Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Humax PVR-9300T

  1. how many hours recording time does it have argos say 200 and tesco say 100??????
    liz asked on
    1. i have recorded over 100 hours i think bill
      biil replied on

    2. Hi. It's 200 hours. I can say, still no problems with it. I recommend it!
      jane replied on

  2. does this model allow you to watch other tv channels while recording a different one?
    Bill asked on
    1. Yes
      Jim replied on

    2. Yes,I use it lot with no problems,
      robin replied on

    3. Yes I to use it regularly
      aLMA replied on

  3. Can you record two programmes simultaneously which are scheduled for the same time
    Lydia asked on
    1. Hi

Yes you can. You can watch a third at the sametime except when you are recording Dave for some reason.
      Clare replied on

  4. Is this the same as a video recorder and if not can it be fitted to any tv and how does it work
    carol asked on
    1. no it's a dvd recorder my tv has built in free view i don't know about other tv
      biil replied on

    2. Its better than a video recorder. Its fitted through a scart lead. Taping a program is much easier than a video recorder. Its very simple you just display the guide and then press a button to record it really is that simple.

      Well worth the money.
      Belinda replied on

    3. Hello. This does the same job as a video recorder, except it stores your TV recordings on an internal hard disk drive (like you'd find in a PC), so no tapes. You can stores a couple of hundred hours of your recordings on the box before you need to delete any to make room for new recordings, so no more tapes to buy and store. You need to use the menus to record stuff, which is sometimes more fiddly than popping a tape in, but once you've sorted that, it's a piece of cake. Also, the picture quality is great, because it records digitally, unlike tape.

  5. Hi - I have a 9200t but it doesn't upscale. Does the picture look good using a HDMI cable? is there a lot of difference between it and true (1080p) HD?
    Ian asked on
    1. Hi Ian
I purchased a PVR-9300T and have had no problems with it. I'm no a techie and have no idea what a HDMI cable is, let alone a (1080p)HD. Hope you find someone who knows what you are talking about.
      Regards Jim
      Jim replied on

    2. I don't have HD but the picture is superb on cable - don't know about HDMI and108op HD- I'm 8O so struggling with what I have

    3. Hi Ian.

  6. What are the 30 FREE TV channels it supplies?
    Peter asked on
    1. its all the ones get on freeview. If you put freeview into google, it tells you what they all are. You do need a decent aerial to get them all though.
      jane replied on

  7. Can I use this on an old portable which has no scart socket?

    Sam asked on
    1. The box has a TV/VCR output, so I'd say yes. You should check the spec. though, to check if it ways it has an RF output option.
      Ben replied on

  8. Can you set it up to record a series automatically each time thr programmes on?
    Kay asked on
    1. Yes. Very easy to do.
      Jim replied on

    2. Yes all you have to set is weekly after setting time and date for first episode.
      robin replied on

  9. Hi ,
I Have a DVD recorder with HDMI and if I cconnected the PVR to the DVD with the HDMI cable would Istill need to use a Scart lead to transfer to DVD recorder
    Mike asked on
    1. I dont think so, but mine is in kids room & is connected to a vcr. I presume its the same for a dvd, but real answer often lies in trial & error!
      jane replied on

  10. Hi Its Mike again
As mentioned above I have a DVD recorder which has a lot of recording modes like SP, LP , EP , SLP, etc , I just wondered what speeds this PVR has got or is it just one standard speed? I have just ordered one from Tesco Direct , maybe I'll get it 2moro.
    Mike asked on
    1. Hola

Not sure; it sounds to me like these are ways to stretch more recording capacity out of a fairly restricted medium - i.e. the DVD disk is pretty limited in terms of capacity (4.7Gb - i.e. 2 films) - so these functions are not so relevant when it come to a HDD PVR with a Hard Disk which can hold potentially 100Gb plus (i.e. 50 films).

