Mobile Phone Buyers Guide

Manufacturer's Description

While everyone else was busy trying to keep up with iPhone, we were busy creating amazing new features that make iPhone more powerful, easier to use, and more indispensable than ever. The result is iPhone 4. The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone.

Apple engineers designed the A4 chip to be a remarkably powerful yet remarkably power-efficient mobile processor. With it, iPhone 4 can easily perform complex jobs such as multitasking, editing video and making FaceTime calls. All while maximising battery life.

The iPhone 4 camera shoots gorgeous 5-megapixel photos and stunning HD video. And with its advanced backside illumination sensor, it captures beautiful images even in low-light settings. The built-in LED flash does double duty. When you’re taking pictures, it works as a flash. When you’re shooting video, it can stay on to light up the scene. And on the front of iPhone 4, the built-in camera is perfect for making FaceTime calls and shooting self-portraits.

With its large Multi-Touch display and innovative software, iPhone lets you control everything using just your fingers. How does it work? A panel laminated on the glass senses your touch using electrical fields. It can register multiple touches at once to support advanced gestures such as pinch to zoom, two-finger tap and more. The panel then transmits the information to the Retina display below it.

Contract

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Apple iPhone 4 (32GB)

  1. can you get a tesco sim to fit iphone4?
    Eddie asked on
    1. Hello, Standard sims wont fit as the iphone uses a small format sim
      Keith replied on

  2. Obviously the more you use it the more it costs but what is the advantage of having PAYG over a monthly contract?
    John asked on
    1. The advantage of PAYG over contract is that you can manage the spending on the phone as you top up with as much credit as you consider you will spend whereas on a contract you are paying out monthly a fixed minimum amount which could increase if you go over your minutes/data/text allowance(s). If you are planning on using the phone for just calls and texts rather than data/email then PAYG will be fine but if you are going to use the phone for email and internet surfing or directions then it can become costly using up your credit more quickly on PAYG.

  3. IS THIS PHONE UNLOCKED
    BIG asked on
    1. No aim locked to t-mobile
      D replied on

  4. I have an 02 sim contract for another 8 months. Will I be able to swap to an 02 micro sim and use in this iphone even though it is on Tesco mobile at the moment?
    Jonathan asked on
    1. Im sorry i wouldnt know. Im sure if you speak to the service provider they will be able to tell you.
It would also depend on whether the phone is network locked and whether you are willing to jailbreak it to get around this issue.
      Regards
      Keith replied on

  5. is this phone locked into to Tesco network system?
    Debz asked on
    1. It is locked to wherever you buy it from
      Colin replied on

  6. If I have a T-mobile sim can I use it in Africa.
    Christine asked on
    1. You would need to check with T-Mobile about if they can set the phone to work in Africa, a quick google suggests that it might not work as a normal phone (I found an article suggesting that the GSM phone network is not available) and if you need to make calls then download skype and connect at a wifi point and call using skype (skype does allow calls to any number not just other skype users).
      Mark replied on

  7. Can i just buy the phone and use it on Gif Gaff pay as you go network as for £ 10/- you get 250 minutes , unlimited text and web and 30 days contract
    Uday asked on
    1. DO NOT KNOW
      EDWARD replied on

    2. You can buy the handset on its own direct from Apple and then use any micro Sim Card in it that is compatible. If you check with Gif Gaff about compatibility of the sim card and the IPhone and they it is compatible then this is your best route unless you look at buying the IPhone from another retail outlet or a 2nd hand one from someone on EBay.
      Mark replied on

  8. Does This Phone Come With The Sim?
    Paige asked on
    1. Depends if you take out a contract or if not your network provider can surely provide you a sim
      D replied on

    2. My phone came with a micro SIM
      Luke replied on

  9. If I purchase - can I keep my mob no.?
I read somewhere that sim cards could be 'cut down' to
fit the 'micro sim format' ?
Is this so a mob no is retained?
Has anyone here done it ?
    Alan asked on
    1. Yes you can keep your existing mobile number, just ask your service provider, they will do the rest.
NO, you can't cut down a Sim Card in order to make a "Micro Sim".
I have never heard of anyone trying this, as I'm sure it will not work.
      Philip replied on

