Good points:
Its extremely easy to use, all functions are easy to follow, its just so easy to get to know your camera, it has a few extra functions that my XS200 dos'nt have which makes going from framed pictures to moving pictures without having to change.
Bad points:
On and off button a bit to small or in the wrong place, if you have long nails or big fingers its a bit of a struggle to turn it on, but thats all.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
This is an easy to use camera which gives good results in even quite poor light. Excellent focusing system.
Bad points:
Although the screen is large, the image does not fill the screen so it might as well be smaller (I ordered it for the bigger screen!) I also feel that this camera needs a viewfinder - used in bright light, it's quite difficult to see the screen.

Powerful and user friendly, the smart Canon PowerShot SX 210 IS boasts a staggering array of features for such an affordable price. This sleek digital compact camera combines the power of 14.1 megapixels with a sensational zoom, high definition (HD) movie mode and the ability to have complete creative control over your images – and it’s one of the cheapest and best of its kind on the market, with no compromise on quality.

Superbly detailed images can be enlarged to large sizes without any reduction in image quality, thanks to its 14.1 megapixel sensor.

In addition to the powerful 14x zoom lens, which brings distant subjects into clear view, the compact body of the Power-shot SX210 IS houses Canon’s fast-acting DIGIC 4 processor which supports a wide range of ultra-handy photographic functions to make taking great pictures easy.

For example, the SX 210 has Smart Auto to choose optimal camera settings by matching what it sees in the frame to one of 22 different scene types. While Easy mode gives the option of truly fuss-free point-and-shoot, more experienced users can set it to Full Manual control mode and take creative control over their photography. Fish-eye effect is an added feature on this versatile compact digital camera.

The SX-210 also boasts optical image stabilisation to combat the camera-shake which can cause image blurring, particularly at high zoom.

If it’s perfect pictures of friends, family and loved ones you want, the super smart Face Detection Technology adjusts the settings and focus to deliver perfect group shots. The ingenious Smart Shutter mode lets you trigger the shot remotely by either winking, smiling, or when a new face enters the frame!

You can shoot clear, bright images in dim conditions thanks to the built-in i-Contrast feature, which reproduces the details in areas of highlight and shadow to give a truer view of what the human eye can see.

The Power Shot SX-210 features a large, wide aspect 3.0” LCD screen for easy framing and review of images and also shoots breathtaking widescreen (16:9) high definition (HD) movies at 30 frames per second in stereo sound, with an HDMI output for convenient connection to an HD television. The bright LCD screen is also perfect for shooting and playback of high definition movies in wide format.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS

  1. Stupid asks "How do I Download from mu SX210 to a external Harddrive"
    Dave asked on
    1. If your PC/ laptop has a card reader, you van simply insert your memory card into the card reader slot and download your material. If not, you need to use your interface cable. attache the USB side to your computer and the other side to the AV OUT DIGITAL on the right hand side of your camera. Hope this helps.
      Arash replied on

  2. is this camera any good in low light conditions, eg concerts?

    thanx
    b asked on
    1. sorry - not tried it at a concert but outside with a flash it was quite good.
      Elaine replied on

  3. I am intending to buy a Canon Powershot SX210 IS but wonder if there is a printed
basic instruction manual in the box as well as the full CD?
    Jim asked on
    1. Yes there is but I think it is too basic - you would be
better off experimenting as I believe you will find it a
joy all the same and not particularly essential to be
      reliant.
      Ian replied on

  4. Does the screen stay little on the screen when u are taking photos or can u make it go full screeen.
    dan asked on
    1. No. That's a problem here. I always have a black margin on the side of the screen.
      Arash replied on

  5. Can the battery be charged in camera via the USB socket? This is very important when out and about, particularly when I have supplementary USB battery.
Does it have manual focus? Very useful when photographing the moon.
    Brian asked on
    1. I have not come across any of these either in the manual or working with the camera. I much doubt if the camera does this at all.

      Arash replied on

  6. hi, what is the video quality like? is it hd? does the flash work when making a video?
    thanks
    emily asked on
    1. Hi, there.
Its vido is better than photo. usually, the video is clear . However, the quallity of photoes are always very stuggle which make me a little upset. and there is no card and bag for the camera if you don't buy the conbination.
The flash work is manual control.