Hope this helps, but sorry if I've misunderstood those function acronyms..
      Ben replied on

  11. I see this pvr has freesat is that correct.
    Peter asked on
    1. bought 1 year ago and it only has freeview.
      jane replied on

  12. How do you set up a series link?
    Tracey asked on
    1. It gives you that option when you select to record a programme via the guide (when you're in the guide and select OK on the programmme you want). It says 'whole series or single program'. Hope that helps!
      Ben replied on

    2. It is really easy, just select your program on the guide then press ok and it will ask you if you want a single program or the whole series.
      Belinda replied on

  13. Why does the guide keep appearing whilst I'm watching a chosen programme? Thanks for any help.

    Pat asked on
    1. sorry don't know, doesn't on mine
I don't find it as easy to use as the previous one I had

      pat replied on

  14. Does the 9300T model have a RESUME function when playing back a recording?, also can the remote control be used from different positions in the room?
    Val asked on
    1. Not sure what a resume function is, but if you are watching a recording and stop it, it picks up where you left off, even if the power has been off in-between. Beware though, that if you press play twice quickly, it goes back to the beginning. The remote works from anywhere in my room, but its not a huge room. Hope that helps.
      jane replied on

    2. yes it does resume form where you stopped the program. remote is good from around the room, but my living room isn't massive , all in all the remote is very good .
      Gary replied on

  15. Hi
    is it easy to install
    helen asked on
    1. No problems and I'm an idiot!
      Jim replied on

    2. Hi

      yes very easy
      Clare replied on

  16. Can you watch and record HD channels with the 9300T?
I only ask because it has a HD connection, but do you also have to have HD box?
    William asked on
    1. Hello

The PVR is capable of reading and recording whatever it receives (HD or SD) and you can both record and watch two different channels. Trouble is that normal Freeview has little / no HD as yet; to now you'd need FreeSAT for that.. Normal Freeview is launching a few HD channels and you can check here to find out when in your area: http://www.freeview.co.uk/HD

Until HD is available, the box's HDMI interface just ensures crisp video delivery to your TV in the correct scaling format (for a modern TV with a built-in HDMI interface).
      Ben replied on

  17. when setting the pvr-9300 to record a program, can an adjustment be made at the begining and the end to allow for the program starting early or finishing late?
    colin asked on
    1. Yes, but I can't remember how! I came accross it by mistake. It may be in the menu - recording preferences section, but you definately can somehow.
      jane replied on

    2. Well all I do is set the time earlier and later than the programes start and finishing times. If it starts on time you get the end of previous progame and the start of the next.
Thats how I do it,I hope it helps.
      robin replied on

  18. Anyone think this is a good buy for an 80 year old who is a complete techno-phobe?? My mum actually wants to carry on using her VCR as she simply hits a channel button and presses record . . . she has a phobia about 'change' and feels she is being forced into this by the switch-over. I need the simplest recording device possible to save on the ear-ache I'm going to get!
    Gavin asked on
    1. Well I think it maybe a little challenging for a week or so,however after that I think if your a little patient she will love it, basic are ok, but to do a series record, is a little more complicated, but I reckon, it's the best of the bunch, and I had a good look at a few machines, go for it, and work though the instructions together and a week will soon go, and then a month, and by then she will be able to use most function,
      hope this helps
      Leon
      Leon replied on

    2. Its simple to use if someone could help her set it up and book in any programs to record. It will record whole series automatically and they're very easy to get to in the main menu. Its alot easier to use than some alternative products :)
      Becca replied on

  19. analog television but get a good picture with just a freeview box. tried a recorder and it would not pick up BBC stations, although all other freeview stations were ok. rang help line and was told I would need a new arial.so I returned the recorder. will this be ok.
    Jeff. asked on
    1. It all depends on how good the signal is . If your normal freeview has a good signal then it should work . But I'm no expert . There's always a signal boster .hope this helps
      Gary replied on

    2. Suggest you press MENU then SYSTEM then SIGNAL DETECTION. This shows signal strength. Mine reads 100% with original aerial. If you have most signals, try a re-tune.
      Alan replied on

