Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Microsoft Xbox 360 S 250GB

  1. is kinetic ready?
    Marco asked on
    1. Is it Kinect ready you mean? Yes it is.
      Lee replied on

  2. im buyin one for my partner and im torn between the 4 gb kinect xbox slim or the 250 gb xbox slim alone which is best
    kate asked on
    1. hi kate, i would go for the kinect if you can aford it, If you just buy the slim 250 and then wanto buy the kinect later it will cost you more later, you can get some good deals on them at the moment, i found tesco to be in the top 5 for price, not only that if you have any problems with it later you are only a drive away to tesco to sort it out, ware as if you get it from the internet you may have to post it to get it sorted, hope this helps. PS: the kinect is very good.
      gary
      gary replied on

    2. There should be a 250 with kinect available on Tesco Direct. Whilst Kinect is very good, alot of the games are somewhat limited and it will cost about £80 (or at least it was last time a checked) to get a separate 250gb. If your partner is a big gamer definitely got for the bigger hard drive, will be needed to install games, content and saved games etc. (Also the 4gb console is a matt black colour where as the 250gb is a gloss finish, looks much nicer!) Hope this helps.
      Michael replied on

  3. I'm not sure as to whether I should buy the 4gb or the 250 gb... is there any difference?
    Lucy asked on
    1. dont think there is any difference in the consoles just the size of the hard drive. check prices before you buy as the 250gb one could be better value. if you fill the 4gb one, a 250gb external hard drive could cost around £70/£80
      Matthew replied on

  4. is there joypad included or not coz in features there is not mentioned
    hammad asked on
    1. Yes you get a controller with the xbox.
      A verified owner replied on

    2. controller but no joypad, hope this helps
      boltonboyuk replied on

  5. does it come with a headset?
    lynn asked on
    1. Yes it does
      Chris replied on

  6. can you use usb memory sticks/flash drives to store game data?
    adele asked on
    1. Yes, though it will only allow you to use upto 16gb
      carlo replied on

  7. Can I play my old xbox games on this??
    lisa asked on
    1. Hi Lisa - yes, I believe there is "backwards compatibility" for the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox games - check the link below for info. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911314

If you meant your old Xbox 360 games, then yes, all the Xbox 360 games will play on the 'S' version console :-)

      Joe replied on

    2. Hi Lisa, Joe seems to have the answer and I'd trust that. As my son had new ganmes with the new Xbox, i.e. he had never owned games or xbox before, I really couldn't give you an answer. Sorry I can't be of more help. Have you tried googling your question into your browser, or contacting xbox themselves? Hope it all works out for you, Jackie
      Jackie replied on

  8. Hi, can the hardrive info from the older white xbox be tranfered onto the new one, with the xbox live which was only put on at xmas. even if our old one wont switch on? (Had ring of death)
    wendy asked on
    1. You can transfer live and your profile without using the hard drive just using the Internet. however to transfer the savings across you'd need a working xbox, and you can do it with a normal flash drive.
      Natalie replied on

  9. dose it come with kinect ?
    alfy asked on
    1. No, you have to buy this separately
      Rebecca Neill replied on

  10. is it good for the price?
    LOUIS asked on
    1. A brilliant console - i've had it for around six months now with no probs whatsoever. When you use the HDMI cable, the graphics on things like Assassins Creed and COD are unreal. Am also loving the online aspect - downloading arcade games and using skyplayer - excellent buy.
      Steven replied on

    2. the console is but inless you have sky the skyplayer is a rip off the amount it costs.
      Lisa replied on

  11. what do u get with this
    jake asked on
    1. You get the xbox 360, all cables, a wireless controller and a headset. Hope that helps.
      Anne-Marie replied on

    2. Yeah You Get Everything Anne-Marie Says, And The Xbox 360 S 205GB Is Fantastic!!
      Wayne replied on

    3. you get the xbox 360 itself wireless controller head set and instructions manual
      Julie replied on

  12. how long can you play on it during the day
    Kane asked on
    1. I've had it on for long periods with no probs just keep it in an open area with lots of cool air
      David replied on

