- Good points:
- I have been waiting to dip my toe in with a DSLR but have been put off by the cost and complexity, I need not have worried this has all the functions of a point and click and add-on’s of an SLR, but not a massive cost, its real fun getting around the functions, I have been taking pictures of flowers to get to grips with it, everyone has said WOW when they have seen them, what more can I say? You like taking good pictures get one, good snapping!

- Not found any so far!

- Good points:
- Particularly useful for taking pictures in low light situations, such as museums where flash is prohibited. The image stabiliser seems to work very well, and some of my pictures in the recent exhibition of Tutankhamun replicas in Manchester bear comparison with professional photos in books.

10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor
A 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor captures enough detail to make A4-size prints, even when cropping your image. Canon’s CMOS sensor technology also ensures crisp, sharp images even in low-light conditions.
Up to 3 frames per second
For dramatic mid-action shots, the EOS 1000D allows continuous shooting of large JPEG images at speeds of up to 3 frames per second, until the memory card is full. With a 2GB card, this lets you shoot up to 514 images without a pause.
7-point wide-area AF
A wide-area Auto Focus system uses 7 separate focusing points to lock onto subjects fast. The central focus point enables focusing even under low-light or low-contrast conditions.
EOS Integrated Cleaning System
Canon’s built-in dust prevention system guards images against the effects of dust in three ways: reducing dust generated inside the camera, shaking dust from the sensor each time the camera is turned on or off, and mapping stubborn dust spots for removal with the provided Digital Photo Professional software.
2.5" LCD with Live View mode
In Live View mode, use the bright 2.5†LCD to frame and take shots from awkward angles. During playback, the LCD provides detailed review of shots, and features a wide viewing angle for easy sharing with friends.
Large viewfinder
A large, bright viewfinder allows framing of subjects even in the brightest conditions.
DIGIC III processing
Canon’s cutting-edge DIGIC III processor – as used in professional EOS models – delivers rapid operation, accurate colour reproduction, fast start-up times, and low power consumption.
SD/SDHC memory card compatible
Shooting to the popular SD/SDHC memory card formats, the EOS 1000D is ideal for those who already own SD-compatible devices.
Total image control
Take control over the look and feel of your images with easy to use Picture Style presets. Contrast, sharpness and saturation can be customized in-camera or with Canon’s comprehensive software suite, supplied with the EOS 1000D.
Compact, ultra-lightweight body
The smallest and lightest Digital EOS model yet, the EOS 1000D weighs just 450g – and is ergonomically designed for comfortable handling.
EF lenses and accessories
The EOS 1000D is compatible with the complete range of EF/EF-S lenses, Speedlite EX flash units and EOS system accessories.

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Canon EOS 1000D with 18-55mm Lens
-
Hello I would like to buy the Canon EOS 1000D with 18-55mm lens and can you help me with choose. I don` know decide between Canon EOS 1000D and Sony alpha a390. Sony look good, price is low but Canon is canon. Help my if you know about this too cameras. Thanx
-
Can't comment about Sony as I have no experience of these cameras. However I am delighted with my Canon so far. Sorry I can't be of more help.
-
Hi Oven,
I would say that this all depends on what kind of picture quality you want. In my opinion, the Canon EOS 1000D is fantastic value for money, even the pictures taken on auto mode were professional looking, and I'm not even very good at taking photos! So I would say that it's definitely worth the extra money for the Canon, especially as the price difference is only around £50; £50 well spent, I would say.
Hope this helps!
-
-
How is the picture quality when it is shooted in-house (low light conditions)?
-
Hi Nitin,
The quality is very good, in that the resolution still remains high, but you have to hold the camera very still to prevent blurring. This can be helped a bit by using flash, though.
Hope this helps! -
very good ive had no problems keep it on auto.
hope it works for you
-
-
How important is image stabilisation, it is £20 more expensive to have IS, do i really need it?
-
Hi David,
I have never used this camera without IS so I cannot compare the two. However, I would say that unless you are planning to use a tripod a lot, IS is an important thing, and is especially valuable if you plan to shoot in low light settings, (I took several photos using my IS lens in low light settings, and experienced a suprisingly low amount of problems) which are notorious for amplifying a shaky hand. So I would say IS is worth the extra £20, but at the end of the day it's down to you and how you plan to use your camera.
Hope this helps! :)
-
-
is it worth the price and supposed to be similar to the 450d, i want to get 1 but want advice if this is the one for me
-
Hi Jason,
I would say that this camera is a fantastic price. This is one of the lowest prices I've seen for a DSLR recently, and the quality of the pictures is simply fantastic. I would also say that it is worth the extra money for IS lens, which helps particularly in low light settings.
With regards to the similarities to the 450D, I have heard that the 1000D is a slightly downgraded version of the 450D, in that it has slightly fewer features, slightly smaller screen, less AF focus points etc. But as a "keen amateur", I can't say I've experienced any problems with any of these things on the 1000D! It all really comes down to how closely you're watching money.
Hope this helps! :)