  20. Can you veiw through the TV while the unit is in standby. As I think it would be complicated for my mum to have to use the humax remote, and it would be easier if I just recorded for her.
    Angela asked on
    1. no the unit has to be fully on to view TV but you can do everything with just the one remote for the humax, you only need to use the TV remote to actually turn the TV on and off. Hope this helps
      Christine replied on

    2. Hello Angela, yes the humax has to be fully on to use its tuner. Of course,if your mums tv has its own built in digital tuner then you only need swith the humax on when you wanted to set for recording which is itself so easy, just work through the programme guide and highlight what you want with one button. So easy even i can do it!
      John replied on

  21. Does it record subtitles? Can I copy to a DVD?
    David asked on
    1. records subtitles
don't know about recording to dvd
      pat replied on

    2. Never tried to record subtitles, but I think you can.
This unit will not enable copying to DVD.
      Paul replied on

  22. if a programe runs over say 10 minutes does it follow this or do you lose that last 10minutes
    Jan asked on
    1. It depends on how you've set the overrun settings.
      Chris replied on

  23. does the remote have a record button so we can record a programme as it starts without using the menue.
    june asked on
    1. yeah, it's very simple. It will record that program until it finishes, seems to work better through the TV guide tho. It has a number of other great features on the remote like skipping adverts (forward 30seconds, back 5) the number of seconds can be changed as well. Hope that helps :)
      Tom replied on

    2. Yes it does have used it several times
      robin replied on

  24. Can you record a programme after it has started? Useful if you are disturbed by unexpected guests or the phone!
    Kay asked on
    1. Yes you can. You press the round red button on the remote and confirmation that it's recording will appear on the TV screen. You can also press the pause button if the interruption isn't going to be for long then you can press it again to resume watching. At the end of the programme you'll be back in "real time" . Hope this helps.
      Christine replied on

  25. i have a humax hd. can you upgrade or do you have to buy a new box.
    elizabeth asked on
    1. sorry cant help with that ,havent really used ours as we have been away for 4 weeks and dont really know much about them anyway
      john replied on

  26. What is shown on the front display? is there channel number and name, show that it is recording, time(length) of program etc,
    many thanks,
    M
    Mike asked on
    1. It will show the channel name in big letters and in smaller letters if it is recording or a clock face to show a upcoming program is due to be recorded.
      graham replied on

  27. How good are the editing facilities? The Toshiba I have at the moment can delete bits at front & end & I can also take out bits in middle (ads etc) before putting it to a DVD recorder. Can the Humax do similar?
    Jim asked on
    1. sorry not sure. I just use to do basic recordings from TV always fast-forward adds anyway

      pat replied on

  28. does it a USB port?
    bajmoe asked on
    1. It does but it's not functional, they stopped it working because no-one used it on previous models.
      Tom replied on

    2. Yes it does, there is a USB port in the front behind the swing down panel. (My model was manufactured in 2011 and there may be some small changes on current models.)
      Barry replied on

  29. can you use the vcr slot to set up surround sound
    Pasha asked on
    1. I'm sorry but I've no idea. A quick look at the manual hasn't come up with anything obvious so I suggest you email uksupport@humax-digital.co.uk
      Christine replied on

  30. Can you pause and rewind live tv?

    Lindsey asked on
    1. Hi there you can pause live TV I've personally not needed to rewind so no experience of that - But if you've paused why would you need to wind back you just pick up from where you left off. Happy to try for you
      Sylvie replied on

    2. Yes, you can pause live TV and pick up where you left off. This is a new experience for me, and I've only tried it out, rather than used it often. Useful if someone interrupts when you're watching live TV.
      Susan replied on

  31. I don't seem to be able to get subtitles on recorded programs. I press OPT button and it says 'not available during playback'. Is there anything you can do to record the subtitles?
    Susan asked on
    1. Subtitles are showing on my recordings and can't recall having to apply settings. Will look later and let you know...
      Chris replied on

    2. I must say I have never used this feature, however I know it is possible, sorry it's no help but if I do come across the answer I will inform you.
