The Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System is excellent, but of course works effectively only with a PC.
Considering the number of discussions there are out there on the internet, Logitech ought to be a bit clear about the limitations, or offer some solutions for those who want to use with TV because some online discussants claim they can achieve surround sound, but then others contradict them. Granted, I got a discount on the z506 speaker system and Logitech told me that surround sound could be achieved, but wasn't the case. The Logitech website infers that the wireless adapter works, but it doesn't for the x-530 and couldn't get it to work for the z506 speakers either, though have read that the adapter is suppose to work with the z506 speakers, but sound is weak. Really should have this under 'Bad points' but just to note again, that for a PC, the x-530 is excellent and at least provided improved sound for LCD TVs, but that doesn't take much. - Bad points:
-
The assumption was that because the Bluetooth wireless adapter was bundled with the speakers that it would work and I'd have wireless speakers, but it doesn't work, so shouldn't have been bundled with the X-530 speakers.
X-530 should have longer wires as well for rear speakers, even front ones are too short.

- Good points:
- Cheap good works perfectly loud you can change the amount of bass.
- Bad points:
- If you dont turn off the speakers from the subwoofer you hear a little whirring. The speakers are a tad bassy even when turned all the way down i had to mess with the equaliser so i could watch some tv and actually hear the voices.

Excellent sound quality and can go VERY LOUD! The cables for the rear speakers are quite short but you can buy 2 x 10m phono extension leads off of abay for around £3 which is what I've done.
At very low volume you can hear foreign radio stations through the satelites but this is not a problem as it is really difficult to hear and my speakers are either turned up or off.
These speakers are also amazing for gaming and movies if they are set up properly around your room. For example when playing when playing GTA IV on my pc, and a helicopter moves across the screen, it actually sounds like it's moving above me. It's a very immersive experience and will give you an advantage on FPS games like COD and BF3.
Overall, I highly recommend this 5.1 Surround Sound System. - Bad points:
- The netting one of my speakers came only very slightly ripped.

Can I use a standard 3.5mm plug as the only sound pickup ?
If I use only the 3.5mm plug as sound feed will all speakers work ?-
YES
-
-
Can i plug my ipod in it anyway ?
-
Unless you have a 35mm round connectiong from your iPod probably not
The only option I can thing of is having an iPod docking station and connecting that to the Logitech
-
-
what is the sound like for games
-
I have not used speakers for games but am sure its a great sound as it is with music.
-
I will make a similar difference to the sound of the game as it does to the music. If you PC/Console allows the use of different modes then you will get great sound and you will appear to be right inside the action

-
how can I connect to a laptop or to my lcd tv and which cables requires?
-
It depends on what type of laptop you have and what connections you have in the TV
Generally the TV will have either a HDMI connector or a DVI connector and you PC will probably have a connector to attach an external monitor (either a D type connector or a DVI connector and the latest ones may even have a HDMI connector)
If you provide me with the link to you PC details and a link to you TV details I'll tell you which cable to use
-
-
how do you connect all of the speakers together? and also how are the spekers powered?
-
Powered by mains. All the individual units connect to the base unit, which is both connected to the mains and the pc/laptop.
-
All colour coded so easy to set up.
-
-
will this work with a samsung plasma t.v? and would i need the wireless mouse to work it?
-
I only use mine on my PC but can see no reason why not.
-
-
can you tell me how they connect to a laptop??
-
What I do i plug them into the headphone jack and, if available on the PC, then configure the jack as a 5.1 system. If you have an older PC that does not provide jack socket configuration you should still be able to use the headphone jack but will not have much configuration control
-
-
see how the bass? can u adjust the bass separate from the other volume control? because the bass is to loud.
-
I have mine attached to a PC and use the HD sound tuner that provides the ability to reduce/increase all the speakers by a 10+dB range
If you are using an old PC then you may not be able to
-
-
Can i plug into my p a system as a monitor speaker
-
John,
I am not sure, it would depend on the system and the connections. There is no logical reason why not if the connections are available however; I have no spec ific knowledge in this area - sorry
-
-
Can the speakers work with blurays players an is the surround sound quality gods for the money. Thanks
-
Yes it works with a blue ray
As for the sound quality, as with everything, you get what you pay for. Also sound quality depends very much on a number of factors, not only the speakers:
1) The listener and their hearing capability
2) The space within which the sound will be listened to
The above are the most important. In my experience, as someone in their 50's who has good hearing, the quality I get from the X-530 is sufficient for my needs. If I am going to spend £1000 on the room I listen in, £1000 on the TV, £hundreds on the sund system then I would buy another speaker system but for most I believe this will be sufficient

