The battery lasts less than a day when the phone is used a lot - this seems to be common with all of my friends' HTC phones too. It also takes a while to get used to the completely different symbols

Size and weight - the phone is very compact and light for a smartphone.

Software runs very slowly and apps sometimes do not work properly due to the phones small processing power.

Bad points:
the screan slide doesnt work very often, so you can not answer the phone, ( this is from new ) , when opening texts, it tends to open ones you are not clicking on, so takes 3 or 4 attempts to open them, switiching off mode is very easy, switcheing on tho seems to take for ages, so you can not use the phone in a hurry, also sometimes sends texts twice, all in all touch screan is rubbish, slow & I would not recommend anyone getting an HTC if this wis what they are like

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the HTC Wildfire

  1. what is the camera on this phone? and also how many mega pixels has it got?
    kadie asked on
    1. it is a 5 megapixel camera with flash. the images on screen dont look too great but when downloaded to pc they are actually not bad. also records video
      rob replied on

  2. Is the screen really that bad and whats it like for texting. Button size etc. Im using a ipod touch for this and making mistakes left right and centre. Thanks matt
    Matt asked on
    1. having used the phone for a while now i can say the scren i pretty good. the texting is also really quick as it predicts the words. i can now text so much quicker than my old phone. i would never go back from a touchscreen now.
      rob replied on

  3. Can the wildfire access an internet connection without Wi Fi ?.
    Neil asked on
    1. yes. it is also quite quick. i am on 3 and never struggle to get an internet connection when i'm not at home
      rob replied on

  4. what is in the box
    jamal asked on
    1. you get the phone, sim cards and charger which also doubles as a usb to attatch it to th computer. also comes with a leather case and a pair of cheap headphones.
      rob replied on

  5. Is the short battery life a big problem and are there only a few apps for Android?
    Hannah asked on
    1. battery life is ok. i just get into the habit of charging it every night and it easily lasts all day. if u dont use the apps it lasts a couple of days. there are lots of apps but not all of them work with this phone i think its because an update is due soon which should help. games are too slow like angry birds is almost unusable. if u want it for games get a faster phone but all my other apps work well. there are lots of apps to choose from but most big companies like dominos pizza for example only do apps for iphones. hope this helps
      rob replied on

  6. does it have a memory card slot? and what is the internal memory? many thanks
    joy asked on
    1. it takes micro sd cards and comes with a 2gb memory card already in it.
      rob replied on

  7. would you recommend this as the best phone uv had
    sana asked on
    1. Hi Sana,
I think it probably is, seeing that I have never owned a 'smart phone' preivous to this one - loads a features and loads of free apps and widgets you can download for it. When I first got it, I was so overwhelmed by all the things it could do that I had to double check that it could actually make a phone call :]. The only thing I can think of bad about this phone is battery life, which i'm lucky to get 2 full days out of.
      Lewis replied on

  8. just bought the phone this afternoon, how do i find where to download free apps and apps store???
Quite impressed with it so far!
    Trude asked on
    1. On the main home page, click on the up arrow on the bottom left corner and select market to access the apps store
      Dave
      Dave replied on

    2. goto the market which can be found in your menu
      dave replied on

  9. How would you insert an sd card also what GB card does it come with
    Robert asked on
    1. If you take the back cover on the left hand side there is a little slot to the bottom left of the battery and it says micro SD put in there, to find out what size just ask in any computer store like pc world etc any more questions please feel free to ask x x
      Lewis replied on

  10. I'm planning to buy this phone.
    Can you tell me
    about the battery life ?
    ease of use?
    satheesh asked on
    1. Hiya, my battery lasts about a week if I only phone and text and take the odd photograph, I don't use it for surfing or social networking so I don't know how that affects it's life. I have worked out how to use the features I need without too much fuss, phonebook, camera, ringtone, volume etc - believe me if I can use it pretty much anyone can.
      Julie replied on

    2. battery depends on how much you use it, but i charge mine every other day. Ease of use is great, once you get used to touchscreen and flexibility.
      Neil replied on

    3. Hi satheesh
The battery life on the wildfire is not as good as some but ive found that i can get 2 days easy and still listen to loads of rock/metal albums.
As for ease of use i can only say that i made the change between a nokia n81 and the wildfire and at first i hated the thing but once i learnt how it worked
i would'nt be without it it'll do all i want and some.
I can say that if you buy one you need to get used to it by just messing with it and you find all sorts by getting it wrong i did lol.