-
Is Canon EOS 1000D is high definition camera ?
-
It depends what you want from a camera. I find the camera in terms of pixels absolutely fine, easy to use and the included software simple to manipulate. If you want som, ething more professional than look at a higher specification but this is, I believe, the best entry level camera in the range.
-
Yes.
-
yes
-
-
how good is this camera for someone coming into DSLR's as i want one to replace my film SLR but want one that isn't too expensive. Can you help
-
Hi Thomas,
I would say that this is an excellent entry level DSLR, as it is relatively cheap but still provides you with the many features that a good DSLR would, with fantastic picture quality. However, I have never used a film SLR, so I wouldn't be able to comment on any comparisons with regards to that.
Hope this helps! :) -
Hi Thomas, I just got my camera after Xmas, so far I am very pleased with the results and my staff at the museum where I work are far more proficient than I am at photography. they each have far more expensive Canon DSLR's but are impressed with how this entry level compares. Trevor

-
Does this camera have Live view on the screen ?
-
No.
-
no

I am looking for a good camera touse for home use, and i would like one simple enough to point and shoot as i make cakes, i would love a camera that made my pictures clear so people drool on the otherside of the screen when i post them on my website. I am not techy enough to know about shutter speeds etc.. i have a fuji at the moment, and am quite impressed with my dads powershot i have borrowed, but was recommended the canon 1000d would stop me upgrading in a year or so.
thanks in advance.-
the Canon is dead simple to use and for the price excellent value. It has anexcellent macro facility for close ups and auto flash so should be ideal for your cakes. I am not techy and it does me fine. Trevor

I am very interested in purchasing a cannon camera so that I can use our old lenses from our film slr. I would really like to know the differences between the 450D and the 1000D in "real" terms of use. Is the 450 really worth the extra amount of money? - we would be using this for interior shots of property and also for close up pieces of jewellery where detail is important. I haven't used a slr camera for many years so would be basically a beginner again, also our daughter is very interested in using it for art and a hobby. Can anyone help the dilema - many thanks in advance !
-
I own the Canon 1000D and it is a fantastic camera and a perfect step up from a standard point and shoot. In my opinion, the only difference worth noticing between the 450D and the 1000D is the price. Both cameras work very well. All in all I'd suggest the 1000D. You'll save money and get results just as good as the 450D.
-
No real difference unless you want to produce slightly higher quality, features all the same and I don't think it's worth the extra unless you are really serious about photography.
-
-
I have an old canon Film camera Its the SLR EOS 600 which I used alot while at college. I am wanting to update to a digital and was wondering whether the lens from my old camera is compatible with the new models? Its a Caon zoom lens Ef 35-70mm?
-
Sorry I'm not sure about that - try and google the answer. Dave
-
-
i am considering to take photography as a hobby and i just wanted to know are the pictures clear and is it easy to handle thanks and please answer asap
-
Yes and yes - brilliant camera, you will really notice a difference if you are moving up from a compact. Dave

