The apparent good points have proved disappointing in use. I bought this machine as it was a Samsung and should have been fully compatible with my Samsung TV. It is difficult to configure properly.
Also I was hoping to be able to freely interchange the use of the TV or recorder remote control handsets, which appear to have all the same buttons, but in practice do not work with both, making many of the good features of the TV unavailable. This is a pity as I have been very pleased with my Samsung 46" LED TV - Bad points:
- The recorders TV guide menu is completely different from the one on the TV and cannot be paged through only accessed line by line. The full program information is unavailable once TV is being accessed via the recorder. Also the tuner in the recorder is very slow to start. I suspect the two are of different ERA's and have been cobbled together. I would have expected better in 2011.

- Good points:
- There's a few bad reviews about this product - most complaining how difficult it is to use. Bearing in mind it took me 3 hours to get my Wii going, this took about five minutes. The guide is extremely slow but I juist use my TVs guide instead so it is no bother. Took a while to work out how to do timer record, but my mistake was not turning the unit off after setting, it's the very last bullet point on the instructions and who gets that far. Only other complaint is the limit of 12 timer settings, so a series record virtually wipes all these out. Apart from that everything is great.

User guide could be clearer
Help line number for Samsung quoted in one of the inserts is incorrect
If recording from the tv guide I havent worked out how to extend recording by a couple of minutes past the scheduled end time (apart from a manual timer record) to avoid underrunning

I just bought my samsung dvd hard drive recorder. It worked fine for about 2 days and then no sound!!. No sound when dvd player is switched on and none when watching what i have recorded. Any ideas??

Can you record one digital channel whilst watching another?

yes set up the recording, switch it off and watch the telly, at the rigth time it will switch on and record.

Even though I have deleted from the HDD you still have to check the library and delete from the library also.
The Guide button is in an obsecure place not easy to find.
The DVD remote control is that well designed at all.