  11. are there any bad things about the htc wildfire phone ?
    leander asked on
    1. No, There is not any bad about this phone. Its really good item and it is Wi Fi
      Rumaisa replied on

    2. If u want it for games it is too slow . However everything else is great . My friend was telling me all about his new 300 pound blackberry and it couldn't do half what mine does .
      rob replied on

  12. is htc wildfire good and easy to use and how is the battery life iff i wanted to listen to songs and use social network?
    jjj asked on
    1. its really good with a long battery life; and is very good for social networks. a very good bye you cant go wrong if you get one. i hope this helps you out
      lisa replied on

    2. Battery Life - I agree with Lisa's answer that the phone is very good in many ways, but I find the battery lasts two days, maybe a little less, which is fine if you have somewhere to recharge (and that doesn't take long).

Easy to use - If you have never used a HTC phone I promice you it will take a bit of getting use to, it's not that it is hard to use, it's just different.

      Have fun :]

  14. I'm thinking of buying this phone but what comes in the box? like the USB cable, earphones etc.. thanks :)
    Alex asked on
    1. Everything you need, earphones (but standard type so any you have will fit) the charger is a pretty standard connection, searched through all my USB connectors and now have a charger every where, for the record just got 2.2 firmware upgrade, the phone now rocks, it is a bit slower to power up, but is much quicker and all round excellant, seriously and honestly, it is compact, fast, does the job with its features, but as with all smaller phones and older people with fat fingers difficult to type fast LOL, I truely can't find a fault with, prior to this I had a Samsung Galaxy S (stolen) considering the size I think I have been lucky!
      Baz replied on

  15. Hi all,
This phone looks gorgeous and perfect for what I am looking for. Just a few questions:
    - does it come with speaking sat nav like nokia?
    - does it open email attachments easily like iphone (boo!!)?
    - t9 text? does it make its own words up? is it 'clever' and saves most frequently used words at front of the t9 option?
    - can it receive and send large rambling texts in one go and not in seperate messages like i phone?
    - does it crash, freeze and reset itself for no good reason?

as you may be able to tell, i currently have a nokia, mainly for free sat nav and its great. but my nokia keeps crashing, freezing and resetting itself for no good reason and its getting worse. my sister has iphone and it looks great, can open emails and attachments in jpg, pdf and word with no probs. brothers blacberry is the same. my nokia is pants at email attachments.
i am anti igadgets and also dont like qwerty on blackberry!
htc wildfire has caught my eye.
oh, and does it sync easily with gmail, calendar and contacts?
would be great to have a better phone than blackberry and iphone. sibling rivalry! ;p
any comments would be much appreciated!
    thanks :) x

    gen asked on
    1. yes to all. thats all i can say one of the best phones on the market i think. ive had no probs with it . just set it up to your specs and you;ll be fine. i hope this helps you out. go out and get one
      lisa replied on

    2. Hello Gen I hope these answers are what your looking for :] :

Sat Nav? - I know that it doesn't come with one out of the box, although saying that there could be a chance that you may be able to purchase and download one from the android marketplace, although don't hold me to that.

Email Attachments? - Having never owned and iPhone (mainly for the same reason as you ^^) nor opened an email attachment from one I couldn't comment. However having opened attachments on the Wildfire I can say that it is extreamly easying - I have viewed PDF's, pictures in various formats and even viewed some of my coursework in microsoft word format.

Does it crash? - Having owned it for a couple of months - no, it hasn't ever given me any issues in this department.

Syncing of Gmail, contacts? - I couldn't believe how easy this was, in fact I think it was an option during the starting setup of the phone, it will even sync contacts from your facebook account (along with their pictures!) depending on if they have put down a phone number or not. Same applies for the calender, with people's birthdays and calender events in Gmail.

This was my first smart phone so I was a little over whelmed with what it could do, which left me wondering why I hadn't got one to begin with!