      JIE replied on

  7. I am looking to update my digital camera to a canon and this one seems the best seen although drawn to Nikon. Do you know if it is good for clos up macro and how close does it go?
    Clare asked on
    1. Once focusing has been understood and tweaked thereafter (in menu make sure that focus mode is not set
on at continuous and servo ).
Do not be too tempted to over use digital zoom.
AF frame should be set to centre and AF frame size set to normal.

      Ian replied on

  8. What is the battery life like? How many pictures do you get from each charge?
    Tammy asked on
    1. I didn't pay much attention how many pics I can take, but it is true that the battery life is not bad. Coz even I take video, it can also keep long enough. Seriously, the battery is alright. Just the quality of pics is stuggle sometimes. However, the video is much better. ..

  10. Hi is this full HD 1080 video ready and also does it have wireless capability?
    Karen asked on
    1. No, it has no wireless...And whether is it full HD, I am not sure. Maybe you can reference the data which presented. But one thing I want to say is the quality of video is okay, better than the photoes.
      JIE replied on

  11. Can I charge the battery via usb ?
    Richard asked on
    1. The charger is linked to a 3 pin power source - no evidence of being able to use a USB
      Ian replied on

  12. Hi is the quality of the camera any good for concerts or low light condition.. this is very important to me.. thanks
    Esther asked on
    1. I found when I take pictures in night the quality is better than I take in days. That's a problem for me. But it may be okay for you as you request.
By the way, the quality of video is better than pictures. I feel struggle when I want to take a HD pic in days...upset me
      JIE replied on

3)Battery Pack NB-5L(E) (with Terminal Cap)
    4)Battery Charger CB-2LXE

    8)User Manual Kit
    Boon asked on
    1. Other than the CD for the software package - I believe you have listed all the equipment that was in the box
      Peter replied on

  15. Sorry, this is a stale question, but its very important for me to know.

Under dim light conditions, say a cloudy and gloomy evening, does this camera make bright outdoor photos without the flasher? Is there a light sensitive mode in this camera for such conditions?

Do you think there is a big difference between the HS and IS range of cameras in this regard?

I want to buy a high resolution camera with a good optical zoom that works well under dim light conditions as well. SX210 is my affordable choice, but I'm worried about the last feature because the camera description does not mention anything about this.
    Please help clear my doubt.
    Thanks.

    Deepani asked on
    1. HI, I have no knowledge to compare it with the other one, but to my surprise it makes quite nice pictures without flash when the light is poor. Off course there will be some grain in extreme condition, but it's much better than in old powershot camera I used before... I hope that helps ;-)

  16. i just want know overall how is performance and is it a value for the money?
    Emmanuel asked on
    1. The performance is excellent, very easy to use. At £179 I think it is good value
      John replied on

  17. Is this a good camera for taking action shots or can you recommend another camera?
    Paula asked on
    1. Sorry - not experienced enough at action shots, nor know enough to recommend another camera.
      Ian replied on

  18. Does the camera have an automatic date stamp for photographs
    Justine asked on
    1. Yes it does.
      Nicholas replied on

    2. Yes you can choose it or not
      Alan replied on

  19. Can you zoom when doing Video?
    Sheila asked on
    1. Yes but it is a bit tricky operating it without causing shake or judder - better to video and avoid using zoom
      Peter replied on

    2. Yes, and it's not so bad.
      Tomasz replied on

    3. Yes only used it once the quality was good
      John replied on

  20. Are you able to shoot photos in black and white or sepia?
    Julie asked on
    1. Yes, it is okay if you use flash in dark...
The quality of pic even is better to be taken in dark than in light...This is my personal opinion....
      JIE replied on

  22. Hi I just wanted to know if this camera is easy to use, has good image quiality and lots of settings, such as picture effects?
    Sam asked on
    1. Yes it is very easy to use, the only down side is the flash is not in the best position but you get use to it, the picture quality is excellent, it has many settings but we mainly use the auto setting, for the price you cant go wrong
      John replied on

  23. can i zoom in real close to an object like a bumble bee or watch ?
    garry asked on
    1. Yes you can, that is why I bought the camera my sister had it and just took some amazing close ups which I couldn't even get close to with my sony, the zoom is amazing. The 14 x digital zoom is very clear if you ar3 usaing the 40 x zoom though you will need to hold the camera extremely still and not breath while taking the photo for a clear picture. I highly recommend it
      Pamela replied on

    2. Yes but should use on tripod.
      Ken replied on

    3. Yes, I agree with all the comments above. It's an excellent camera for close-up shots and they are really clear.