Hi,
I am looking for a new camera for a safari which I am taking in May. I am a novice with cameras and I am worried I might be splashing out! Whats the zoom like?
Thanks
Claire-
Hi Claire. The zoom on the standard 1000 is not enough to enjoy photos on safari (I've been there) But the camera is simple and very good and you can buy a compatible lens for your wildlife photos from Jessops for £99. Don't buy the Canon which will cost you four times that.
-
-
i am 12 and would like to purchase a reasonably priced digital slr for beginners.
is the canon 1000d easy to use?
has it got good features for its price?-
I would rate it, easy to understand and even if you're not 100% clued up on photography, through playing with all the settings then you will easily start to understand aperture and shutter speed etc .... It's very easy to use. Dave
-
-
Do you have to buy the lense separatly? And would this be a good choice for taking pictures of people proffesionally? Im stuck between the sony a390 and this, never had one of these cameras before!
-
You can set the camera in a portrait mode for close ups. The camera is normally supplied with the standard 18-55 lens which is fine for almost everything. If you want an extended lens for longer distances then there are compatible lenses on the market for £99 - you dont have to buy the Canon one.
-
-
hi.. i been wanting to buy a dlsr..but don't know which one..considering buying canon 550d or 1000d..what's the diffirence between the two and which one is best. thanks
-
No really sure. I'm really happy with mine. Probably best pop into Jessops and ask one of their gurus.
-
-
Is it as good as the 300d?
-
Don't know. Never used the 300d but seems to be doing a really good job for me. Not too big. Easy to use and takes great pictures.
-
I've nothing bad to say about this camera. Its been fabulous for me so far
-
-
Hi
Im not clear if this camera has hd video ??
like the other who films in hd video.
thanks
octavio-
No HD Video on this one. I have an I-phone so use that for video and to be honest didn't buy it for the video. Nikkon do a one with HD Vid but the write ups said that the noise of the focus can be heard on the video.
-
try the Sony nex 5
-
-
Hi
Im not clear if this camera has hd video ??
like the other who films in hd video.
thanks
octavio-
This camera does not record video's at all.
For video you should try a 'Sony NEX-5'. Apparently has fabulous HD video capabilities.
-
-
How on earth do i get decent quality shots with this camera ? If i use it handheld the shots are poor to say the least,
-
Set it tO automatic and make sure the AF on the camera and lens are on. Failing that give the retailer a call or get in touch with your local photography club. Good luck.

Hi
Im looking for a camera for my makeup artist portfolio. I will be taking alots of closed up shoots. I want the camera to capture the real, vibrant colours on the face of the models..to show off my talent!!haha
Do you think this is the best camera and model for me? Do u think I need to buy an extra lens to capture better and sharper photos?
Many Thanks.-
Not sure that it's what you need but will probably do the job well. Pay really close attention to the lighting of the subject as this may well make more of a difference than the cost of the camera.
-
I have used the camera for lots of profile shots and its works brilliantly. You may want to invest in a good flash and lighting equipment
-
-
ive never had a Slr and i was wondering how easy it is to use :D
-
Very. Especially when it is set to fully automatic
-
-
I am really into action sports such as Bmxing and things like that so i was wondering if this camera is good for that kind of thing ?:) and also does anyone know the difference from this and the 1100D ? thanks alot :D
-
On sports mode it is excellent. The only real difference unless you are very proficient, is price. This is a powerful package for the money.
-
I'm no expert bu the sports mode gives good results for me, such as the kids down park, on slide and the swings
-
No too sure. Probably best sat the guys in a specialist camera shop but does well on sporty stuff for me.
-
I find it great for sport shots. A nice high shutter speed.
-
-
I'm 16, and I'm just finishing my GCSEs. For a present for my results, I'm hoping to get this camera.
Is it suitable for someone who has never had an SLR before?
Is it easy to understand, and get used to?
Thanks for your help!-
Yes very. It's a good size and when you get more experiences you can add lenses. Better than a Nikon because the AF motor is in the camera and not the lense so there are far more lenses available. Good luck with your exams.
-
Yes - I would recommend, it is excellent to use straight out of the box but also but using the manual settings it really helped me understand shutter speed, ISO, and aperture.
-
As above, simple to use yet quite powerful. Best of luck with your exams.
-
-
i find it a very good camera great pitures but the down side is no live view i take a lot of photos of rock groups on stage and cant tell if im getting the right view sometime i get top half of the body and sometimes the bottom half i cant look through the view finder when hoding above my head what should ido get another camera
-
This has live view
-

-
Check the manual. Live view is possible
-
-
hii i have got question...very confused..wich beter 1000D and 1100D?...
-
I chose the 1000D so I guess its that one for me I read up on it a lot before buying if thats any help
-
I think the 1100D - it is a newer model so will be improved
-