  13. if i want to get xbox live all i need to get if the gold
is that all i need to by if i get this
    jake asked on
    1. hi , yes that is all you need
      gary replied on

  14. is everything there to set up?
    Ed asked on
    1. Everthing comes in the box that you would need, the same as the old xbox. The unit is wireless so you don't need to worry about ethernet cable, it comes with all leads to hook up to your TV, and comes with wireless controller, and wired headset, although the headset is beyond rubbish.
      Kyle replied on

  15. all i want to get is xbox live what do i need to get if i by this xbox

    jake asked on
    1. ot sure not set it up as yet only using it as a games console for a 5 year old boy soorry
      boltonboyuk replied on

  16. how often does it get the red ring of death? if ever.
    Jack asked on
    1. The new xbox 360 250GB console wont get the ring of death. The problems with the older consoles is that the soldering done on the circuits came apart which caused the ring of death. The only problem with the new console is that there are no memory card slots on it. But you can use memory sticks even though they are much slower.
      Greg replied on

  17. Hi sorry is this console compatable with kinect if i wanted to purchase it at a later date??
    kc asked on
    1. Absolutely, it is definitely compatible with Kinnect, that's why I got it for my son, as we intend to get Kinnect for ours. Hope this has helped, Happy X-Boxing! Warm regards, Jackie
      Jackie replied on

    2. Yep, as Jackie says, its compatible with Kinect - also, fyi, the Kinect comes with a power adaptor which is NOT needed if you have this 'S' version of the xbox 360 - just put the 'orange' usb from the Kinect to the 'orange' usb slot on the back of the xbox, and Kinect gets its power from there (thus, no need to use the power adaptor which is shipped with the Kinect) :-)
      Joe replied on

  18. which is better the xbox 4gb or the 250gb which is better to buy
    bob asked on
    1. the 250 has a huge amount of storage the 4gb will save 1 game only
      gary replied on

    2. 250 if you intend on using it a lot. 4 is ok if you barely use it I guess. Always had the bigger harddrives.
      Natalie replied on

    3. 250 has a hard drive 4gb has a flash unit which does not store games
      Michael replied on

  19. all i want to get is xbox live
what do i need to get if i by this xbox
    jake asked on
    1. All 360's come with the silver version of live, but to play online with friends etc you need to buy gold. You can do this once your account has been set up, also some games will come with 48hr gold trial codes which you can use.
This 360 has built in wi-fi so as long as you have a router it should connect. However, if it's in a different room you may want to consider hard wiring it as wi-fi will cut out.
      Becky replied on

  20. Hi, i heard that the new slim version is better than the old one, quality-wise, that is, it doesnt make as much noise, it doesnt break down and show you the `RED RING OF DEATH` and other nonsense. is this true?
    Sanjin asked on
    1. Yes, I think the slim version is much better. I have never had any problems with mine. It is much quieter and I have never had the "red rings of death", so I would give it a big thumbs up plus it has a built in adaptor for xbox live.
      Julie replied on

    2. I haven't encountered any problems at all with the slim version. It's an excellent piece of kit!
      Anne-Marie replied on

  21. Does it sratch disks

    Gedgk asked on
    1. Hi, no it doesn't scrath discs...short answer....many problems of the older 360 have been resolved, although connecting to " live " still has issues. PS3 still better hardware but Kinect makes the 360 the winner. Hope that helps Wayne
      Wayne replied on

  22. How does Xbox 360 gets " Red Ring Of Death"?
    Mustafa asked on
    1. the old ones did, but the new ones do not, it was due to over heating and melting the solder around cpu
      gary replied on

  23. Yes.Can you tell me which is better? Ps3 250gb or xbox 360 250gb??
    Rayyan asked on
    1. I have both but if I had to choose one I'd go for the ps3 since it doubles as a blu ray player
      Chris replied on

