James, Chelmsford i'm darn handsome!

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
recording the whole series of something so that if there is a time change you won't miss any of it. Also when you are recording something they suggest other similar programmes you may be interested in.this is my second humax machine and its a vast improvement to the first one
Bad points:
if you want to see what is on by the tv guide but it is 5 days into the future there doesn't seem to be a quick way to get there - you have to go through each day until you get to the day you want, that is a bit of a pain

Score 5.0/10
Good points:
Easy to operate
Bad points:
As the HD picture quality is not much better than previously obtained (my wife can't tell the difference!) spending a LOT OF MONEY (unfortunately, I can't tell you how much on this site for some marketing reason) on this bit of kit is probably a waste of money for us. The problem may lie with our eyesight and not the HD box!
The HDMI cable supplied did not work with my TV and I had to spend an additional £17 on a cable that did work.

It's able to do a lot more, but I can't get my head round it yet! I find the manual a bit confusing.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Reviewer left no comment
Bad points:
Handset is not particular user friendly - majority of buttons are small and black and hard to see - not as easy to use as Sky handset.

Series link/recording - function does not appear to take into account that a programme may be running a few minutes last and does not extend a few minutes; therefore quite often miss the last few minutes!!

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Humax HD-FOX T2

  1. Is it compatible with Western Digital Elements SE Portable Hard Drive (1TB) for recording tv programmes?
    Martin asked on
    1. Not used the actual drive you mention, but have found it works with all (2!) of the external usb drives I have tried as well as with an internal drive fitted in an external usb 'box'. In fact I now use the latter, as I swapped an internal laptop disc drive for an internal SSD drive and use the former with the usb external 'box' that came as a kit with the new SSD drive. The only criteria is to ensure that the drive draws no more than the maximum power output from the Humax usb port (without checking I think this is 800mW) otherwise you will need to use a powered usb port between the drive and the Humax. TV recording has been perfect.
PS there is a recent firmware upgrade for the Humax which you may want to try: http://beta.humaxonline.co.uk/freeview-hd-t2
      Regards, Albert.

      using supplied box and subscription

    2. The Humax Freeview HD Fox dos,nt have that feature, but is so easy to use, the picture quality is brilliant,Dowton Abbey comes into your living room !.
      Peter replied on

  3. do you need a satalite dish
    alan asked on
    1. not at all
      Gordon replied on

    2. No, this is a "Freeview" box which you use through your normal TV aerial, you can get a similar product for "Freesat". by-the-way I would recommend this product without reservation (Humax HD-FOX T2)
      William replied on

  4. hello, please advise me on the hdd size before i purchase one of these.
    john asked on
    1. The HD model has no hdd, but you can add an external usb drive. (the HDR model has hdd)
      Albert replied on

  5. can you get all the mbc chanals on hotbird 13digrees east and can i install it instead of the old reciever without any othed udjustments
    riad asked on
    1. My box is for freeview HD only. You need to ask someone who bought the Freesat box which is another model.
      Iain replied on

    2. The Humax HD-FOX T2 is for Freeview HD, you need to look at the "FreeSat" version.
      William replied on

  6. How to recording tv programmes on USB stick? Recently have over air upgraded but unable to record programme onto 8G USB stick (FAT 32) WHY? I'm able to view photos from usb stick. The Portable Hard Drive/usb stick does it need to specify TV recordable?
    yelis asked on
    1. You need to format your usb drive using the Humax. It is not FAT32!
      Albert replied on

    2. Sorry, I have no idea. My box is for HD only.
      Clem replied on

  7. Will this freeview plus box record if freeview is off air as does the sky+ box
    Daphne asked on
    1. Sorry I don,t know, mine does,nt record.
      Peter replied on

  8. Does the box stay on if left on? Can you select channels to change at specific times or set reminders which switch over so you can leave it unnattended. I've just been let down by a Goodmans HD box which switches off after 4 hours automatically with no option to dissable, so goes off losing the signal to my hard drive recorder.
    Ian asked on
    1. Hi, I only use the HD box to watch programes then and there, I leave the box on stand-by when I am not watching TV, I dont record programes.
      William replied on

  9. do you recieve any sports chnnels or sky sports news?
    bev asked on
    1. Sorry, I do not use sky, though the box will receive them if you do a manual tune.
      Albert replied on

  10. Is this box compatible with the Irish soarview service ( soar meaning free ). i ask this because of the specific DVB-T2 which is supposed to support the Irish version
    Eugene asked on
    1. I'm sorry but I can't help you with your query as I live in England. I would think that Humax customer services -uksupport@humax-digital.co.uk - should be able to help. I contacted them about a slight problem and they replied very quickly and it was easy to sort out.
      Philip replied on

  11. Can I get ITV player,4OD and 5 on demand on this system.
    Trevor asked on
    1. No - I think you need either to connect your PC to the TV or get a "smart" TV to do that. This box's function was limited to receiving Freeview and Freview HD.
      Howard replied on

  12. IS THIS RECORDER EASYTO USE~& I DONT NEED ANY EQIPMENT OTHER THAN THE RECORDER. IS THE HD EASY TO USE
    JAMES asked on
    1. You need to buy a hard disc to plug into it and to update the firmware, but otherwise simple to use. Look up avforums + device name for more info.
      Iain replied on

  13. How can I check which version the software is on my HD-FOX-T2 straight out of the box and after connecting to my TV and scanning in the channels from the LONDON area which gives good HD channels 'free'?
    BARRY asked on
    1. I'm sorry I can't answer your question about the software but it was easy to set up an I receive all the available freeview channels. The television I use with the Humax Receiver is not HD ready, so again I'm afraid I'm not much help. I had a minor problem which was easily solved when I spoke to someone at the Humax Call Centre at 0208 326 6000.
      Philip replied on

      have said.

  14. To watch in HD, does the broadcast channel need to be an HD one (like BBC HD)? Or can you see all Freeview channels in HD?
    Bern asked on
    1. The broadcast channel must be in HD
      John replied on

  15. HI WILL THIS BOX RECEIVE FREEVIEW CHANNEL161 UKRACING.

    RONALD asked on
    1. The channel is Racing UK on 116. It's a subscription channel, £20 a month. You require a broadband link to connect to the box. This model allows this however I have not found out how to access the channel and wonder whether you need the additional Top up TV box as well.
      Peter replied on

    2. Not in the area I live near Skipton, North Yorkshire
      Les replied on

    3. I have tried to get channel 161 but does not seem to be available its maybe a subscription channel
      Brian replied on

  16. We tend to get power cuts quite often and it is a pain having to retune & reenter
a timing schedule. Do you know if this machine retains these settings if power is lost?

Also, apparently we are now getting too much signal to our aerial so we really need to be able to manually tune only for the channels we need - does it allow manual tuning?

    Alan asked on
    1. Sorry, I've never had these problems. It automatically gets the time so I would imagine it will retain timings for recording.
There is a manual tuning option in the settings. That said, it has picked up over 170 stations - are you sure you need to manually tune?
