Good points:
East to set up. Good Quality. Good Price
Bad points:
Would love it to have bluetooth but that would make it more expensive. Have purchased bluetooth speaker as my computer has it. I want to "throw" the sound to the screen and listen to it from behind.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
1080p and IMAX resolution compatibility produce stunning videos/films, easy to use and adjustable
Bad points:
Fan noise can creep up to much more than the minimum stated in the description in high room temperatures (heats up my room just by having the projector on!) and the rainbow effect is very noticable in black and white/high contrast scenes

  1. Hi does anybody know if this projector can be used with 3d-xl?
    eddy asked on
    1. Sorry don't know what 3d-xl is but for us we are delighted with the HD 200x projector.
We have looked on the net and the 3d-xl is an adaptor which can be used with this model. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

  2. hi there, i like the sound of this optima, im looking to get a screen size of about 6 to 8 ft, how far would i have to have the projector from the screen, my spare room is 12 ft long and would love to turn it in to my own cinema room. Regards Andy
    Andy asked on
    1. Hello,
We are delighted with our projector. Has excellent colour , lovely and sharp images really show well on this projector. We do a lot of audio visuals and show the sequences at various local camera clubs. Don't know where you are , don't expect your near us we are in St.Ives in Cornwall but if you are within a reachable distance you would be welcome to come and see for yourself. We actually bought ours on line from Tesco they were the cheapest and we paid £709 for it. this was in the freeze up in the winter
      Jacqui replied on

    2. hi andy the distance is about 174 inches the lense of the projector cannot be any lower than 12 inches from top of screen hope this helps regards julie

    3. My projector is 11ft from my 6ft screen. I'm not sure if a 8ft screen would be too big in a 12ft room. I would try out the projector on the bare wall first before committing to a screen size. Obviously the bigger screen would be better if it works out for you.

      Hope this helps

      John

  3. WHAT DO I NEED TO CONNECT SOUND TO IT AN AMP?HAS IT GOT HEADPHONE SOCKET?WHERE DO I INSERT CABLE TO AMP?

TY HOPE SOME 1 CAN HELP NEW TO ALL THIS

    TY
    HUNTE asked on
    1. Not sure what type of equipment you have. All I can say is that I have conected the projector to my HD DVD and the sound from my DVD to my Stereo System. I could have bought a cinema surround sound system and done the same. The projecter deserves the best sound system and perhaps I shall invest in a proper cinema surround system eventually. Meantime what I have works for me and I am very happy with it all. Hope this helps.

      Regards,

      John

  4. yes it does,do i have to use hdmi to an av receiver though as no optical or phono inputs/outputs(not sure)on back of projector so how do i connect to normal amp and speaker with phono??
    HUNTE asked on
    1. No idea. I just plug the audio for each device into my amp and switch channels depending on which one i'm using.

  5. Also can headphones be plugged in?Some1 on you tube says you can?cannot see it my self though

    thanks again

    HUNTE asked on
    1. No, I don't think so. Had another check to be sure but there's no headphone port on mine.

  6. Hi I want to use the projector for presentations and Kareokee thro a laptop is it good for this? Or shuld I be looking for another unit
    Terry asked on
    1. I don't have a laptop but use mine via my computer which is a touch screen Lenovo. It has a built in DVD/Blue Ray player and the quality is unbelievable. I can only think that the quality would be the same.
On another issue Asda are starting a price war on electrical/cameras etc from Monday just look around for a deal pre Christmas.
      Macka replied on

    2. I think this unit will cope amirably well your require using either HDMI or VGA, (preferably HDMI) where possible use HDMI as that will get you better video resolution.
      Kully replied on

    3. Hi Terry,
This projector is fantastic in HDMI mode for superb picture, even onto a plain wall! I use mine with a Panasonic 5 speaker audio system. Fantastic! It has two HDMI inputs and others beside this. Robin.

  7. I'm looking for a projector that can give me an 8ft (2.4m) wide picture from about 25ft (8m) away. Any help/advice would be very welcome!
    Roger asked on
    1. i have a 8ft screen, optoma is approx 15ft away to fill the screen, picture is awesome, just normal hd tv.blu ray alot better only used for 10hrs at moment. hope this helps you, contact me if you hav any problems.optoma hd 200x good value, less than £600 now.

  8. Thanks for the reply ISHWER .... but the question NOW is, what size is your picture when you move the projector to 25ft from the screen?????
    Roger asked on
    1. Roger, The most I have had my projector from the screnn is about 14ft and thats onto an 8ft wide wall.
The room is my garage that I have converted into a second lounge/TV/ computer room. At this range it does not completly fill the wall but the max for the projector will give you a 100ins screen which is ample in my situation.Hope that helps.

  9. Hi, I am very much interested in this projector, but have a quesitn that I have not seen addressed anywhere concernng projectors in general. I have a sloping ceiling of about 45 degrees. Would I be able to project an image on to this from aprox 10' from a table, and widen the bottom of the picture through keystone/? to compensate and thus see a presentable image, even if I have to lie back? I have not seen this question addressed anywhere so your input would be much appreciated. Thank you.
    Les asked on
    1. The short answer is I don't know. But we had a smaller problem with the projector being off centre and adjusting to accommodate it took a bit of doing. I am not sure keystone will correct such a huge offset as 45 degrees but the projector will function perfectly well at any angle or even upside down so my suggestion would be to slope the projector at 45 degrees. We slope ours a little but there is no reason why it couldn't be sloped to 45 degrees you just have to make a slope for it. Just make sure you don't block the airflow to the fan. I hope this helps.
      Ian replied on

    2. Les, I have not personally attempted 45 degree angle but I agree with Ian, if you tilt projector to be at roughly 90 degrees to ceiling and with existing lens, about 10 feet away, this should work very satisfactorily. Keystoning could then line up small differences.
      Robin
      Robin replied on

    3. Les, the keystone will not alter the image to a 45 degree angle but as with most people, using a sloped surface is a much better solution and using keystone to make small adjustments to get a true image. Remember to check the minimum projection distances on Optoma's website too.