-
does it work with ipod touch
-
sorry. I use it only for pc use. I do not think it will work with Ipod touch
-
I don't have ipod touch but if you have there a jack connector hole (there where you connect standard headphones) then yes . But music will be played only in stereo not in 5.1
-
-
can you use this for your ps3 and listen to it out of your tv ?
-
Yes
-
if you tv have headphones output then you can connect this speakers but they will be played only in stereo not 5.1
-
-

-
Yes very. A bit bassy at times but can be adjusted
-
-
Can this product connect to an Acer laptop? if yes, is it an easy job?
-
I have connected to PC. However I do not see there will be a problem in connecting to laptop. Go to Logitech website and download instruction manual.
-
you can connect only when you laptop have build in sound card with 5.1 system. If your laptop have 3 jack connectors (blue, orange, black) you can connect them.
-
-

Would I be able to hook up the 5.1 surround sound to my iphone, or would it only play on selected speakers? is the quality any good? Does the wireless work well, does it require any wires at all or does each speaker sit on it's own, Thank you!
-
you can hook it up to your i phone if you buy one of these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Phono-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B000Q6LSVS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1336907691&sr=8-5) then it plays through all speakers. the whole set is wired i dont think there is any wireless components sorry. and the quality is very good, deep bass and loud perfect for what i wanted. hope this helps

-
i have these speakers.. they were working fine and i went away for a couple of days come back and the bass didnt work.. how do i fix this?
-
Josh,
It could be a number of reasons, are you able to expand a bit on what your speakers are connected to (is it a PC, a DVD/Bluray player/ etc.) and maybe I will be able to point you to a potential solution otherwise I do not have sufficient information to be of assistance

-
Hi i have a HP Pavilion g series and i only have a headphone socket and a mic socket,Will all the speakers work with just the headphone socket??
-
I don't believe so
-
-
Can i connect these speakers with my laptop which is having a 2.1 channel sound card i was curious about that all 5 speakers will work with 2.1 channel sound card?>
-
I'm pretty sure you can change your settings so that it fills all of the speakers. I think that would mean the surround sound wouldn't work, but for music, you'd get sound from every speaker.
-
yaa i agree wid u daniel...its a awsomee set..i luv it...
-
-
I want to connect each of the speakers to a corner of my room, how long is each of the cables coming from the speakers?
-
Rear speakers about 3m others around 1m
I have purchsed male-female cable extensions (2m extension around £3 on amazon) and I am using them very effectively
For the price I am extremely happy with the results

I want to connect each of the speakers to a corner of my room, how long is each of the cables coming from the speakers?

dont have the box to tell you exactly but they're really long. I live in a student room and it reaches all corners.

Can the 5.1 surround connect to a Play Station 3 system and dose it come with an optical cable ??
-
Hi,
Unfortunately it doesn't come with an optical cable, but instead uses three 3.5mm cables which would plug into your PC's sound card. I've looked, but couldn't find a DAC for optical to 3.5mm as my LCD uses optical out, so had to use the Logitech converter which takes the three 3.5mm cables with an output to a Y- RCA cable, the one with red and white with a 3.5mm used to plub into the TV's headphone jack. You might check youtube to see if there are any examples showing how to connect the x-530 to a Play Station, but it's my impression that it's not possible to get 5.1 except with a PC, though you might be able to achieve 5.1 with your Play Station via a PC. Same problem with the z506, which I bought at a big discount from Logitech; best option is their z906, which they recently dropped in price. Good luck! -
No its doesn't come with an optical cable sadly however it comes with an adaptor which you can use with the ps3 cable that you plug into the tv (not hd wire). However you can still play in hd the sound will need to come out of the original wire you got with the ps3 so it will not be surround sound but everything works fine it sounds complicated but it isn't I'll be happy to help

-
Can i use this with my ipod via the headphone socket? thanks
-
Tes you can use it with any device with a headphone MP3 socket
-
if you want to use all of the speakers with your device you need to buy an adapter. this because the speakers are surround sound and they have 3 seperate 3.5mm jacks (each one controlls about 2 speakers) so you can only use one at a time in your single headphone jack device but in the box you get a splitter to red and white phono leads so if you buy one of these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Phono-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B000Q6LSVS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1336907691&sr=8-5) you can use all of the speakers for your single headphone socket. hope this helps.
