Bad points:
The Netgear DGN3500 does not maintain a stable ADSL connection, dropping its carrier every few seconds. After wasting basically half a day on the phone to my UK ADSL ISP plus another half day monitoring the constant dropping connections, we pulled out the Netgear and returned it as it is not fit for purose.

Netgear's support was useless, utterly banal, telling me to send out an engineer to hardware reset the brand new router.

Netgear is now banned for life following this experience. Another supplier's router works perfectly.

The DGN3500 is not fit for purpose. Thousands of people have the same problem on Netgear's "support" forums.

Easy set-up. Good web-based netgear wizard that makes changing any settings very easy.
Good range of functions e.g. external access to the router if required, 3 separate wifi networks (e.g. a guest network).
Bad points:
No ability to attach a USB printer.
Overpriced.

Score 1.0/10
Good points:
Struggling to think of any. It's a router that doesn't seem to do what it says it will.
Bad points:
Set up was poor as it required manual installation of the firmware update just to get it to work.
No better range than my old G Router and I've tried all the channels.
USB functionality is very limited and certainly will not allow significant file access or backup capabilities - fine if you only want to take a couple of pictures off a USB stick but I have a slot in the computer for that.
Netgear support is poor and you will spend longer getting cut off than you will speaking to anyone who might be able to help.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Netgear RangeMax DGN3500

  1. Hey, i was just wondering if the performace is up to spec, i.e the router is speedy and reliable, and also can cope with the demands of a household using a PS3 and laptop(s) at the same time

    Many thanks
    Josh asked on
    1. Can not say how it performers with a PS3. The router does stay connected but I still believe I had better range from my old G router so watch out if the router is some distance from the devices it is trying to connect to and there are walls and water tanks in the way.
