Michael, Shrewsbury Retired, like simplicity

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Ordinary recording and playback is easy to do. With 2 tuners and hard drives you can record 2 programmes at once or playback one programme while you record another - the handbook does not tell you this!

It links with my Panasonic TV and this allows some interaction from the TV's remote control.

Image quality is as good as the live TV programme.
Bad points:
None for the machine itself. But the handbook is often almost incomprehensible. It appears to be written by a non-native English speaker who does not know the subtle differences between the language of description and direction. Secondly, it contains no over-view of what the machine can do. Instead it just lists the sequences of operations to do different things. Thirdly, it can handle all sorts of things I know nothing about, nor want to. Altogether too complicated to remember how to use these other aspects.

Ian, Retired Chartered Engineer.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
This is a quality machine, well built and producing very good results.
Bad points:
The handbook is rubbish and in places incomplete.
Initially I was bugged with Parental control kicking in on it's own accord and of course it asked me for a password that I hadn't loaded.
It turned out that my machine had 0000 in that store and when I inputed that it asked me to choose my own one.
The instructions given in the handbook to change this again, if so desired, lead you nowhere.
I was given instructions from Panasonic for the simultanious pressing of buttons and so on.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Panasonic DMR-XW380

  1. Does it play SD cards? How do you connect to your computer?
    Don asked on
    1. Yes, it takes SD cards. There's a slot on the front panel. It has a USB port, too. I can't see anything in the handbook about connecting the recorder to a computer, but I believe you can connect Panasonic TVs to your computer.

      Hope that helps.