    2. Yes there are both pros and cons with the two consoles, but the PS3 has the added bonus of Bluray. I prefer the Xbox purely because I am used to it, but my friend has a PS3 and I like the user interface and how quiet it is when its running.
      Paul replied on

  24. Does it come with a month trial of Xbox Live Gold?
    Laura asked on
    1. Yes mine did
      regards
      melanie replied on

    2. yeah it did and after that i was offered another month for £1
      neena replied on

    3. Yes it does ;)
      Lucy replied on

    4. Sorry got it wrong u get a years silver free ;@
      Lucy replied on

  25. what is in the box? has a controller/headseet? cables?
    marius asked on
    1. yes it as all the items you ask about + manual and set up details
      cliff replied on

    2. Agree with cliff but make sure you buy a game cause it doesn't come with one.
      Hitesh replied on

  26. Hiya, On the official Xbox360 webste it says that all 'Xbox 360 250GB' & 'Xbox 360 4GB' Come with 1 month free xbox live gold. Does it come with it on here? x
    Hannah asked on
    1. Hi, to be honest I already have a gold account so did not check, On the side of the box it states 1 month silver included.
      Hope this helps.
      Alan replied on

  27. hi there i wanted to ask if the new s version xbox 360 comes with an HDMI cable and if the old xbox pads (xbox pro) are compatible with the new xbox 360?? p.s. how long is the warrenty on the console as well?
    Romeo asked on
    1. The new xbox 360 doesnt come with a HDMI lead. The old controler does not work with the new console. Only 1 years warrenty but dont worry the console is very well built and doesnt break down as easily as the older ones.
      Greg replied on

  28. Is this definitely the slim version? With the S in the title? I don't want to be miss lead. Many thanks

    Deborah asked on
    1. Yes 100% definitely the slim version
      Carlo replied on

  29. does it come with the power lead to turn it on because in the description it says there is no AC adaptor???????
    Dan asked on
    1. Yes comes with all cables needed to get gaming.
      mark replied on

    2. All the cables are there. Happy Gaming!
      Anne-Marie replied on

  30. does it come with AC adaptor because in the features it says it does not???
    Dan asked on
    1. yes it comes with an AC adaptor, all consoles come with a power cable.
      Lee replied on

  31. i want an xbox 360 but ive got a ps3, should i sell the ps3 and get an xbox or have two consoles?
    james asked on
    1. I've never had or played the PS3 so I'm not really qualified to answer - but the xBox is quality
      Steven replied on

    2. Up to you depends if you have got the money! But Xbox 360 S is miles better
      Lisa replied on

  32. Hello, I really want to buy this Xbox but i want to know: even if i wouldn't go online to play, do I still have to pay for internet connection?
    Annonymous asked on
    1. hi NO you will not pay to go on line, YOU only pay to play games on line with the xbox360.
      regards
      gary
      gary replied on

  33. Does the 250GB come with a free subscription to Xbox Live? If so, what level (i.e. Gold, Silver, Bronze) and for how long?
    Rhys asked on
    1. Silver is free anyway. But you don't get gold for free.
      A verified owner replied on

    2. gold is payable but it depends how much you pay and for how long
      boltonboyuk replied on

    3. With a new Xbox you get 1 months free Gold membership on up to 3 Xbox Live accounts that you create on that console. This membership(s) automatically revert to silver (which is free but you cannot play games online) once the free month is finished and then you can either subscribe monthly/annually etc by entering your card details into the console or by purchasing a redemption card. The current average cost for a years Gold membership is £39.99.
      Paul replied on

  34. how load are they
    macca asked on
    1. How Loud? My boy had his on a wooden cabinet, it vibrates quite loud, cos they have a good fan to stop the over heating problem it need a soft surface underneath, be careful not to block the fans or it will still overheat. My boy also has it standing up instead of lying flat. Find the right surface n position then its no problem, he has just got used to the noise!!
      Thanks
      Nick replied on

  35. Is this the new slimline one?
    karen asked on
    1. Yes. Very much improved over the original.
      Alan replied on