  10. i wanna buy iPhone4 32GB but what refrain me to do so is that iPhone5 or 4s what ever is said that its release may be on late sept 2001, is that true and what you advise me.
    thanks
    ahmed asked on
    1. It is sure if there will be a iPhone five on the near future or not. It is reported that Apple may introduce a scaled down version of the iPhone in order to compete with the cheaper phones on the Market. If Apple do introduce iPhone 5, there is not much more that they can include that will make the phone any better.
      Philip replied on

  11. Is the iPhone unlocked if you buy it from apple?
    Thank you! :)
    Charlotte asked on
    1. Hi Charlotte... As I bought my iPhone 4 32Gb from T-Mobile, rather than directly from Apple, I can't accurately answer your question. However, I would imagine if you buy from Apple directly, the iphone should be unlocked, whereas if you buy, as I did, on a contract with a Network Provider, such as T-Mobile or Vodafone, etc, the phone will most probably be locked to that provider.

Sorry I can't be more helpful Charlotte... Check with Apple before you you buy!!

Finally... I have bought several smart phones recently, Android/Apple/Symbian operating systems and would recommend both the iPhone 4/4s and the HTC Sensation... which has matched, if not, surpassed, the Apple iPhone 4... Both are fabulous, design artwork, powerful, solid and a joy to use - The choice is yours!!

  12. does mthis phone have apps for educating children i was looking for a phone yesterday and came across one but i cant remember if it was this one
    natasha asked on
    1. To be honest, I don't know, as my children are all grown up!
      Luke replied on

    2. There are several apps you can download for this phone, some are free and others are chargeable and there are some for educating children. If you go to the following website you can see a list of education apps for the Iphone and find out details about them:
      http://itunes.apple.com/gb/genre/ios-education/id6017?mt=8
      Mark replied on

  13. I currently have a normal tesco mobile sim that has my mobile number, some important text messages and contacts. Is there a way I can transfer them to a micro sim?
    James asked on
    1. If you go to customer service they will do it for you or show you how it can be done. I had no problem when I changed to a "Micro Sim"
      Philip replied on

    2. I'm useless with technology but as far as I can remember, I didn't have a problem transferring contacts etc to the micro sim - the instructions and equipment came with the i phone
      sharon replied on

  14. If you are on 'pay as you go' can you still have the new messenger that they have brought out? :)
    Sophie asked on
    1. Im sorry i couldnt tell you thats something youd have to sort with your network. Im not a pay as you go customer so cant help.

      Keith replied on

  15. If i watched a football match on Sky sports through the SkyGo app (as i'm a sky customer) would i be charged to watch it through my Data allowance or would could i get it free through wifi (bt openzone) or 3g ?
    Phil asked on
    1. I also use the SkyGo app. Using 3g to to stream the football match i wouldn't recommend, it's not that quick, but if you do find a btopenzone area, then WiFi works a treat, and it doesn't affect the Data allowance for my contract, but if your in doubt, just ask in store when proceeding with contracting and theywill re assure you :).x
      Ant replied on

  16. Is the voice recognition that easy to use and do owners really use it?
    Camilla asked on
    1. You are thinking about the new S version iPhone 4, sorry can't help with this Q.
      Robin replied on

  17. in my contract, it says that "internet" is included. Does this mean I will be able to roam the internet wherever and whenever? or will my contract price go up every time I use the internet?
    Connor asked on
    1. I'm with Orange so the price I pay every month includes a set amount of internet usage to be used as and when so the price doesn't change unless you use more than's stated in your contract
      sharon replied on

  18. I have an orange contract & sim, can I use the same sim for my iphone 4 I have just purchased from a friend or do I need to contact Orange for a new sim card?
    Sally asked on
    1. Yes you can use the same sim card as long as the phone is on Orange, if not you will have to get the phone unlocked by the carrier.
The iPhone 4 uses a mini sum card so if the sim card is regular sized you can ask the apple store to cut it for you or buy a cheap sim card cutter online.
      I hope this helps you.