      Hope this helps :]

  16. Can you use the HTC Wildfire as a modem for a laptop ?
    Peter asked on
    1. don't know never used. but its good item
      Rumaisa replied on

    2. Yes you can however some networks like mine ( I'm on 3 ) won't let you do it . They would rather you buy A dongle instead . To be honest though I have never tried it so you may be able to find a way to do it. Hope this helps .
      rob replied on

    3. Most mobile phones will allow access as a modem, but this can work out very expensive. Better to look for free wifi access or use a dedicated dongle for the laptop.
      Norman replied on

  17. Hi again,

    more questions!

what is the standard keyboard? qwerty or t9? if qwerty, is there a t9 available as an original phone option or an app?
some say yes, some say no - as standard, is there speaking sat nav on the phone?

thanks again for any answers :)

    gen

    gen asked on
    1. There is a qwerty keyboard on it, which has predictive text on it, which is really good. If its not turned on, touch MENU, touch SETTINGS, touch LANGUAGE & KEYBOARD, touch TOUCH INPUT, touch PREDICTION.
Ive not found a speaking sat nav on it, unless there is an app for it.

    1. it depends what you want out ov the phone we have two ov these phones in the family and they cover everything that you want
      dave replied on

    2. Never owned a Blackberry, would ask you, what do you want it for? if it is dedicated business and you have the servers and contract for email etc, then Blackberry, if it is for you to receive email, facebook, gmail etc, then this is a really good phone
      Andrew replied on

  19. can it get i tunes , 100,000 radio stations . and 2 mil records , then transfer to my computer , and the (sonos) multi room music system , which requires a remote control at £300 or an i phone to work it , is the h t c on 3 g , that is not in my airear, will it correct my spelling on texting , when you say apps what do you mean . as i presume your want apps is not like mine , and im 74 so am not clued up on all this new gizmo stuff . thanks RON.
    ron asked on
    1. Hello Ron,

I hope these answers are what you are looking for:

Itunes - ITunes is an Apple product, therefore to my knowledge access to the iTunes market place will require you buying an iPhone/iTouch.

Radio stations - It comes with a built in FM radio, but you are also able to download access to other radio stations from the Android market place on the phone yes.

In regards to your '2 million records, being able to transfer them to your computer and then accessing them from Sonos', all i'm able to say about that is there is a program called Spotify that is avalible to be downloaded from the Android market place, which covers all those needs.

The HTC is on 3G as far as I know and texting is able to be set up in such a way that will allow you to be corrected on spelling.

By 'apps' I mean applications, pieces of software that you can download from the Android marketplace or transfer from your computer. They allow the phone to run certain tasks, some of these cost money, others are free. There are literally thousands of applications with new ones being added all the time, from games to a guitar tuner to ordering your shopping online!

I think I covered everything, please don't hesitate to ask more questions if you need to, i'll be happy to reply as soon as possible :]

  20. If I was on PAYG with no internet access, could I surf the web from a wi-fi hotspot? or will I need to upgrade my PAYG to include web access?
    Angus asked on
    1. You can use WiFi whenever its available . I often use it in hotels and restaurants for example . I do find my 3g internet excellent. though. I am on 3 and it is very rare I do not have the highest speeds available .
      rob replied on

    2. the HTC has wifi built in and you can connect to any wifi network. I use the wifi when I am at home to surf the net as I have wifi and have used various locations with free wifi also. No need to upgrade.
      Norman replied on

  21. Hi i was interested in buying the HTC wildfire. Could you tell me if the google maps are free to use and if they come preinstalled
    Usman asked on
    1. Google maps are free to use depending on your tariff. Mine didnt come preinstalled, but was free from the android market

  23. Does the Angry Birds run better on the 2.2 upgrade or is it still pretty poor for that? I am really keen on getting one but it's the problem getting some app's and getting things like this to work that is putting me off. Please reassure me so I can take the plunge!!!
    Julie asked on
    1. Unfortunately angry birds doesn't run any better on 2.2 it is still too slow and jerky . If u are going to play games then the desire is much better or obviously the iPhone is in a totally different league . But for all other apps such as jogging apps or diet tracker etc speed is not an issue and I never have a problem with them working, I think games struggle due to differences in screen resolution which is not an issue with other apps . The phone suits my needs perfectly but obviously u get what u pay for . If u think u may regret not being able to play games then I would invest in more powerful model. Hope this helps .
      rob replied on

    2. Yes I agree with rob totaly any fast moving games are
not great havent tried angry birds but some are a bit on the ragged edge as far as the resolution goes. Having said that everything else ive done with my wildfire is exellent wouldnt be without it ,for the price its a good smartphone, love the apps ive downloaded so far loads of fun.