    2. Aye it's slimline. Feels very well made.
      Tom replied on

  36. I want to know if it is really worth buying this one or will there be a new one coming out soon but I'm only 12 and my parents are making me save up for it! :( only got £40 but i might buy it off GAME preowned £149!
    Tom asked on
    1. dont know of another being released as yet,i would get one when you can or you might be in for a long wait.
      warren replied on

    2. Newer, bigger, better and faster computers & consoles are ALWAYS being developed. The longer you wait, the more you'll get for your money BUT if a new one does come out, that often makes the old one cheaper :-)
Save up, and when you have enough money, decide then whether you can't wait any more!
      Walter replied on

  37. im buying a xbox 360 slim 250gb i just want to know of you get any kind of problem on the new one or sould i just get a playstation 3 320gb ????????????????
    jacob asked on
    1. Hi, i have not had any problems with my xbox hardware or gameware, it is simple to use and set up, the only issue i had was setting up your user account takes a while and if you sign up to Xbox live and want to cancel your subscription you must ring microsoft helpdesk to talk to an operator, i changed my payment subs to paypal, atleast that way i can cancel the paypal agreement without ringing microsoft, i nearly bought a ps3 myself but it was around the time sony playstation had their website hacked and it put me off.
At the end of the day it's the players preferance as tp ps3 vs xbox 360, but i have used both and recommend the xbox 360.
Thanks for your question and hope the above helps.

      Paul replied on

  38. if i buy xbox from uk would that work in usa?
    mo asked on
    1. Don't know, but there is no reason as to why it should not work.
      Philip replied on

  39. hi i was getting an xbox 360 250gb for my birthday and i saw yours was only £148 i went into store to get it and they ran out so i was wondering if you was gunna stick with that price or will it change when you next get them in?
    jordan asked on
    1. Hi. I have never sold an Xbox.
I bought my son one for his birthday from Dixons on-line.
      Andrew replied on

  40. how many controlers come with xbox 360 250gb and wich better the slim or normal xbox360 250gb?
    al asked on
    1. Hi, for me the slim is better what with built in wireless/quieter/better looking. You only get one controller unless you go for a special edition xbox which normally comes with two but are more expensive, you can always use a controller from the fat xbox as they work on both machines.

      I hope this helps

      Alan replied on

  41. hi is the x box 360 a good gift for an 9 year old
    emma asked on
    1. To be honest with you the xbox 360 wouldnt be my best choice as a gift for a 9 year old. Minimum age around 11-12 years. Games nowadays are more violent and geared more for an adults mind. I suggest the Nintendo Wii or DS3d. I hope this helps.
      Greg replied on

    2. Yeeeesss but only if you get the right games. My lad was an xbox360 nut from the age of 9years, now he's 11 he's hardly ever off of it. games are violent, but not if you buy games like sonic or crash bandicoot racing etc. My lad loved these at 9years and as they are older games they are very cheap now. The thing is the xbox 360 will last into his teens as you buy the games that suit his age as he grows. Though most people tend to be into call of duty first person shooter from ages of 8years and upwards, I'd stick with the fun stuff like the "karts" games and sonic etc. There are games to suit every age.
      Andrew replied on

  42. i want an xbox where should i buy it from

    john asked on
    1. Argos seem to be cheaper than other retailers at the minute
      Sonya replied on

    2. I searched around for a bit waiting for an offer and then Tesco Direct dropped their price to £148. Try the major retailers!
      Laura replied on

  43. I havent a clue about xbox but need to buy 2 for my sons for xmas, what does the S stand for ?
    helen asked on
    1. please see the following article: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/gadgets/1279153/microsoft-xbox-360-s-250gb

.........."There have been minor updates to the original design, including cooler tweaks to try and improve reliability, the addition of an HDMI port (absent from the original 2005 model), and onboard storage for the budget Arcade model. Still, this is the first major redesign, akin to Sony’s launch of the PlayStation 3 Slim last year. There seems to be some disagreement over the new console’s name, with Microsoft and many retailers calling it the Xbox 360 250GB, while the hardware itself and some other retailers refer to it as the Xbox 360 S."