-
Cracking camera for the beginner of the enthusiast. Takes great photos and quite easy to use.
-
-
i want to become a photographer, but im only just starting is this a good camera to start with? Is it easy to use? Also has it got good effects? Because i love to edit thing aswell...please reply asap...
-
I chose this model as I do take a lot of pictures but wanted to be able to ajust the lens as I wanted and this was just what I was looking for you have the option of setting the camera up manually with your own effects or you can use it as a point and shoot (auto focus) Hope this helps
-
-
I have just bought this camera and wondered if there was a way of securing the lens cap so i don't inadvertently lose it? I hoping there is an obvious solution I'vw missed! Thanks
-
suggest you super glue nylon tape to the edge of the cap and then tie it to the strap.
-
-
Hi, I've never had an slr, and I want to buy one next time I travel... so it would have to serve two purposes... nice pictures of my trip (where I'll have no tripod...) and then nice pictures of the food I make when I'm back home... will I have problems with the first one? I'll have about 5 minutes to learn how to use it before I go walking around and taking pictures...
-
Hi, the only problem you may have is the 5 minutes to learn how to use it, the instruction book is thick but has a quick guide, as for your demands on the camera, I can not see a problem..Good snapping
-
5 minutes to learn is a short time and additionally the instruction manual is not always the best thing to be looking at as I don't feel it fully explains photography, maybe a course or a book is better.... but the Green square (fully automatic) would be a good mode to use having had it 5 minutes and would hopefully suit most of your requirements, apart from slow shutter speeds (night time) when a tripod would be essential to stop camera shake/blur.
-
-
Im starting up in photography and I really what to know if 10 megapixels is enough? please help x
-
It's more than enough. Due to the EOS sensor it's able to get a fabulous picture quality. Great camera.
-
-
Will the lens from my Canon eos1000 film camera fit a canon 1000d
-
im not sure , but all canon lens should fit try it and see thats my advice for what its worth.
-
Sorry dont have this information you could try and email Canon direct they will know

Hiya =)
I'd be wanting to use this picture for taking action shots, as i take a lot of pictures for people of their horses moving/jumping ect so was wondering how sharp the picture are of relatively quick moving objects? Also just wanted to check that the camera wasn't a battery one? It does come with a charger doesn't it?-
Comes with a lithiunm Ion battery and charger. Works well for me in sports action shots and a telephoto lens.

