- Good points:
- Lots of features - more than you'll use. Good picture quality.
- Bad points:
- Very slow to browse TV listings. Overall, probably a little old and tired, as it has been available for a while now. Needs updating to have a faster user interface before I'd really recommend it.

Manufacturer's Description
The Humax FOXSAT HDR freesat satellite twin tuner personal video recorder is a new product supporting the BBC and ITV backed ‘freesat’ service. Freesat aims to deliver extra channel choice and High Definition programming – all with no expensive monthly subscription fee.
The Humax FOXSAT HDR has decoding for all existing freesat digital satellite channels (perfect for after the digital switchover), it also has the ability to decode channels transmitted in High Definition and output them via its HDMI connection. With dedicated HD channels already broadcasting from the BBC and ITV (with more set to join) there’s no better time to go ‘HD’. Freesat can also boast perfect reception across the whole of the UK as long as you have a correctly installed dish – perfect for the areas with poor traditional TV reception.
The FOXSAT HDR includes a huge 320GB hard disk drive and twin freesat tuners to allow easy recording of all your favourite standard or high definition programs. With the FOXSAT HDR you can watch one channel whilst you record a second channel or even record two different programmes at once! With the easy to use, full colour on-screen programme guide, favourite channel lists, HDMI connection (with upscaling for standard programming to 1080i or 720p) and a scart output the FOXSAT HDR is the perfect replacement for a Sky Plus box – without any monthly subscription fee at all.
Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Humax Foxsat-HDR
-
Can you buy top up channels I know that on freeview you can top up with sky sports one and two can it be done with free sat
-
I have never tried to buy top up channels with freesat but i think you can.
-
I have not tried to buy top ups, but I don't think you will be able to as it is not like sky and virgin. Beware if you subscribe to sky because when unsubscribe the box is useless, you will not be able to record or pause any programs.
-
I have never tried, sorry
-
-
Hello, can i use Humax Foxsat - hdr with my tv ariel, as i am receiving digital on my 32" samsung at the moment, with good picture quality.
-
The humax Foxsat is a freesat box (meaning free satellite) and as such will need to be connected to a satellite dish, it is not compatible with a normal terrestrial tv ariel.
-
you have to use a satellite dish to make a FREESAT box work
-
answer is in the name , satbox needs a sat dish.
-
-
Can you save recording onto a USB drive and watch them on a pc if so are the files avi
Thanks-
oops sorry cant answer that yet ... it does have a slot to connect a drive but the instruction booklet is not very clear on how you use it ... i tried connecting my usb hard drive to it and couldn't find a way to access it ... but this is probably because i've only had it for a short while ... however as a freesat box it's excellent ... but a bit slow to start up ... about te same time as my laptop ... about 1 min 30 ... hope you find the answer you are looking for.

what connectors do i need to connect dish cabels to humax 320 freesat
-
hi we had ours installed by tesco tech guys when we bought it from tesco regards dave
-
If you have a Dish already, then the standard conexions should be correct. I do not know what they are called.
However I had a someone out of the local newspaper do outs for £75. ( including the Sat Dish) -
Hi Frank, I used F connectors (twist on type) on my twin satellite cable, with an hdmi lead connecting the Humax box and the TV. I literally disconnected the twin cable from my sky box and reconnected them to the new Humax box. Should have done it years ago. No more expensive monthly payments to Rupert Murdoch's empire!

How do I connect my Sony surround system to my Freesat box
-
I have a home cinema sound system which I connected using the optical (SPDIF) sound connection. I don't know if your Sony system supports this method. If the surround sound system is part of your TV, I would think the scart would pick it up. Otherwise I would try the 'AUDIO' sockets on the back of the unit
-
Hi Tony, I have just purchased a Toshiba full hd lcd television and connected to my audio surround system using the stereo headphone socket. Now everything that I watch on tv is able to be amplified through my surround sound amplifier. I hope this is helpful. Happy listening Mike M

i have just bought a freesat hd recorder box to replace my sky hd box.
i have multi-room at the moment ,can i use my skybox in the second room using the new box. or will i need to buy another box-
Hi Bob
I am a bit confused, have you still got sky or have you cancelled, if you have cancelled, which I am presuming you have you can still use your sky box in another room but you will only get the free channels and will not be able to record.
I hope that helps, if you need anymore info please do.
thanks Pat

what arial do i have to have for the humax freesat box.and can i use my dvd recorder through it as well
-
A dish similar used as "SKY". On it you will have 4 connection at the LNB. You can use two of them.
2. On the Foxsat you have 2 scart connections, one of them can be used as a dvd recorder but why use it as the Foxsat has a built in recorder. -
Sorry, I can't really add anything to what Warren has said.
-
-
I have connected to my TV with an HDMI to DVI lead, and digital sound out to an A/V system, but when I select an HD channel I get no sound unless I use the audio list button and then have to have audio description! Anyone know why?
-
I don't have my tv set up like that, butI have a problem when I pause live tv and restart audio description comes I have to exit press ok before it goes off which is annoying.
-
-
i am thinking of buying one of these as have sky at moment and just keeps getting dearer can you tell me if you get about the same channel listing as you do with sky especially universal and living
-
Hi Julie, If you go to www.freesat.co.uk there is a full channel listing, you will not get the same listing as sky as once you have bought Humax box there is NO more expense and freesat are adding more channels all the time, Same as you with sky costs going up all the time and in my view will continue to go up (like everything else) all you pay for is your humax box and nothing else, very easy to install, the leads from the back of your sky box just go into the back of your humax box, you switch on and you are away, cannot recommend it highly enough, hope this helps, anything else please ask, kind regards, David
-
Hi Julie, I purchased the Foxsat-HDR in February and and am very pleased with it.Picture quality and colour is great and it is reasonably easy to use. You obviously won't get Sky 'Pay For' channels, but you get all the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 & 5 channels, and many more. I get over 130 TV channels and 39 radio channels. At the moment there are 3 HD channels-BBC HD, BBC1HD, and ITV1HD but, no doubt, more will follow.
The operation of the box has similarities to Sky, but it will require some adjustment. There has been a few irritations, but it's worth it, as you save those exorbitant Sky fees every month. I don't think you will regret getting one. Good luck
Ivor

what does a"DEVOLO dLAN 200AVPass Kit "do
-
its the same system as a home plug, rather than have wires running everywhere you use the electrical cablle in your home as an ethernet cable
I use a different one to this and it works just fine for bbc Iplayer
hope this helps
regards tony

-
does this box need 2 wires from the satalite dish to connect it or just the one? ie: a normal sky box uses one plug but the Sky+ uses 2.... i only have one lead from the dish to the box will i need another one added?
-
Hi there,I have the two lead version,as I had a sky plus box before,As you probaly no this is so you can record programmes.I`m sure it will work with just the one,but you won`t be able to record anything.I`m also sure to upgrade won`t cost a vast amount.(worth doing in my opinion)Kind Regards Simon.
-
Hi , you can use a single cable as the box has a loop back facility to connect the second connection, you will still be able to record a program but you will be restricted to what you are able to watch while you are recording. Regards Nigel.

-

-