  44. Hi , I am deciding to buy a console. Prior to this I was relying on my PC. But it seems that PC requirements keep changing very quickly. Now I am getting confused between the two obvious choices - the Xbox360 or the PS3. I am abit skeptical about the 360 as two of my friends had Xbox 360s which had the problem of Red rings of death. However I am assuming with the latest versions of the console the problem might have been fixed. Please advise !
    Parvez asked on
    1. The new "slim" 360, don't have the ring of death problem, they put new fans and ventilation points on the console.
If your going to be watching blu rays and play games I would go for the ps3, however if its mainly for games and online gaming i would go for the 360, even though you have to pay £40 per year for xbox live. Its worth it. you will need to buy a HDMI cable for the xbox though if you want HD, not too sure if you need to do the ame for the PS3.

      hope that helps.

  45. my xbox 360 had sound but then it stoped how do I get it back?
    flynn asked on
    1. Try unplugging the hdmi cable and then putting it back in. Also might be worth doing a master reset on your console from the system settings.

  50. What are the features of the HDMI Cable? Does it give you better graphics when you play the games? Is it important for the Xbox 360 to have an HDMI Cable?
    Miles asked on
    1. I'm sorry, I don't know, but I believe it's for hooking up the x-box to an HD monitor - see the following link:

    2. Hey - 1) HDMI is digital, no analogue (think Vinyl records as analogue, with the needle reading the grooves, and then think MP3 as digital - just 1's and 0's interpretted to be a sound) 2) HDMI does not change what the Xbox is capable of, simply how it outputs the signal - some say they can see massive improvements to colour, clarity and sharpness of pictures using HDMI cables, some say they can't see any improvement over componant cables (older style of High def cabling). 3) Is it important? It depends - up until the introduction of those brand new LED tellies and other ultraslim tv's, then I'd say no, not really. Its all about the connections on your tv (or your AV amp is some cases) - if you have componant inputs on your tv (search google for componant cable), then you don't need hdmi at all. If your tv is ultra slim and only has inputs for HDMI, then yes, you'd need it.

Long and short of it is this - HDMI was a convenient way for the manufacturers of electronic equipment to get a high def picture AND sound down one single cable. The alternatives were componant cables (you needed separate cables for sound and picture). In terms of the xbox and HDMI, i'd say if you can get one with HDMI, do, as they are the later versions of the console that should be more resilient - but don't kill yourself to get one with HDMI :-)

  51. Ive got 120GB harddrive from my old xbox 360, can i transfer it on to the 250GB harddrive using the transfer kit ive got?
    Adam asked on
    1. I don't believe so. I tried to move my content from the 20Gb HDD via my laptop and it just wouldn't work. Either I did it wrong, or it's just not possible to use the transfer kit method between the 2. I'd suggest using an external HDD or USB stick that's been formatted by the xbox before hand.

    1. My son plays it constantly - for at least 6 hours most days - and as of yet there has been no red ring/dot of death. He has had the xbox for about a year and a half at this stage. Hope this helps.

    2. I have my own xbox and have done research and have found out that the red ring of death happens the first time you turn on your xbox but it doesn't usually so in short it doesn't matter how long you play it.

    Does it affect the gameplay
    Steven asked on
    1. This is the first x box we have had, previously we have owned PS3's so not sure of any differences. My son says that the gameplay is better than the PS3 if that helps !

      Julia replied on

    2. its the amount of space you have to store games/movies on your hard drive - 250gb is best as you don't have to worry about downloading videos or content from the xbox marketplace (a lot of free) and not having enough space to keep it. It does not affect the gameplay as the xbox has dual core processors - Great Purchase as I've just upgraded from the white xbox 360 and its so much more quieter.
      Shirley replied on

    3. No it doesn't effect the gameplay, it just means you cant download as much stuff onto the hardrive, i have a 250gb and ive download loads of apps and burnt mw3 onto the hardrive and it hasn't even used up 2gb yet.
      Becci replied on