  26. is tesco network anygood
    mary asked on
    1. The signal strength seems to be excellent, I used to be on Orange and was happy with it even though I couldn't get a signal in my local Tesco!!
Now I'm on Tesco Mobile " Touch wood" I have always been able to use the phone wherever I've been and I've never had a call drop. The only bad thing so far is that they haven't tripled my credit yet as they advertise to do, maybe it's something I haven't done I'm not sure but it's left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth if you know what I mean.
      Julie replied on

    2. Agree Julie, but I think it is because Tesco triple\double points\credit is quite a complicated process. I rang them was on the phone 25 mins, and at the end still got it wrong, but did get triple points and credit! but dont understand how (to afriad to ask how in case they say it is a mistake and take it back :) )
Tesco network uses 02 and I have no problem with it, I work in the South West, and have a gay phone (iphone) as a work phone on Vodaphone, never get a signal on that, yet Tesco\02 always does. hope this helps, by the way, I do find tesco very friendly on the phone, and always ready to help.
      Andrew replied on

  27. ok i pick up my phone next week from tesco. its tesco phone to. can i put the tesco chip from my old phone to my new phone as it has all my phone numbers on it
    clifford asked on
    1. Yes I think so

  28. People are giving different opinons on the battery life sutuation. Does it last only one day? 2 days? or longer?

If you listen to music for around 30 minutes time a day and also use the apps for around the same time, Would you need to re-charge the phone everynight?
    ryan asked on
    1. Yep. It depends, I turn on the internet when I want to use it, and turn it off when I'm finished. when I kept the internet on (I think it checks your email every 15 mins), I read the news on the BBC app for half an hour, I texted a few people, had a 15 min phone call, and by 7pm I was out of battery. Not good. Now I have it off it’ll last about a day and a half, so I charge it every night.
      Jane replied on

    2. The battery life will depend on your usage, 4 to 6 hours constant use will use over 60% of battery life gone. But as I have access to a laptop I just connect it to that and keep the battery topped up. I have downloaded a battery check app and monitor the battery that way. lots of apps to check, reduce or save your battery. overall your not using it when asleep so keep it on charge.

    1. I'm not too sure cos I don't use the earphones much but I think it is the standard fit
      shameem replied on

    1. The only thing that lets the phone down is the battery life, its not good. Do what i do and put in on charge when you go to bed. Good points, you can get some grt apps, facebook & twitter are fab. Very easy to use, great alternative for an iphon e.

  35. Just wondering what the Durability on this phone is like, would things like the occasional drop or knock damage the screen or any other part(s).
Is it vulnerable to water damage e.g, some phone can have water damage from just being in a damp area.

And just generally how long lasting is it ?
    sebastian asked on
    1. It seems to be quite robust. I don't put it in my pocket with keys or anything that may scratch it and I also haven't dropped it yet . But it hasn't got a single scratch yet . I also use it outside in the rain with no problems. Mines got to last 2 years so I am being a bit extra careful but as long as u aren't careless it show/d be fine.

    Bob asked on
    1. Hello Bob,
I can't say I agree with the Tesco salesman and personally I wouldn't just take his word word for it. If you really would like to purchase this phone maybe ask around on some of HTC forums about the software on the wildfire.

Sorry I am unable to offer better advice, but I can't say i've experienced any kind of software problems during my ownership of the phone. :]
      Lewis replied on

I really like the look of this phone but at the moment i'm using the Samsung Tocco and love it, I don't use it for internet or web things just for phoning and texts but would love to get into all this apps stuff, is it worth changing?
    Wendy asked on
    1. Hello Wendy,
Is it worth changing? It depends, first of all, are you on a contract plan that allows internet useage, because if not prepare to spend alot of money. Personally I don't see what the big fuss is with apps I think its just an excuse for people to be on thier phones more. But why not? The upgrade is worth it just for the change of technology in phones, but I wouldn't recomend this phone purely for the access to mobile applications - i'd research and look around more :]
      Lewis replied on

    2. You have to use the internet for all of the apps so you would have to use the net. I had the tocco for a while and this one is far more reliable as well. My tocco broke after a small fall as well.

I'm pretty sure the obvious reply is gonna include the word 'Mozart' in it but maybe this 'Wildfire' can help?
    Andrew asked on
    1. Hi Andrew,

It is entirely dependant upon what size of micro SD card you can fork out for, I believe the wildfire is able to support cards upto 32GB meaning the technically it would have four times as much storage as your N95. It, however, only had 100MB of internal storage. So the choice is yours.