Hi, I am thinking about buying this camera but am torn between this one and the Nikon D3100. Obviously there is roughly a £100 price difference (this one being the cheaper of the two) and the Canon has a 10.1 megapixel and the Nikon has 14.2. I am at a loss as to how much of a big difference it will make for my £100 that I will be spending. But worried that if I go for the cheaper option I will be dissapointed. Would this camera be suitable for wedding shots and for my blog/start-up photography business? Once it takes off I'd spend much more on a camera but this first purchase would be to get me started in the world of DSLR's. Any help/opinions appreciated. Thanks!
-
Hi Katie, I cannot comment on your choices but is what I did was a plus and minus on the ones I was looking at and the Canon had more pluses so that’s why I bought it and I don’t regret it I have done lots of different shots with it and all have been very good you can buy additional lenses so in a way its upgradable so it would be future proofing for your business.
-
-
it says in the blurb that it requires windows op system up to but not including windows 7.
anyone running the software on W7?-
I'm running it on W7 and it works fine.
-
Me Too!!
-
-
I am looking to buy this camera and just wondered how good it is at taking continuous pictures, i have a baby who moves around a lot and often miss "the" shot as she moves?
-
Its very good at rapid shoots
-
3 shots p/s
-
On sports mode it will cope fine.
-
-
My daughter is about to start an A Level Photography course at college in September and has been told to get herself a DSLR - would this camera be sufficient for her first year??
-
yes
-
I would say so - I'm pleased with mine
-
Yes its a very good camera, I like it a lot.
-
-
Does this camera work underwater?
-
i haven't tried it but i wouldn't if i was you, you need to buy specialised cameras to do that
-
-
IS THIS A SLR CAMERA THE SLR I WAS OFFERED WERE FAR MORE EXPENSIVE. WHAT DOES SLR DO AND HOW CAN YOU TELL IF IT IS A SLR?
-
This is definately an SLR and probably the best value for money you will get as arelative newcomer
-
Defo SLR, you just need to check on the spec how the image gets to the viewfinder. If the view is through the lens it is SLR. If seperate it is a compact. Very good value for money
-
-
What is the difference between the CANON EOS 1000D and the Nikon D3100 and why ?
-
Hi Dan, sorry I do not know the Nikon in question so I would just have to look up the spec and so would not be giving my view of it.
-
Sorry I havent tried the Nikon either. I would recommend the cannon though, it's really easy to use, and I have taken some great pictures. It's my first SLR, and I expected it to be more complicated.
-
-
Hi, I have read through but just checking. I'm not savvy on tech stuff but need a good camera to take close up shoots of bath bombs so need macro. Plus is it def a point and shoot? Does it has optical zoom? I've never owed one of these before.
Many thanks-
Hi yes it does have point and click but no it has digital zoom or what I think it is you can zoom in on the subject after you have taken the picture this can be done on the camera and on software on a PC I have done some really good close ups of static objects I am now trying moving subjects (rain) trying the different shutter speeds.. Good luck
-
-
is it any good for taking photos at motor racing events
-
yes keep your finger on the button
-
-
hiya, i'm looking at buying the 1000d and i was wondering if a memory card comes with it already or not and if so what's the space on it?? Thanks :) :)
-
you can buy a package deal as an option with a card and travel bag for he camera but i didn't buy one as i already had a 16GB SD ready.
I find that you cannot save any of the photos without an SD, it just says on the camera screen 'No Card' so i would advise buying one haha -
There is no space on it and you do need to buy a memory card, I bought an 8GB one with the memory card and it was only about £1
-
-
In total how many x zoom does the camera have?
-
Canon 18-55 mm EF-S Zoom Lens, equivalent to a 29-88mm lens in 35mm film format.
This gives 3x optical zoom.
-
-
Hi
has anyone used this model for landsacape pictures and if so how does the colour come out and how big can you blow this up without loss of quality.-
Have not used it for landscapes but the magnification is very very good
-
-
Does it have a self timer
-
yes, it has 2 seconds, 10 seconds and one when you can choose time
-
Yes but have not used it
-
-
i was wondering if anyone could help me this is my first camera its for my gcse art . do you think this will be idel? . is it a chargeable camera or battey powed? x
-
Yes absolutely ideal. Very good first camera. Very versatile and forgiving in the hands of a newbie, but still with loads of options as you become more confident.
It is battery, but rechargeable and the charger come with the camera so no worries.
-
-
hi, does the camera have a series of red lights when you take the photo to help the focus? thanks, andy.
-
Yes it does
-
yes it has 7 focal points, you can set one or use all to locate the best focal point
-
-
What is the zoom like on the canon EOS 1000D? is it like 18x opt?
-
Depends what lens you use. If you mean the kit lens, its equivalent to the human eye.
-
-
Joined a camera club...and enjoying it..I wish to buy a zoom lens or telescopic lens. for odd shots but on a budget..any recomemdation would be welcome
-
Canon is good as there are loads of older lenses about that fit. I would look at e-bay in the first instance. As for size as you are in a club, ask the members what their preference is for different types of shots and decide where you would get most use out of it.
-
-
Hi im looking for my first digital and I need a camera that has a manual shutter speed option. Does this camera have one.
Thankyou for your time-
Yes it does this in my 1st DSLR and I am not disappointed I have just bought an upgraded lens and made it even better
-
-
what battery type is it? also i noticed its a low mp only 10megalpixels is the image quality stil good?

This is a new type of battery which is amazing how long it lasts on charge. The previous Canon I had on my old EOS lasted a matter of days. this one is lasting weeks, despite being used more often. The image quality is very good - I use my photos to print newsletters and brochures - highly recommend this. Hope this helps.
-
The image quality is as good as when the battery is fully charged as when low, hope that you have as much fun as I have had with the camera
all the best A B

I want to buy a camera for my mom but she doesn't know English at all. I am writing for asking how many language it has and whether this camera can transfer to Chinese. And this is unavailable for homediliver but it is not instock in every currys store in canterbury where i live in. So how can i buy it if i want to get it?
-
there are 2o languages on the camera, you can change the language to chinese i think, the only reason i cannot confirm it is because on the language settings each language is written in that language and i don't speak chinese, but there are two that look like chinese and I'm guessing one is mandarin and one is cantonese.. and you should just try all digital product shops, currys, comet, jessops.. try google shopping when you type in the camera model
-
Try Jessops online which is where I bought mine. They stock the camera and deals which include it as a package. The camera manu is multi-lingual but I don't know if it includes Chinese or it's dialects.

Can i change to a bigger lense in the future, and what type of flash will i require?
-
Yes you can change the lenses to suit your needs.
Camera has a built in flash but you can buy bigger and better flashes, flashes that tilt so you can bounce light etc..... this all depends on your personal needs.

just wondering how good the effects are ? what is there? black and white pop art? Also how is the camera with pictures of people?
-
Hi it is very good with portraits and it has a very good back fill light so you can take portraits in low light situations without getting lots of glare Dont know about a pop art function.
