being it doesn't seem to be at 100% and when turning off the charger you can see an instant drop to the low 90%'s.
As a side note, be wary of the gingerbread update as it seems to zap the battery power. One way that seems to work around this problem is turning the phone off and on again after a full recharge....

      Martin
      martin replied on

  37. Everyone is saying the battery life is crap; is it?!
I'm getting the Galaxy S tomorrow; anything i need to know...
    Emma asked on
    1. It does tend to drain the battery if your constantly online. Due to all the great features this phone has you can forgive it this slight imperfection. I am constantly online on my phone and find i do charge it most nights. But its a great phone.

Hope this has helped make your decision.
      Carol replied on

    2. Battery is terrible, shocking I got a spare so I could use phone all day
      Tony replied on