    1. Its very similar to the iphone if you've neve seen one before, but dont fear for there is a very simple tutorial when first turning on the phone which tells you the basics of how to use it.. as for apps thats purely up to how you want to use your phone whether you enjoy playing games ect.. or you are like me and download things like Google maps(which i think is on it to begin with) to help you with general everyday things and don't worry you cant really go wrong with downloading the wrong ones because generally most apps are free anyway.

    1. you do need to charge it every day if you use the internet alot, if you dont then it is ok for a couple of days.

Also it has an 'Android Market' on the menu and it is where you get apps from, there are three categories; top paid, top free and just in.
I get all my apps from the free section and there are thousands to choose from. The only thing with the free ones is there is usually an advertisment on one side.

    1. I chose the wildfire mainly because of the price or i would have chose the htc desire which has a better screen resolution, otherwise its mainly the same.
I have not been disapointed its a really good quality smart phone i would recommend this phone. Htc all the way....

  94. Is this phone worth the money :)
    Meg asked on
    1. I didn't actually have to pay for it as such as i have it on contract however in the time i have had it i am discovering lots of new things i can do with it (it has a flashlight which has come in handy! new apps to download etc....) and i do think that for the £100 odd it sells for is worth it as a cheaper alternative to the I-Phone. It is just as sleek and i think the apps are just as good.
      Nicola replied on

    2. Hi Meg, yes I definitely think this phone is worth the money. It is easy to use and has many great features like the radio, great maps, amazon kindle +(check out teeter for a great game to pass a few spare minutes!) Camera quality is also good as is the camcorder. With email and internet access its got many of the same features as an iphone but at a more reasonable price. I love mine and am more than happy to recommend it.

  95. i really like the htc wildfire and im going to get one although have to wait a couple of weeks (ie birthday) i wanted to get the blackberry but the htc seems so much better, the camera ie 5mp and with it having google maps etc on it, everybody seems to have wicked reviews towards it on here only problem is orange seems to be more expensive straight from shop than say phones 4 u or carphone warehouse, phones 4 u is £149.99 or on o2 its 20 quid cheaper but id prefer to stay with orange

my main question is the signal, does everybody here get good 3g signals etc?

    1. I have had a HTC for a few weeks now and am on TMobile (which shares signal with Orange)..... reception has been faultless so far. Signal no problem.

    george asked on
    1. Hi George. I think the battery can last 2 days under ideal conditions. So if all power use is minimised, you may get 2 days. Personally, I find it normally lasts less than 1 day..that's probably with too many apps etc running/internet usage etc.

  104. I understand that with the most up-to-date software version the phone acts as a wifi hotspot for up to 5 devices. This sounds great but I read somewhere that 3 do not allow it on their network as they'd rather u bought a dongle- Can you tell me if this is true and also if it is possible to use this facility on O2 and Orange. (Still trying to decide which network to go on...)

I would be buying this originally from the Orange website as I have £45 accumulated in my Orange Phone Fund so if I DID decide to get it unlocked and go to O2 or Three network would I still be able to update software in the future?

    1. I think the screen is great!
In terms of resolution it's very crystal clear and attractive. In terms of responsiveness, the screen is very good, however, I do prefer the iPhone's screen, but the screen on the HTC Wildfire is very very good and I have encountered absolutely no problems with it whatsoever.
      Tommy replied on

    2. Yeah, the resolution of the Wildfire's screen is a bit less detailed than the Desire. Pictures look better on the computer than on the Wildfire, as the quality of the screen is a little cheap.

    Beth asked on
    1. Yeah, the keyboard is laggy, slow, glitchy and quite often freezes.
      Will replied on

    2. I found no problems with the keyboard, but I changed from the standard keyboard to the one displaying two characters on the same key (this might sound crazy, but because the keys are larger you are less likely to hit the wrong key). The phone also has a form of predictive text that takes some of the hard work out of texting or e-mailing.

I use my phone at home on a wireless broadband connection, so do not suffer the problems associated with 3G, but I find it quite adequate for its intended purpose.

As for being slow or freezing, I have not had any problems so far.

If you have any further enquiries, I am only too happy to answer them.
      Christopher replied on

    kerrie asked on
    1. I would suggest taking it into a mobile shop eg carphone warehouse or orange/vodaphone shop and asking them. Finding anything online is a nightmare. You could try trying HTC Wildfire owners manual into the Google search engine but you need a degree in space research and design just to decipher the website. Ask an expert in a mobile phone store is your best bet for a straight answer.

    2. Heya. Well there are plenty of games to download for free and ones you have to pay for, as you can search in the Android market. Most games work very well, however I have the Angry birds game and that is quite slow on this phone, you can play it perfectly well, it just takes a little time when you fling the bird! The Iphone is much quicker on that game! This phone can lag (take time) when your playing fast, quick games. But, overall it does play games well, but if you want to play games like how the Iphone plays them, then you might want to consider looking at a better HTC phone that has a fast processor, as I don't think this phone has a processor, which is why its slower! I hope this helps.

I wanted the samsung galaxy s as my friend has one and it's lovely but i can't get it on the price i'm currently paying which is £15 a month and don't really want to be paying much more than that. I've been looking at the wildfire and the desire but not sure which to go for? Which would you recommend and why and which network offers the best value for money?
    Michaela asked on
    1. Wow, that's quite a question. My first HTC Wildfire was on 3. £20 per month 5k texts 600 mins and 1GB download. I still have that one but the signal here in Southampton is rubbish so I bought the new one on Tesco and have no regrets. Signal is great and with the current triple credit deal on PAYG I am paying £15 pcm for £45 worth of calls and texts. There are text/call bundle offers available but with the free credit deal I doubt you will need it. £5 buys you a 5k text bundle if you decide you need it. Hope that helps. Good luck. Dave

    1. The apps are from the Android market and there is an Android version of most Apple apps that are available on an iPhone. The only thing with game apps that require fast movement are that they appear a bit sluggish. The apps differ in download times depending on the size but most are small and take around 30 secs.

    1. Depending on your broadband inbox provider there may be an app that you can download that enables you to access your email. For example, yahoo mail has an app that allows you to access your inbox straightaway. However, my broadband provider is Virgin Media and they don't have an app, so what I have to do is bookmark Virgin Media ans this enables me to access my inbox that way. Hope this helps.

    1. Hello
I would recommend this phone and I haven't yet noticed it becoming slow, in fact it can be too fast but that is the touchpad being too sensitive. The only major problem is the very short battery life, sometimes needs doing daily!

I cant decide between a samsung galaxy ace or htc wildfire?
Samsung galaxy ace has a fast processor(800mghz) so I can play lots of games yet the htc wildfire is really good for messaging and is nicely set out.
    Finley asked on
    1. That would depend on if you play more games than texting or chatting , the wildfire is better for texting and chatting it is also good for gaming . In my opinion the samsung is the superior phone but the wildfire is the better of the two

    2. I have not used the Samsung before so cannot really comment. I can say that I am very happy with my Wildfire after a month or so's use. The only drawback is that the battery doesn't last all that long and so I have been charging every 1-2 days, but I gather that all smartphones are a bit like this (until better batteries are developed)

    1. Well there is a new Wildfire S available now - the old model I reviewed has finished. The Wildfire S has a better screen than the Wildfire but fewer colours. For games - processor speed yes but the pixel count for the screen will be important too.The decision rests on what you will use your phone for mostly - gaming or social networking. The HTC software with the phones is very comprehensive and is a big reworking of the Android platform.

I have got two questions for you:

Does instant messaging come with the htc wildfire s already or do you have to buy it as an app and does the instant messaging look like the one on the iphone?

I am also thinking of getting this phone so do you think it is worth all the money for this phone or do you think will be a waste?
    Finley asked on
    1. Hi Finley, the Wildfire comes with loads of apps already loaded and this includes the "Talk" app. This appears to be an IM'ing package through google mail. I haven't used the service myself so I'm unable to make any judgements on it. Unfortunately I have never owned an Iphone so I can't tell you if its the same IM app. AS for the phone being worth it, in my opinion the answer is a positive yes. My only Caveat would be to check from who/where you purchase it, (see my comments re buying from the Orange shop).

They do all sorts of things in different ways so changing later would be difficult. Android sell more devices now than iPhones. In the box:- Quick start guide, charger, USB cable to plug into either the charger or to connect to computer.

Will there be a problem if I buy the phone from Tesco as I see it is on sale at the moment? I do not use my mobile very often and then mainly for sending texts. I would like to use the phone for apps, surfing the web from home and occasionally when on the move. Would Pay as you go be a better deal for me or would you recommend a contract? I would like to stay with Orange broadband
    Janet asked on
    1. Janet, I can't answer the technical stuff but using the Wildfire has been easy. I'm a pensioner too and it hasn't been as difficult as I thought it would be. It picked up my home wifi immediately and shows you when you can use wifi instead of the mobile network to access the internet.
The camera is a real boon, I love it, good quality and it was fairly straightforward to download the pictures to my laptop using the USB cable.
I got mine through T-Mobile cos it was cheapest at the time and I wanted to ensure I had some technical support on hand which has been essential for things like setting up an email account so you can get them on your phone as well - very handy - and there is much I could be doing with it but as I don't need I'm only using what I want.
All in all though I've been impressed with the Wildfire, one of my better buys.
Good luck and have fun with which ever one you go for.

    1. Andriod comes with a Map App as standard which is ok for satnav use I have used it a couple of times and its pretty easy to use and has got me to my destination. With orange you do also get the orange sat nav app pre installed which is also just as good, so a bit of choice. No where near the same standard as a proper tom tom or sat nav but does the job. Just be warned it drains the battery BIG TIME!
      Ash replied on

I have had no problem with it running slowly and yes the screen did freeze once...few days after I bought it but no trouble since and I ve had it now for about 6 weeks
      Katy replied on

    2. I use it mainly for phone calls and photos so it's a shame that the camera is so poor.
I think the reason the battery life seems poor is that I do tend to spend a lot of my work time in areas with little or no signal so the poor thing is constantly hunting for a signal!
So far it hasn't frozen on me.
I use a GPS app. to find relative altitudes and it hasn't let me down in that respect.
The camera is supposed to be 5 Meg but the lens is so poor it struggles to give me decent detail.

Some say you have to switch just about everything off to preserve your data usage and not go over your limit which seems pointless in getting a smart phone if this is the case but my son and my boss say they leave theirs on all the time and don't use much data at all! I would like to be able to check Facebook during the day but would use WiFi at home. Help!
    Vikki asked on
    1. Hi. This phone allows you to move icons around, and I have both wi-fi and mobile internet icons on my home screen making it really easy to switch on/off whenever I want. I think most high data usage comes from downloads and things like YouTube rather than general browsing. If u are only using for a few pages each day, I doubt you have much cause for concern.

Does it still have the friends stream page when it is on orange or not? and what has the orange operating system change if anything.

    1. If you mean can you import your own message sound , then yes, I believe you can. I believe you cannot have different message alert sounds for different people. You can, of course, set different ringtones for different people. Is that what you meant?

    1. I was lucky enough to buy whilst Tesco direct had a 2 for 1 promotion on vouchers and have used my previous SIM card which was set up for Vodaphone pay as you go.

Guess for you it depends on the relative rates you get from each compared to your useage.
      Vodaphone is fine for me.

    1. Hi I have both HTC Wildfire and BlackBerry Torch 9810.
HTC is much smaller and lighter.
I got my HTC Wildfire from www.T-mobile.co.uk at very good price.
My friend has a white HTC wildfire and to be honest it looks quite good, but i wouldnt get it myself.
I like HTC much much much more! Keep having problems with my BlackBerry and its quite difficult to use - not like HTC so simple.

Even though I have both I use HTC as my main phone.

    barry asked on
    1. Yes you will definitely need an internet connection. If you haven't got a free allowance with your phone contract package ,you may be able to buy a 3G data bundle from your mobile phone network provider. My Tesco /02 provider charges £4 per week. You will find that most of the the other apps won't need an internet connection, but Sat Nav definitely does. Regards,

    1. I have had my HTC Wildfire for about 7 months now. I am about to sell it on ebay as I have found a few things that I don't like about it. Also I have just bought a tablet and no longer need to strain with the small screen to surf the net when I am away from my pc. I found the same with messages I had to download a proper loud Nokia alert . Unless you have tiny fingers texting won't be easy. I found it difficult answering the phone and would touch the wrong part of the screen and loose the call. I hope I haven't put you off too much. Regards,

    1. It's a decent phone. The only real negative is the battery life as you'll need to charge the phone daily
      Colin replied on

    2. It is a good phone, easy to use once you get used to it, and the battery life depends what you're doing with it, if you're on the internet a lot (or play a lot of Angry Birds like I do haha) then you will probably need to charge it every night, however, just with normal call and text useage, you'll get about 3 days off a charge. I'd recommend the phone as it looks stylish and is easy to use with good sound quality for playing music/videos etc.

    1. I don't know anything about a 'chat thingy'; you can lock the phone with a PIN; the battery is very poor and I would not recommend the phone for that reason. When you consider any phone disregard the suppliers estimate of the battery life and check on the web for independent reviews.

I really want this phone, but I'm just making sure. :3
    Emily asked on
    1. Can you turn predictive text off?

I just had a look and couldn't see how to turn the predictive text off but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

      Can you do threaded messaging/im?

      Yes

How good is the facebook messaging app?

I use FB quite a lot, however due to how I have my phone set up (screen shuts off if not used for a certain time) I am forever having to go through the site and back to the chat, sometimes the messages come through as chat and other times as an inbox message but that may not be due to the actual phone, it could be FB.

Which company is best to get it on?

I'm not sure, in hindsight I probably would have bought the phone outright from elsewhere rather than getting it free with the contract and maybe stayed with PAYG as there seems to be a lot of really good deals lately.

      I hope this helps.

    1. I am with T Mobile I get free internet, unlimited texts and 100 minutes talk time for £15.32 per month. This plan offers everything I want. I could change to more talk time and less texts, but that would not suit my requirements. The phone is 'ace'.

  230. Hi im thinking of getting this phone however the only thing that puts me of is the qwerty key pad can you change this to the standard key pad like other touch screen phones??
    Mark asked on
    1. Hi.

Yes, you can change the keyboard settings so it is like a normal phone keyboard.

This phone was good in the beginning but it has started to play up. Both my friend and I are experiencing the same things - clicking on a message and another message coming up. It takes a long time to load an incoming message. The phone is quite slow in general and it lags a bit when playing games.

I still get by with it, and it's really good for the price but if you can afford to get something a bit better then I would consider getting a slightly better phone for the long run.

Will it do all those things in reasonable speed? Cause I've been looking for a new one since my old nokia died... how does it compare?
    Kat asked on
    1. It does everything you mention really well, good speed and very easy to do these things. The only thing I will say is the htc camera is not very good at all, it really isnt a phone for decent pictures, so I would compare this before buying. If pictures arent a main thing for you then this phone is great, I have no other issues other than camera quality.

  239. Two questions please:

I use predictive text but my Samsung drives me mad as it won't let me add words to the dictionary - does this?

Does it have a flashlight for the camera?

    Thanks
    Jinty asked on
    1. it's a yes to both these questions. Using predictive text on the wildfire, if you type a word that it does not recognise it simply highlights the word in question and
'places a "?" at the end. If you then touch the highlighted word it accepts this a permission to use the word in your current text and stores it in it's memory for future use. As for the camera, you can choose to turn the flash on/off or use the "auto" setting that lets the camera decide depending on the light hitting it's own light sensor. Hope this is helpful

  240. i am thinking of bying this phone and i have quite big fingers. i am wondering is iteasy to text on and is it abit out of date to get one now as they are quite old ??
    Charlotte asked on
    1. No,certainly not out of date and I have big fingers and find it very easy to text :-)

    2. When I bought this phone I had already decided that using the screen keyboard might be difficult - in practice once you learn to type placing the ball of your finger on the key all goes quite well. The predictive text is more of a problem if you do not watch it & it may be choosing words for you that make a tweet goobledigook.

I did purchase a stylus from Amazon very cheaply and use one of those and I think this might be the solution for you.

    clifford asked on
    1. Hi Clifford,
The following is from the online manual and hope it helps. I have also copied the link to the manual, which is very good.

      1. From the Home screen, press menu button (3 parallel lines), and then tap Settings > Language & keyboard > Touch Input.

      2. Tap Keyboard types, and then select the keyboard layout that you want to use.
      Choose one from the following:
Standard This layout is similar to a desktop computer keyboard. This is the
      default keyboard layout.
Phone This layout resembles the traditional mobile phone keypad.
Compact This layout features two letters on each key. The key size is slightly
bigger than on the Standard layout.

    2. music can be downloaded to your phone using your computer and the 'HTC sync' when you have the music on your phone, press the menu button it will ask you whether you want to use it as a ring tone and whether you would like to use it as a general tone or for an individual contact.

  259. is the battery life really that bad ?
    hannah asked on
    1. When new it was awful, less than a day, but it does get better. What we have found is that if we charge it using the laptop connection via the USB cable it will last longer than when using the mains charger. The difference being 2 days instead of 1-1/2 days.
The only reason I can think of is the USB trickle charges the battery (it takes longer to charge).
Having said that the phone itself is very good - brilliant camera and video.
